  • is the first funy thing on jap version only?

  • How did you get this much powerful? Please reply

  • And the original language (techniques and everything)? Is it Japanese?

  • my bad the is called hay-maker of god

  • haymaker of god aint shit wen you fight gene on die in the training thing if you win you get 99999 or sumthin i came close drunken fist spam then he killed me lol but im tryin

  • Haymaker of God (I think that's the name) is insanely strong and fast... I love that move... XD

  • the punch that his using is invisible fist if u charge it all the way it deals 100 damage

  • man i wanna buy this game now its really epic!!

but it reminds alot of dragonballz for some reason lol

  • hey! what kind of punch technique is that?

  • What does that Pan Drop move do? I never really seen it before, and I can't see what effects it has.

  • I makes the opening frames of the following attack invincible.

  • It damages you slightly in exchange for a very short period of invincibility. However, it's available only in the Japanese version of the game.

  • Sometimes in the background music it sounds like the Hawaii 5-0 theme song... Except slowed down to sound western, it's pretty awesome in my opinion. Awesome game, not only is it manly, it looks to be great fun.

  • What are your setting for the combo.... Looks powerful enough to break their guard

  • It's exactly the same as the initial setup apart from the God Knuckle 2 and Taicho Punch (Yes Kablam or something in English) equipped.

Guard Break is the same back + [] as standard, mixing it into your combo manually gets them every time.

  • Thanks man 4 the tips.

  • what the ??!! how on earth u play like that man ... so damn fast even i cant do like u did , gotta hand it to u man UR GOOD xD

  • if this was on Online saur would pwn us all. trust me.

  • I was like wth in the start... A pan from the sky!

Forgot japanese version had Pan Drop.

  • Awesome tactics, and it's a pity they took the Pan Drop out of the non-Japanese versions. Looks hilarious but useful as well. It doesn't use up a Roulette token?

Oh, and at 9:53 are you really sway cancelling the Charged Uppercuts? That's so awesome!

  • Thank you for your kind comment, I hoped people would be interested in the mechanics despite my messy play!

I'm cancelling the back +/\ button uppercut with the forward evade. The enemy will fly a little higher each time so you can eventually use the Dragon Punch.

  • I thought that's what you were doing! You must have impeccable timing to pull that off. I can do about 3 or 4 HSK spams in a row using that technique, but not consistently. But with the Uppercuts as well? Wow!

The mechanics of the game stand out regardless. I love the fact it is so fully customisable. I've spent too long in the Training Arena just trying out different attack strings and combos, hahaha!

  • Oh my god this is beautiful

  • nice playing Dude

  • Hello! Working on my 2nd loop through the game this time, it's been a year since I last played, and my thumbs are aching again, Thought i'd ask a pro like yourself a question: What's the name of that ryu-style jumping uppercut? Also, whats your opinion on extending the combo tree, i've heard its bad because it slows you down, but I'm curious as to how the tradeoff affects comboing. any help is appreciated!

  • No idea what the jumping uppercut is called, I just refer to it as the "Dragon Punch" (back+Triangle when enemy is launched high). Extending the combo tree is fine as the vast majority of moves can be stopped instantly with forward evade, you aren't forced to complete the whole chain. The opening 3 or 4 strikes I usually make sure are very direct (so that I can neatly cancel and repeat with evade), but the remaining strikes can be anything you like - even a launcher into air-juggle setup.

  • I concur with Saur, although I have something to add. Extending the chain postpones the delay required for your combo to reset and lets you spend less time on your opening jab instead of your more powerful moves. However, it also means that your combo finisher will hit less often during an unleash.

My advice: extend the chain only if you can fill it with strong or dizzying moves (not a problem during a 2nd-loop game). I fill mine with multi-hit moves that hit hard and dizzy enemies quickly.

  • According to the instruction manual it's called 'Laughing Dragon Punch'.

  • Is this from the Japanese manual or the English version? My kanji is not up to the level where I can understand many of the names (especially the Kung-Fu techniques).

  • The English manual.

  • Oh so THAT'S the function of that Pan Drop.I thought It was useless or for only(more) comic relief hahaha! Thank you so much! I have the japanese version too and even though I don't understand all the menu options I still manage to play with almost no problems. This is a really fun game.

  • Yeah it's a nice little risk/reward trick, you sacrifice a small amount of your life bar for a high-priority attack.

  • Nice, but you have the KMS. Doesn't that Pan Drop move take it away since it's a roulette move?

  • I think SU*KA was meant to be a joke roulette. Perhaps Saur can clear it up...

  • Yes definetly - it also has a tactical use however. The opening frames of the attack you perform straight afterwards will be invincible.

  • Yeah. All I was figuring was that since it was intended as a joke roulette it wouldn't affect your KMS run.

...Wow, that would make a KMS run a whole lot easier.

  • I cannot express how awesome this game is...It's a timeless classic, and I'm hoping that Platinum Games will continue the trend.

  • Boy, you like juggling, huh? Dragon Kick for the win.

    | No extra comments

  • Juggling can be ridiculously useful. If you're surrounded by enemies, juggle one and launch him/her into the others with the mid-air kick. Or better yet, unleash the God Hand, juggle one, and keep juggling with the Ryu-style dragon punch. The others will try to attack you, but since you're invincible, they'll all just get caught in the juggle, too!

  • How'd you unlock

    that mode? o.o

  • If you beat the game once, you can load the clear game, you start with nothing. However, everything (Plus God moves and a new roulette) are available in the shop. Also, stuff you pick up gives you double money.

  • I know but sadly,

    I didn't see the

    that move on that

    rulet move at the shop-

I've beat the game atleast 4 times..

  • The Pan drop move? You need the Japan version.

  • this game is sooo kick butt! lol....it reminds me of the game no more heroes though...

  • A bit overkill on the fatty at 8:50..

  • hey dude where u get that thing that fels on ur head and gives u godhand boost??

  • It's only in the Japan version.

  • woot i defedet elvis at demon form and im soon fighting shannon at demon form.

  • ok thx

  • whats the name the name of that "launch" kick

  • The one one against the bosses? That one's called "Dragon Kick" on this version.

  • Whered you get that HUGE FRYING PAN FALLING ON HIS HEAD?

  • It's a standard move in this version, it's use to make the first few frames of your next attack invincible - if timed correctly.

  • So you got it when you first started the game?

    Hm.

  • Wait a minute.. Is that Grovel? How do you get the frying pan in your head? What button?

    It looks liek Grovel

  • It's not assigned to a button. It's a God Reel Ability called SU*KA.

  • SU*KA? I never heard about it... When and how did you get it?

  • Like I said before it's a standard ability which you start the game off with. This is not the edited overseas version I'm playing, this is the original Japanese version.

SU*KA only becomes very useful once you get powerful moves such as God Knuckle; you sacrifice a little bit of health to make the opening frames of the attack safe.

  • Hm.. So what you're saying is.. It's not in the European / US versions?

  • Yes - that is correct.

  • Too bad :S

  • not at all. The frying pan move damages gene and temporarily makes him invincible. it was put into the japanese version of the game because the japanese censors did not want a move that is in my opinion, WORLDS better. The head slicer.

a move that in the UK and US versions, will, if it is to kill the enemy, cuts off their heads.

  • That's not true. The "Head Slicer" was added afterwards for the overseas version. It's completely at odds with the game's slapstick humour, there's no strategy or risk/reward element applied and is nothing more than a recycled chop animation. The SU*KA technique was removed from the US localisation due to it being Japanese humour.

  • i read the censor bit on some gaming site *shrugs*

  • It's called the Dragon Kick in the other versions as well.

Also, if there's no head slicer in the Japanese version, is the credits song changed? It mentions the use of the head slicer.

  • Well, sorta. At that part of the song, the singer cries out, "HURRICANE CHOP!". I suppose it had to fit with the ending video.

  • Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up for me, I was curious.

  • why does that thing always fall on his head ?HAHA

  • My lifes bar is Very little how at begin the game

  • how do you incremnt lifes bar????

    I'dont know??

  • Interesting

  • I just feel sad now.

  • Wow. What was your square button combo setup?

  • Oops - sorry, I didn't see this message. The [SQUARE] button combo has been left as standard with the jab/hook/straight that you start the game with.

  • whos throwing those panes

  • that a God reel move Pan Drop makes the player invurnarable for couple of seconds w/c was removed in the us ver.

  • And also the only god reel that doesn't remove the Kick me sign.

  • does someone know where i can find the Japanese version?

  • ebay or online stores. i think you will need a regon free ps2 to play it though.

  • You're right - I think the Japanese version is out of print so it'll most likely be easier to find one on eBay.

  • this game is the shit i cant wait till they make the second one its gonna be even more badass

  • You don't know how much you just hurt me on the inside.

  • It's great that many people expect a sequel, it simply is never going to happen though. Best we can hope for is for the system to be carried over and modified for future titles.

  • LOL Car fight like in Street Fighter on SNES , ROFL.

  • Dude puts a whole new meaning on the word "overkill" O.o

  • hey its me again... i have to ask how do you do that super smacking thing

  • car=street fighter rip off =P

  • lol This is a Capcom game after all.

  • whoa.

you much better at this game than I xD

  • It's not a frying pan. It's a shallow wash tub. In Japan it's used as a gag and I guess in America, they don't see it funny so they took it out. It would have been better if they kept it.

  • Haymaker of God- The single most badass move in the entire game.

  • how do i get it????

  • It's been a while since I played it. I believe there's 2 ways to get it. You can get a ticket from the slot machine and try to get it from one of the chests or play through a second time. It is expensive on the second time around thought. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • im playing it for the third time and i didnt see it anywhere :-(

  • The slightly drawn out battle between you and the second fat guy just before the bosses was just awesome, even if only for the hit that got through and finally knocked him off balance, and the pure ass-kicking that followed :)

  • its a shame they took the pan move out of the north american version. but i guess thats the price for decapitation

  • what the hell's the point in doing that damn frying pan move?

  • It's used to add invincibility frames to the beginning of slow and powerful moves. It's commonly used in super runs, it uses no roulette orbs, and it's useful as hell.

  • It makes them laugh and vulnerable.

  • whats witht he frying pan xD

  • ive been thinking about getting this game, but i heard the controls and some other stuff ruined it, can anyone who has this game recomend it

  • I know you don't want to hear from me - but seriously there is absolutely nothing wrong with any part of this game's system. Reviewers who go on about controls "ruining" the game just haven't bothered to learn how to use them - it becomes second nature and offers you so much freedom that going back to play something else feels stunted and restrictive.

  • i posted my question on a few other pages and within a half-hour i got 5 replys!, every one of them overwhelmengly praising it,Guess im goin to gamestop to pick it up now lol, thanx

  • This is what's great about youTube - gamers can show fellow gamers exactly why we're enjoying something.

  • ok, while im waiting on my ride to gamestop to show up, does anyone have any other recomendations for other games like this(action, fighting, skill based) im a huge fan of dmc1 dmc3 and The Boucer(games that actually require skill).

  • Apart from Viewtiful Joe (vids on my channel) I can't think of anything else which can compare to this style of play. Bujingai has a really nice system for control but the game's level and enemy design are a complete mismatch to what you can unleash.

  • Finally i get to see the jap special where he gets a frying pan in the head. Nice! Probably just a small detail, but his name is Gene in the usa.. could it be a typo from your part? maybe more people can find it. Thanks for posting

  • You're right - I should change it, thanks for pointing it out ^^

  • I noticed you already knew... oops! well i guess mine was a reminder or something. ^^

  • I hadn't played the US version so was unsure of the correct spelling, I interpreted the Japanese katakana spelling as (Jeen - phonetically) so I spelt it "Jean".

Regardless - he pwns and you all pwn for knowing he pwns, aswell as the people around you pwning for knowing you pwn for knowing he pwns! XD

  • Oh... thats a lot of pwnage. No shame whatever the name he pwns us the same. Did capcom get lame? Who cares, godhand got made by clover and is will always be the one and the only, the game.

  • We'll have Devil May Cry 4 upon us soon, I can't wait to play that - I'm like a crackhead when it comes to Devil May Cry. Expect a lot of obsessive videos from me when it finally hits!

  • Ok ok you got me... ill subscribe, and don't thank me, thank jean\gene. LOL... well thanks to you in fact.

  • If you're a fan of fighting games, give Guilty Gear X2: Accent Core a try. It's not 3D, but it's incredibly fast and has a pretty high bar when it comes to skill.

For 3D, give Ninja Gaiden (XBox) and Shinobi (PS2) a try if you can find 'em. Ninja Gaiden is pretty similar to DMC1 if a bit less combo based. Shinobi is pretty different in that it relies on killing lots of enemies in a row to power yourself up for one slash, usually against a boss, as opposed to combos.

  • I used to have it - it's not the sort of thing I enjoy playing.

  • Dude, Urban Reign has NOTHING on God Hand. God Hand can probably cure more than one type of cancer. It's just that awesome.

  • I remember that after keeping God Hand in my PS2 for 2 weeks and playing it a total of 45 hours, I tried to play Soul Calibur III... my gaming instinct was all God Hand so I was trying to use the right analog stick to dodge! XD

  • well it jean might be the original intention, and it gene could just be american. but gambling, drinking, spanking, a pimp slap for an attack, fighting gorrilas...this game has manly written all over it!

  • i thought his name was gene? ah whatever. its still the manliest game ever. i give it a manly/10

  • LOL - I have to agree with you there!

He's a buffet of Manliness! XD

Regarding his name, I hadn't played the US version at the time I was playing this, I interpreted the Katakana as "Jean" when it's actually "Gene".

  • only version in japan?

  • This game can be bitch hard, but fun as hell. I know from experience, cause I have it.

  • WOW you've got it!! O_O - How did you manage that??! :O

  • I pre-ordered it a month before it came out. Don't you have it?

  • No I haven't - it's all a bit complicated for me. I'd love to play it one day though.

  • You should try and buy it online, is much easier, besides this game is rare to find in stores, luckily I have it! Good Luck!

  • I'm only playing with you man! XD - This is the Japanese version which I bought on release.

  • Nice! Oh then good for you!

  • I think the head slicer was the original move that was supposed to be in the game. Japanese versions of games almost always censor decapitations of human(oid) characters, Ninja Gaiden being a good example.

  • Can anyone tell me aprx. how long this game takes, for rookies and for experts?

  • i got the game about a day or two ago and i beat it my first time through in about ten hours

  • on easy its not much of a challange but normal and especialy hard difficulties can take a while to get used to

  • What's the point of dropping that thing on your head?

  • It gives added priority to the following attack.

  • THIS GAME IS THE BEST...

  • Yeah, plus the thing I hate so much is that when those games which were originally sold in Japan ALWAYS have some "disgustingly-crappy" dubbed English voices when they are sold in other countries, rather than maintaining the same Japanese voices but with English subtitles. (e.g. Final Fantasy VII Advent Children)

Well, games such as DMC and Godhand are different though, because they already have English voices and fit so perfectly!

  • This is my biggest hate! I love stuff like Viewtiful Joe and God hand as they were designed with an American influence in mind and the voices are selected to suit. However when they dub over anime and RPGs with American it really makes me angry.

  • I do collect some manga - but reading is still very difficult. Brave Story - especially the new Brave Story Shinsetsu is my favourite right now, I saw the art on a big display in Shibuya and loved it straight away!

It was funny when I first saw Gene's "Onegaishimasu" at the start of Capcom's God Hand trailer - it's as if they're saying "PLEASE buy our game!!!" XD

  • Oh yeah, I've seen that big display as well! I haven't read much of it but it looks interesting(^_^)

Sadly there aren't many good mangas nowadays, getting a little ordinary, or being some kind of imitation of some other mangas in earlier age:(

I watched the trailer too, and you are right, it looks as if they want to say [I BEG YOU! Please! PLEASE BUY THIS GAME!!] LOL!

  • But unfortunately, with this game, they didn't achieve a fame which they really should.

I see many people giving s**t about this game just because they cant make a progress due to its set difficulty.

But it's most likely because either they suck or aren't patient enough to keep trying & put enough effort into it.

I admit the difficulty is set very high, even on easy mode, but once we get through all those hardship, it gives so much more satisfaction!

  • Gamers these days feel insulted when they actually have to learn skills to become good at a game, they just want to sit there and win with zero effort. I find this attitude very tiring and I dont have time for it, this is why I use youTube instead of forums because I dont like talking to those types of people. We can share what we've found easily and "omoshiroi" people like yourself will come and watch.

  • I totally agree with you!

Not many gamers seem to be willing to put a reasonable effort into games recently, especially when it comes to games that are of this kind, and say [Oh I don't like this game because it's difficult].

And I discovered that those from Europian background have tendencies to be in that way especially, because only games they mostly play are some kind of crappy racing games. Except some people who have genuine interest in this kind of Japanese games, just like you(^_^)

  • And as for forums, forums are likely to be "messed" badly because those people tend to keep on "spamming" complaints etc, trying to justify their point of views.

On the other hand, Youtube isnt necessarily like this, but so much more fun to share your findings etc because there are more open-minded people here:P We can get to know new people too!

  • I have to say that you've done an amazing job with this video. Not only only that, but you've been able to show many gamers and fans such as myself what can truely be achieved from the game.

I'm curious to know why through this demonstration why you use the frying pan from you God roulette most of the time untl the final bout. I'm interested as this selction was removed from the US and Uk versions.

Great video, keep up the amazing work.

  • The frying pan I find absolutely vital when things get very busy. It adds invincible frames to the opening animation of the following attack - see the way I'm using God Knuckle afterwards each time? Truth is because I'm using the pan first I'm in no danger of getting hit, this allows me to blast enemies away and stop them ganging up. I guess they removed it from the US version as the localisers only saw it as "quirky" Japanese humour and didnt bother to find out what it actually does.

  • I'm really happy to see someone who's playing God-Hand Japanese version(^_^)

At first I was wondering why you're using 'Suka'(miss) for so many times, but now I know why!

And now I'm using so often and thanks to you guys, it has become so much easier to make a progress!

    Japanese Humor Rocks!!!! LOL

By the way, do you speak Japanese as a second language or something? Or did you figure out what they are by just playing it??

  • Glad you're enjoying it ^^

I've been studying Japanese for years, I dont go to formal classes or anything - it's just self-study in my own time as a hobby. I really wanted to get out of this shithole country and live in Tokyo a while back but everything screwed up - I still study though.

  • Really??

It's very nice to hear you've been studying it all by yourself(^_^)

There must have been so much effort involved!

I'm Japanese btw, but I know how difficult it would have been, because I've been studying English for 5 years now(i.e. studying abroad as an oversea student), but my English isnt very good yet:P

And though I'm from Japan, I cant play DMC or Godhand like those Godlike players out there either:P

  • I think it's because I enjoy the Japanese language and society so much, I find learning new kanji characters especially a lot of fun. I realise how crazy and messed up English is aswell in the process, I can't imagine how difficult it must be to get used to the way our spelling and grammar work. Your English is very good DDSamurai - you write and spell better than most English people I see online! ;)

  • Oh, glad to hear that(^_^)

Because what often happens is that very majority of people hate learning Kanji characters, or perhaps start hating Japanese itself just because of those! (though they are derived from Chinese Characters:/)

And you'll be one of the few people who are enthusiastic in learning them, out of all people I've seen so far!

Pretty rare, but stick with it, because this enthusiasm is the key to get to higher level than staying ordinary!(^_^)

  • Stupid character limit(>_<)

I still need a lot more to work on with my English because sometimes not-so-well-known grammar rules interrupt my progress.

But I've been enjoying learning English especially speaking, and thanks to that enthusiasm, I'm getting to be reasonably good at it & started being able to communicate with others more properly(^_^)

"As I get better at it, the world feels broader" if you know what I mean:P

So my case is pretty much the same as yours(>_^)

  • "As I get better at it, the world feels broader" - definetly!

I wish I could have started when I was younger, at school the only language class offered was German which I have no interest in. I do feel I'm getting too old to change my life now - I feel like I was born in the wrong society, have missed out on too much and wasted my time! :D

  • Nah, wouldnt be too late! At least you can understand Japanese better than others:P

And I see [My right hand is GodHand] written in Japanese on your profile too! And that you play GodHand Japanese Version! Not many people would choose to do that even though they understand some Japanese:D

So keep up with it, and eventually you'll get there(>_^)

"I feel like I was born in the wrong society"

    - Well, with your capability, you can pretend to be Japanese:P

  • "- Well, with your capability, you can pretend to be Japanese:P" -

LOL - I can be like Bobobo, but with dreadlocks! XD

    Thanks a lot - I'll keep studying ^^

  • Hahaha, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo huh? LOL

That manga is classic! I love it!*grabs an orange*

Yeah see? You know about those mangas too, I bet you can read them in Japanese and understand what's happening too!

Oh by the way, since you've been learning Japanese, I believe you instantly understood the meaning of 'Onegaishimasu' which Gene says when you use God Dogeza (i.e. Grovel). Another Japanese Humor, eh?:P

  • I feel the same way about your love of Japan and am studying the way you do.

    Dozo oneegaisimasu!

Kore Nippon DS Asobi ni Games Benkyo suru!

Try these DS games out if you have the means!

Zaiden Houjin Nippon Kanji Nour yoko Kentai Kyoukai kounin AND also try

200 Manin no Kanken (200 essential (kanji) characters)

    They're Kanji helpers. ENJOY!

  • beating up a car?

  • street fighter 2 noslagia their XD

  • This is a 2nd loop of the game. All moves are available in the shop you access between stages. I've only equipped God Knuckle as an extra and the most powerful "normal" versions of the standard setup.

If you keep betting on Lucky Clover in the dog races and do the Arena Battles you can have Gene fully kitted out with some nasty stuff after clearing the initial area.

  • I don't understand this video... in the NA version, on your second run through of the game, you don't get to keep all your moves. :/ Or am I only seeing the few moves you bought already, and the rest are the standard ones?

  • A cool video. I'm still in the middle of my first playthrough, so I haven't yet unlocked a lot of the moves you're using... Although all the cancelling has inspired me to practice more!

    Bravo!

  • Another form of queerbashin'... Awright!

Serious, though, it's a great game and a shame it hadn't received the praise it deserved.

The way Jean (or is it Gene?) pulls out those flashy combos almost makes it look easy...

  • You are a great fighter! Your selling this game did you know that? Your level of gameplay adds to the fun.

  • Thank you very much for that - it's made my day! Far too many games arent give a chance these days, purely due to it daring to damaging the fragile egos of the reviewers. It's all about what YOU bring to the table with stuff like this - and I feel gamers in general can bring FAR more to the table than the reviewers.

  • ZOMG! I want this game soo badly but I cant find it anywhere. Anyone got an idea where i can pick it up?

  • ROFLMAO

I need to get this game ASAP

  • Nice upload!! This one of my fav games. Very technical. You're pretty good man, interesting technique.

  • They replaced it with the Head Slice roulette attack apparently

  • You're fast, wow. Too bad they removed the pan hit from the english version. :(

I'll have to get the japanese one someday.

  • The "pan on the head thing" is that in the english version whatsoever?

  • No it's not - they stupidly removed it from the English versions! It's a really useful move in that it adds invincible frames to the next attack. So what I'm doing here is blasting enemies away with the God Knuckle after the pan hit - even though the move is slow; Jean cannot be touched!

  • How do you get Jean all powered-up like that? You have to hit Govel everytime or something?

  • It's a little replay reward thing; you have to beat the game first. The moves are very expensive, but they allow you to whoop mass amounts of ass in a very short amount of time. ^_^

All Grovel does is reset the level back to Level 1. :/

  • Thanks for the tip. Next time I play through it I'll keep that in mind.

  • the cliveins in this game remind me of thouse guys with long hair from metal slug that you have to save

aww man I can't post an gif of them :(

  • ^civilian

    >_<

  • LOL - I know the ones you mean ^^

  • I aint bored - it's wicked fun! -

Going through Hard Mode currently with a standard Jean - That's really tough going but I'm proper tearing my way through. I cant wait to finish Hard Mode so I can have this setup on the 2nd Hard runthrough, then it's PWNED! XD
