i may be wrong but i dont think this is the actual "live at leeds" concert, keiths drum kit is far to small for some of the stuff that you hear on the actual record, for instance "Young man Blues" listen to him at the end he seems to hit a lot of small "roto toms"(think thats what they call them) i cant see any on this video, but as i say i might be wrong.
Keith is mesmerizing! How the hell did he do all that weird shit? Was it because of or despite of all the chemicals that were probably flowing through him? Regardless, I miss him -_-,
what i love about this it shows how the recording never really did a great job at capturing moon that night ( as usual ). you put the visual of keith with the record, it makes it really come together to show what a monster of an artist and musician he really was.
@beelzabubba i'm sure he did but its been lost or not even preserved at the time?!??Amazes me that the guys in the who were not more vigilant in documenting their greatness on stage. they knew their magic was on stage when it was the 4 of them and they new they never could capture that in the studio, even at the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Keith Moon has the best triplets off the bass drums and floor toms of anybody of all time - Listen to Bargain studio version, and Summertime Blues Leeds - When is this whole DVD gonna be released by the WhoCom ????? We need this whole video !
This is a dream come true! The album that defines not only rock and roll, but the Who as well finally breathes before our eyes!!! You could have thrown all their albums out and just put the 4 of them on stage and let them do their magic and you've got the real deal!!! Not that their albums weren't brilliant, they definately were, but THIS IS THE REAL WHO stripped right down to the heart and soul...!!!
One of the greatest things about this concert is the simple setup they had. All the crap in the charts today have backup dancers and flashing lights and pyrotechnics when they are on stage. The Who had their instruments, amps and a few spotlights here, yet they still rocked harder than anyone else in the past 40 years. Real talent.
@don62snodgrass. The Who are not the greatest because they were one of the least consistent bands of their time. Obviously better live shows than Beatles or Stones but definitely not better music overall. Although I do think the stones are overrated, The Beatles are undoubtedly the greatest. Boiler jackets don't make bands great... consistency does.
@TheOppbitch yeah, but the who's music was 'strong', wheras the beatles were quite 'watery'. Pete Townshend said he was at home listening to music with John Entwistle and that they started playing about with the bass and treble settings and they realised that without the drumming and guitar, it was, as Townshend said in an interview, "pretty rubbish"
@ConnorG56 The Beatles music was, without a doubt, as strong as it needed to be. Any band who breaks up in 1970 and has the highest selling album of the 2000's (The Beatles - 1) doesn't have to worry about the strength of their music. I know Pete Townshend worried about it so much that he eventually cracked under the pressure. The Beatles just got better until they broke up. Any band who has Abbey Road as the last album they make together knows how to work under stress.
@mmm222r Yes and that is why I believe they were better than the Stones. The Stones never had an album that was a work of art. The Who had Tommy, Quadrophenia, etc. The Beatles had Revolver, Sgt. Peppers, etc. Pink Floyd had Dark Side, The Wall, etc. All of these are masterpieces. Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed are bullshit. Over-rated bullshit.
@TheOppbitch Just because something isn't meticulously premeditated doesn't mean that it's bullshit. I love and admire each band you've mentioned and I think you're missing the point of the Stones. The beauty of the Stones is their lack of premeditation, their chemistry, and their ability to create such organic, climactic, beautiful moments. These bands have almost nothing in common except the era they arrived in and the general influence of blues and rockabilly. They are incomparable.
Absolutely awesome, incredible, amazing etc.etc.....THE WHO ARE AND WERE THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME!!!!! They blow THE TWO MOST OVERRATED AND WEAKEST BANDS IN HISTORY, THE STONES AND BEATLES OUT OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!! THAT'S RIGHT,THE STONES AND BEATLES!!!!! WEAK AND WEAKER!!!!! THEY COULDN'T CARRY TOWNSEND'S BOILER SUIT AND DALTREY'S FRINGE JACKET AT THE SAME TIME! ENTWISTLE'S BASS AND MOON'S DRUMS BLOW BILL WYMAN CHARLIE WATTS, MCCARTNEY AND RINGO"ANYTHING BUT A STAR" OUT OF THE WATER!
Oh my Gawd! This is fabulous! Without a doubt, this is the most fabulous thing I've ever personally seen on You Tube.
I've been a Who fan for the last three decades, and posted here is something as close to the Holy Grail for me. Possibly the finest live rock album ever. Great post--mercy buckets!
Just saw a very similar, thought not exactly the same, clip of Christmas in The Who documentary "Amazing Journey". Perhaps there is more of Leeds out there somewhere ... oh btw, Amazing Journey DVD was $4 on Amazon.
@garygustin At a guess I'd say it was an error. It was very early 1970 so perhaps the student used 1969 as habbit. The audio is the 1970 gig and it synchronises nicely with the video.

Well I am formally inviting you to take a listen to my channel, Using your open mind take the time to hear my tunes.. your subscribtion to my channel will help me show the world my music. Much Love.
Many people don't realize, film reels (amateur home ones) weren't very long, you only got a few minutes. And you'd have to choose your favorite moments to shoot. So they got some good little bits of songs. Great to see!
Live at leeds on film? OK there are are unicorns for real!! The greatest live album ever. Now the best youtube post ever. The recording engineer that day deserves a knighthood from the queen, Iam shaking all over.
Quite simply, the best thing I have seen on YouTube. This is an important historical artefact for all Who fans - holy grail stuff! I don't care it's only snippets, in some ways it makes it even better just to see fragments of some songs. I can't believe I'd ever see any live footage from Live at Leeds, so delighted to see this.
Why hasn't this been released on DVD? This was probably one of the best live albums ever and it had to be a smoking concert to see. Sparks? More like flames......I would by the DVD in .79 seconds if it were available.
You could sell this for $100 per Dvd and sell a million copies. Why don't you do it? If you won't, send me the fucking tape and I will. Do it already!
Absolutely Priceless. This 'home video' gives some of the best views of how Keith would work off of Pete. Keith is amazing; at times his hold the sticks are like that of a conductor with a baton. The only disappointing thing about this video is that only has 26k views ... that count should be higher considering the crap on youtube that fetches millions of hits.
Years ago in the early/mid 70s I used to watch an ABC program called "In Concert". One time a voice-over came on and said the regularly scheduled concert wasn't avaiable, and that ABC was putting on something else. I couldn't believe it, it was The Who Live at Leeds!!! I've told many people over the years, but nobody believed me. I have tried to contact the archives at ABC before, but have received a response. But seeing this video confirms that they did play it. I wonder if a copy still exists.

Keith Moon is the only drummer who can captivate you as well as any good lead singer. He's not fuckin human on the drums. He's like a hummingbird or sewing machine with a beat.
@gomudhen These guys (all these older acts, eg: Stones, U2, Paul McCartney) have got to stop whoring themsleves at the Super Bowl. They should stop performing altogether. It's more for THEM than us...they should pay us! Robert Plant is the only one who understands that the magic is gone. The abandon of youth, the physicality of youth (and that combined with amazing talent and coolness these shitty fucking young performers of today don;t have) that this music was cant be played anymore.
GREAT! One of the best albums ever. I just wonder :At around 2.35 it says "Leeds University 1969". Why? The concert for the album was recorded feb 1970
MY GOD this is holy grail stuff here! I too think Live at Leeds is one of the best live recordings ever. And as someone who knows this record intimately, for years as a practicing guitar player, its a revelation to see here where Townshend flips his pickup selector switch, or where Moon breaks the stick, it all makes perfect sense to the music I could only imagine them performing. I'll never see it, But one day soon they will be able to clone these few bits of footage into the complete concert.
@DyrenesKongle Roger, John AND Pete "sings" A Qucik One. Roger does the most parts, John is a backking vocal most time and the leading voice in "Igor the enginne driver" and pete sings as the girl.
the greatest live band and video of leeds i got the album when u got all of the freebes like the contract for woodstock never knew there was video cool thanx uploader
Amazing footage. Tryin to find magic bus from live @ leeds but no luck. Probably the best live song ever recorded. Nice work puttin this together. Quality was very good. Thanks!
I echo the comments of my fellow WHO lovers, but I wanna add the point that this is not a bad video. Little camera shake etc. Maybe some current and future concert goers can learn about making vids for posterity. Thanks uploader!!
Thank you so much for this video. I have searched for years of some video of live@leeds. Even a bit of footage of this concert is good enough for me. This is simply amazing. Best live conecert ever.
The Who's live at leeds album is considered the greatest live album ever made by any group. The Who are the greatest live band on the planet and here is 4minute example in there prime and Moon at the top of his game.
@sundial35 because the video of this is crap quality with no sound then it got remastered and they put the songs over and all the rest of Leeds is missing so this is all there is of it
i may be wrong but i dont think this is the actual "live at leeds" concert, keiths drum kit is far to small for some of the stuff that you hear on the actual record, for instance "Young man Blues" listen to him at the end he seems to hit a lot of small "roto toms"(think thats what they call them) i cant see any on this video, but as i say i might be wrong.

Keith Moon is so fucking bad ass on the drums. I love how he jumps up from the kit at the same time Townshend jumps in the air.

I echo the comments of my fellow WHO lovers, but I wanna add the point that this is not a bad video. Little camera shake etc. Maybe some current and future concert goers can learn about making vids for posterity. Thanks uploader!!
