i like the idea of publicly funded campaigns. Our politicians should be elected by us so they represent us. the problem with this idea you mention is it would be so easy to start a fake organization with a name like "People for a New America" that was really backed by drug companies (or whatever) - expecting full payback upon winning. also people are dumb and don't bother to read or understand print at the bottom.
