  • The problem with typical public finance solutions is illustrated within your question. The phrase "both sides" contains the pre-supposition of very limited choices that already plagues the system. And ultimately the government, in one way or another ends up selecting candidates.

    However public financing can be accomplished while avoiding these problems through the use of P.U.D. Accounts which I explain in detail elsewhere. Sometimes subtlety within solutions is essential.

  • i like the idea of publicly funded campaigns. Our politicians should be elected by us so they represent us. the problem with this idea you mention is it would be so easy to start a fake organization with a name like "People for a New America" that was really backed by drug companies (or whatever) - expecting full payback upon winning. also people are dumb and don't bother to read or understand print at the bottom.
