Could you give some detail on the "number of instances" you speak of?
What about the allegations that these policies have been used to eavesdrop upon US citizens en masse?
Terrorists are responsible for a relatively small number of deaths in the last century when compared to unbridled state power. Why should we trust the state with such power, given the history?
The reason it has never happened in the US is because we don't give our government undue authority.
