They've got strange habits, we had a Dachs that would de-shell garden snails and eat them, he also used to peel lemons with his teeth and eat the skin and foam at the mouth while he ate it, was my mums dog weird ?

No dog likes changes to their home. My Dachshund still likes to roll in something stinky and come inside and jump on the furniture. But I bathe him, which he HATES. Then he smells good again.

My Dachshund used to do that with biological waste, and then come on the sofa, and bless the house with the sweet aroma of rotten fish or a rat carcass. He hated bathing and jumped out, so he could create an even greater mess, but i still miss him so bad.

Mine was a regular sized dachshund and he'd do that on carpet when we had it out. We ended up storing the carpets away because of mildew, but while we had them, he'd rub his nose into it, and roll his whole body and scratch his back and bum into the carpet. I did it too (I was 6) and it felt pretty good. :)

Almost all dachshunds do that, the reason is that its a new smell (cuz in this case they moved furniture) and the dog is trying to rub it on themselves so that they can blend with the environment, its part of the hunting mentality that all these dogs have, that if they smell like the surroundings it will be harder for there prey to detect them.
