  • What are does people doing down there their stupid I'm sorry for any bad talk

  • dang thats huge

  • Guys, I seriously doubt you'd be running away until the last minute back then. Sure, now that you know wtf happens when the ocean recedes like that, you know it's time to run.

Personally, I would have stood a long while too, thinking "olol WTF" - AND THEN run after seeing that ship getting devoured by the waves. If I were there at that tragic day, however.

  • when you see ships roll over it's time to get out of there genius!

  • I would like to think that the very beginning of the video, he was just recording the girls, and didn't even know of the tsunami

  • i would stop filming and run lol

  • nice the boats and the sailors are just stting there

  • By 2:00 i would allready be running LOL

  • can someone tell me why tsunami waves doesn't appears big ???... i saw surfing videos with bigger waves???

  • @JFguitar22 surfing waves are bigger but they dont come in groung, tsunami waves are big and they come by hundreds with an amazing force, its the ocean coming into the land basically

  • I know a guy who watched a tsunami and didnt know what it is! If i ever see something like this you hear only :"Miip Miip!!" xD

  • When you see the locals run like in the movies.. YOU RUN TOO !!

  • Did them 2 on the on the lilo at the very start survive or were they oblivious to what was going on?

  • why aren't they running?

  • WHY DOES NOBODY RUN?!

  • Really eerie

  • No one can stop the mother nature...it's horrible, and very scary.

  • What people do when they see a tsunami? They go by the beaches or bays like dumb-asses.

  • das ist eine tsunami?

  • they're still standing because they dont know that this is a tsunami-.-

  • god some people just have no idea.

  • Das ist ein Tsunami, fous le camp !!

  • 33 feet tall in some places.

bill_788: the quake moved the world 4 inches

bill_788: "The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis."

  • poseidon is mad at us xD

  • Thumbs Up If The Japan Tsunami Got You Here!!

  • alrite we r goin to die in 2012 for sure

  • Well this video just prepared 510K people for a tsunami...

  • People didn't run because the wave didn't "look" threateningly high at first...they probably thought it would disperse at the shoreline. The first warning sign (if you are ever on the shore) is when you start to see a large amount of the sea retreating and can see quite a bit of the sea floor. These people didn't know until the wave was almost on top of them!

  • killer wave bro!

  • Umm...what you guys dont see the big ass tsunami coming your way? This is the time for running. Like..now.

  • lolz i agree my ass would have been gone too.

  • the irony in this video makes me feel sick....i wish everyone wouldve evacuated to higher ground instead of watching...

  • Id be getting my ass outta there!

  • If you listen to the German they don't know what it is and are wondering what is happening. She asks if a problem and he say Na, though then questions.

  • god bless and its scary

  • No wonder those people didn't run, they wouldn't survive:)

  • i wonder y everybody is still standing there

my ass wouldve been gone already....

  • @miamoore66879 mine too

  • @miamoore66879 Most people were not aware that it was a tsunami to begin with. Don't forget that before the tsunami occurred, all the water receded into the ocean so people went out onto the sand, and little children played. The problem with a tsunami is that the signs of there being one are often very subtle, and obviously to a German tourist who has no experience with tsunamis, you can't really judge their decisions.

There are bigger waves here in Australia that are not tsunamis.

  • @miamoore66879 now because of this tsunami in 2004- the idea of what a tsunami would even look like is on our minds, so of course I agree, NOW I'd get the hell outta there! but if I had never even seen one, I'd just think at the time that it was just a big wave that would crash at any point.....maybe would come in a bit further than the others, but not turn into the devastating tsunami which did occur.....

  • @miamoore66879 dude have some respect people died. making jokes? yeah right

  • @miamoore66879 dude have some respect people died. making jokes? yeah right

  • @miamoore66879 maybe they're waiting until the water comes...

  • @miamoore66879 exactly!

  • we had tsunami warning in Long Beach last month

  • we had tsunami warning in Long Beach last month

  • God Bless all those poor people.

  • we have tsunami today hawaii..

  • I'm going there in two weeks too :P

  • though nothin cmopared to 2004 indonesia.

  • @aretnap11 this is the 2004 indonesian tsunami, it was nicknamed boxing day tsunami

  • @aretnap11 This is 2004 tsunami..

  • Look at youtube video: Khao Lak Tsunami, there you have the whole video of 10 min, and there you see that two minutes later the guy took his wife and two small children and ran the hell on a hill and .... survived. At the end he looked down the hill and started crying. a moving movie.

  • Das komische ist das ich schon in der Grundschule gelernt habe, das das ein Tsunami ist. Bzw. das man den am zurückweichenden Wasser erkennt.

  • It's hard to imagine that someone could view such destruction as was shown in the video posted, and then be so cruel as to leave insensitive, rude or even racist comments of ANY kind as a result!! (well, I CAN believe it, I just wish I didn't have to) Makes believing in your fellow man difficult, even in situations where the rest of the people involved come together in ways they never dreamed possible... to their benefit. Only faith in Jesus allows us to understand otherwise unfathomable events.

  • @jbenefiel304 You had me going until that bit about Jesus. I'm a Christian, but I don't think that bringing religion into it helped your point in the slightest. Just my opinion.

  • don't believe that you have to have faith in the jesus to understand.

I wish more people were keen to what happens when the tide goes that far out into the ocean. A lot of people lost their lives but I am sure that from now on more people will know what is impending.

  • Or you could try....SCIENCE!

  • unglaublich !

    was alles passieren kann o0

  • Mother nature sometimes unpredictable very scary

  • OMG! i feel sorry for who ever was on that boat! :O

  • yea that was time for him to run when he stopped recording lol

  • he was asking the whole time: what is that? I would be asking myself the same thing in that situation... but, sincerely, I would be running away at the same time!!! Those huge waves looked really scary!

  • The military ship...damn

  • I guess the guy did survive. how else would the video end up on youtube????

  • Sometimes they just found their cameras floating around somewhere in the sea...

    NO Joke!

  • @CubanLUVash sd cards + water = still working

  • did this guy survive

  • At 2:36 that boat gets swallowed! Damn I would hate to have been on that boat.

  • das Boot ist gekentert!!!

Ist das denn ein kleiner Tsunami oder so???

  • if you notice the tide going out that far and fast ....you better get to higher ground asap.

i remember this day i was at the beach in western australia and all the water disapeared and we knew something like this was happening somewhere.

  • no turner60 or whoever is right. look closely at 2:36 and you clearly see a small boat being crushed by the wave.

  • hahaha

  • nice video

  • There is the longer version of ths where they are running from the Tsunami Waves and that's even sacry then this.

  • ☻/

  • 99% of all tsunamis occur in the water.

  • So what about the 1% then?

  • The other 1% occur in Rosie O'Donnel's bathroom.

  • hahahahahaha that is the funniest thing i ever heard

  • LOL!

  • wtf runnnnnnnnn man!

  • man its scary there just watchingh it they could get far away and worn people..

  • wow. its amazing how you can't look away from something like that , when you should be running for your life.

  • . Very sad. He wasn't really even running himself and you could hear a Baby in the background. The footage is indespensible to researchers-I believe it shows how the water hits the shelf as it approaches - you can see huge plumes of water crashing upward - the color change is defined. How those on shore just stood there as they saw the boats capsized is beyond me-no noise, screaming-othing=mesmerized in watching something they were never meant to see. ////

  • I wonder if anyone survived from that group of really unknowing people-"what is that :" sounds the same in German as in English! How terribly sad - it took triple the time that it took in other areas to approach shore (3+ minutes) but was far larger than ones that destroyed everything - I kinda doubt anyone made it through-maybe they found this camera in wreckage and little by little they developed all the film they could find that people took before dying. ////

  • lol worst camera-man ever.

  • dikke dikzak vuile duitserr

  • they do not run because they don`t know what will happen!!!!!!! they don`t know that was a Tsunami

  • It kills me to see people standing there watching when they could be running to find safety!

    RUN!!!

  • No, it kills them.

  • no, its just a really big and long wave caused by an earthquake and going miles into the shore

  • Poor fishermen at 2:35. The Thai marine are doing the best thing they can do - steering the boats right into the wave.

  • poor people

  • that kind of waves got extremly power! ruuun

  • For heavens sake.. Run people... RUN!! :'(

  • It is pure human curiousity to see hwat is happening, humans are intreeged by nature and to see a wave so big for some reasons cause ppl to go into a trance and just watch it until it gets to close and they go "oh shit..." and bam, they're dead.

I know I would probably go to a shore line if a Tsunami was in sight miles away, but once it got maybe i don't know 2 kilometres close to the shoreline I would sprit my fucking legs out to get to a high building.

  • humas are stupid

  • @eltano06 Hello stupid!

  • Biggest mistake people make.. is to go to the beach to film what's going on. They see the tides have gone WAY out and wonder what's happening.. it's the tell tale sign a Tsunami is coming and you should move it!! Not stand around, though a lot of people don't know this fact. They're intrigued with the low water levels and it traps them. And by the way, you won't out run the wave, even if you think you can.

  • quando ele viu que a pica ia entrar ele tirou o dele da reta!!!!!!!!que merda presencia uma parada dessa...

  • shouldn't they be running?

  • I would go to the beach film it and once it got to close for my confort i would be running to the tallest pint i could find

  • unheimlich!!!!!!

  • It's astounding to watch. The guy filming can no doubt see that the water is coming with great force, it is simple common sense that it's not going to just stop where it was before. I can understand the human curiosity to go down to look where they wouldn't normally have the chance to view but first sight of that water coming in makes it clear it's time to run for the hills.

  • I think they don't have tsunamis in their country...

  • They're wondering what that is because the perspective of that side of the tsunami is barely seen on footage. I bet you'd be like wth is that and hang out there on the beach as well.

  • "Was ist das? Was ist das?" Never heard about tsunamis before???

  • OMG!!! why don't they f*ckin' ruuuuuuuuuuuuun!!!! they r out of their minds... gosh O_____O

  • Why are they just standing there?! RUUUN!!! Cant they see what is heading their direction??

  • omg theres gonna be a tsunami everyone will die

    really

    yea

omw im gonna get a vidio of this not run like a smart person

  • was this the tsunami from 2004?

  • Is that the first of the monster wave that follows it? If not, it's still pretty severe.

  • -boats get swept into tsunami-

    Sailors: SHIT.

People on beach: O lol. Look that that. -stares-

  • "omg,rruunnnnn,rruunnn,get the sunbed's,quick"

  • rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!

  • omg and they are standing and watching and the guy asks what is this...??? it's one big tsunami runnnnnnn,,,.....

  • there not educated to know what that means

  • parece pekeno olhando de longe ne

  • can we have this translated?

  • could you imagine surfing those waves

  • haha right on man

  • run you fools RUN!!!!!

  • im sorry.

  • oh my god, im german and i understand what they are saying! they cant belive it at the beginning and they always say: oh my god, what is this?

they really dont know! i mean, THATS hard!

  • People probably didnt run because they dont really experience tsunamis like that and cant possibly know the signs. For example, the camera man. Probably European. i dont think Tsunamis are quite that common over there. So its not fair to call some1 stupid

  • that my friend is a tsunami

  • dont blame the ppl for just standing there..i mean i would run or sumthin just because of the water running back in the sea.they thought i was anything but a tsunami.thats not right just there. to me wat hurts me is that kids are at the beach you know? and babies..no chance

  • why are they standing there....RUN

  • i second that... how stupid are they? staying there when a huge wave is coming!!?? ... is like being standing on a railroad, waiting for the train to come and smash your head...

  • its weird how the tide just dissappears before a tsunami hits

  • its beucz the tsunami for it to become a way(any wave not just tsunami)ithas to build the wave by taking in water and with a tsunami its basically a giant wave so that means major amounts of water taken up by the wave thats why

  • wow, that was a huge recesion to me...but it would maybe just go up 2 their waists thats wat i think cuz there not runin

  • Wenn ein gesunder Menschenverstand sowas sieht läuft man von automatisch! ich wäre schon lang weg gewesen, spätestens wenn ich gesehen hätte das schiffe kentern!

  • dam, that was a real miracle i heard about this family who was running at the sight of the monster wave, but they survived.

  • if i was at that position at 1:49 i would be sprinting away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like a cat chacing a mouse =P

  • lolz at 1:09 theres 2 peeps and 1 peep is saying should we run cos theres a raging tsunami come for us at bout 80 miles a hour...=P

  • all I understood was alter shwede xD

  • December 26th 2004 r.i.p

  • If i was there i would be heading for the hills

  • thats terrible of what happend to those boats! it's so sad!!!!!!! wish it had never happend!!!!!!

  • this is scary to watch.

  • I also understand that no Japanese tourist were killed. When they saw the tide go out so far they all headed for the hills because they knew what was coming.

  • I watched the documentary on it on BBC2 like last year or something they had some shocking footage people were running out to see why the sea had gone out so far so quick! thats why so many people died! xxx

  • that... that's just awfull, I wish it didn't happen

  • this guy is probibly dead what a retart why would u film that if a ship got knocked out by the wave that should tell u to run not stand there and watch so u die plus that wave was 10x huger then a regular wave.

  • I heard the waves were as high as 35m in places. Does anyone have any of those videos, because I still am unable to mentally get a picture in my head as to why so many people died.

  • Did this guy die or what

  • hahahaha WAS IS DAS

    very funny

  • the guy kept asking "was ist das?" what is that? ; if i was in your position i'd just run

  • very moving video. I created a song called tiny troopers that pays homage to the people affected by this disater. Please have a listen on Myspace music under Reactive Doze. There are two versions of the song. tiny troopers zero will have a video to accompany it.

  • did u notice people were already running even when waves were way out there. they knew.

  • was is das!!its a wave of death,i wonder how you keep wondering after you see the patrol boat already been swallowed.bah.turistas dont understand.

  • ESTA BACAN!!!!!

  • que miedo quew pase eso en Antofagasta!! vivo hayy

  • wow...respect to the people who past away on that day..

  • ANY GERMAN TRANSLATOR PLEASE?

  • K38rescue, Could you tell us what happened to the guy and his family who filmed this video! It looks like they start to run right at the end, would like to think they were ok.

  • The father was on German television a couple weeks later! Most amazing thing? The casualties were surprisingly(fortunate)not that high. To my knowledge the family is OK, do not worrie.

Cheers buddies, take it easy, love and peace to the world and thanks for the concerns, thank you.

  • last words - "was ist das?"

    oh dear

  • thats freaky

  • i totally agree with DS3M

  • it's difficult to hold the camera straight when you're nervous due to the fact that your odds for survival are slim.

  • If the video has been longer, insted of you saying,'run' you'd be saying ,"swim"

  • OMG HOW DO U JUST STAND THERE?

  • simple, on our feet

  • yeah u can an ocean on the moving continential plates will obvoisly a "black spot" well not in a way there will be evry 2 seconds but it ius more likely and yes i also feel sorry 4 victims :(

  • When you see that thing, you dont understand, you get paralysed! Its easy for you guys to say what he should do, maybe you would just stand there to, or maybe get paparysed by fear

  • agree :D
