well, let's see... the sum-total of my 'gaited' experience was many years ago, I taught the Peruvian paso of my best friend (who's paraplegic) to stand still next to the special mounting dock so she could get on him. I don't think I ever really even rode him! I'd better come over there and try it out...... : )
I love seeing your videos of starting the horses very easily... riding them more naturally without shoes / boots to weight their legs, no sitting on the cantle, and no nosebands, heavy contact and whips. Such a good job you are doing!
If there was any constructive criticism to give, I would say to let this horse have a little more of his head at the trot. It is too hard for Icelandics to go on the vertical because of their conformation.
I agree that horse riding should be as comfortable as possible for the horse BUT in order to assure soundness, fitness, and durability, the horse must learn to carry himself in such a manner that he uses his back muscles sensibly enough to carry the extra weight of the rider. This too can be achieved without any heavy contact or artificial aids.
The horse in this video is actually trotting on a loose rein but the rider is using her seat and legs to suggest the desired speed and collection.
Oh, and this particular horse is very forward moving and, if not helped with light aids, would quickly advance to a cheerful gallop at any time instead of trotting calmly...lol - thanks for your comment and general concern for horses.
