cheaper then a nissan micra ??? WOW I bet ya I want that Fiat Barchetta that is amazing such a cool car and you can built a turbo on it so it will be very fast
How can you ever compare a Fiat Barchetta with 1.8 16v engine with 130hp with an Alfa Romeo GTV or GTV spider the alfa smallest engine at the time was a 2.0 16v ts engine with 155hp then the 2.0 V6 turbo with 200hp then the 3.0 V6 with 220 hp
The later models had 1.8ts with 130hp same as the barchetta but also 1.9jtd engine diesel?
and a new 3.2 V6 with 250 hp so the GTV is completely different
compare it with the Fiat Coupe 1.8 16v, 2.0 16v, 2.0 16v turbo, 2.0 20v turbo,etc
@LondonItalian Yes that is correct, but when first BBC Top Gear ended production, Channel 5 created similar show with same name "Top Gear", after that BBC decided to put back theirs Top Gear in production and they also took back theirs copyrighted name(Top Gear) from Channel 5. Then ch5 invented new name Fifth Gear (5th Gear) and this "Fifth" is an association to channels name. Sorry if my grammar isn't correct, English is not my home language. Cheers
Such an error of Fiat not to produce the Barchetta in RHD! I think it could really have caught on if it had done. I'd certainly take one over an MGF or MX5, even if the MX5 would be more dependable.
@soundseeker63 The Fiats of this period were actually very reliable & parts are generally cheaper than Mazda, I love the little B & all Fiats (& Alfa`s), but, it is FWD, so the chassis isnt as good as the MX5 for `proper` driving on the limit. Even the GTV has that issue.
I dont like Japanese cars, but even I have to admit the early MX5 is a great little car, even if it does have a bit of an image problem.
@kelumon its top gear, the old one. i could give you 1000 evidence to show you that this is top gear, but im not going to bother. just look to the bloody screen at 0:04 and you see "top gear" written on the top left bit
@Shorty111R Import one! They are all LHD & you can pick up a really nice one for around $6-7000 US, about $2000 shipping, & add the tax (however much that is). The running gear is standard mid-90`s Fiat, so is reliable, simple & cheap. The downside is that the bodywork is the expensive, panels are 2-3 times more than a normal Fiat, so if you damage one & it needs panels, it will cost a fortune to repair, even if you use used parts.
i had a barchetta silver 1.8 16v 131hp and i miss it! it have has 198.000km and it was still going like new!!the engine is very great and agresive! i have now a bravo 1.6 16v put i going to get back the barchetta for the summer only!
Nice vid...I 've had a 98 for gtv 2.0 for 8 years and a 3.0 v6 for 3 neither has gone wrong at all and the ride on the 2.0 contrarty to Tuff is like a magic carpet.
I was first thinking og buying an Alfa Romeo GTV, then I thought about buying a Fiat Barchetta. I couldn't decide. Now I find a video of GTV vs. Barchetta. What's the odds of that?
@Grimz92 From a mechanics perspective I`d say get the Fiat!
The GTV is a lovely car, as are most Alfa`s... when they are working! you generally have to budget a couple of thousand every year for maintainence, breakdowns & AA cover if you choose one though!
@alfistii1 Your entitled to your opinion, I`ve seen more dead Alfa`s in the last decade than I care to remember, I`m an ex-Alfa owner & an ex Alfa employee. I`m still in the trade & I`m not some uninformed random internet troll.
I`ve seen them behave as reliably as a BMW, I`ve seen abused ones defying the odds & notching up high miles, but I`ve also seen a huge number of loved & cherished Alfa`s destroying themselves at low mileages due hit & miss build quality last seen at British Leyland.
As an example, my brother recently had a Brera that started bellowing smoke from behind its dashboard at less than 6 months old.... the wiring had started smouldering & the car was replaced.
I love Alfa & I want them to succeed, but I`m not going to risk buying one (post 164 & 155) until I`m happy they`ve sorted the quality control out, & that`ll take some doing.... I`m sure your one will continue giving you sterling service, but understand, your one of the lucky ones...

@fanateekdance I cant see the BBC allowing Channel 5 to use the name "Top Gear" due to copyright issues, but who knows, you could be right...

@hwdp89 I know! Why are you telling me that?!

@fanateekdance i think basicly ur trying to say that old top gear sucks, and that fith gear is a modern old top gear (sucks also)
