  • can anyone tell me what the specific name of this type of jazz is?

  • Is he Bill Charlap's New York Trio's drummer?

  • and here you have a very lovely Ronald McDonald signature kit. lol great drummer though.

  • @FrieLegos What makes it a McD Sig kit?

  • @JERRYR708 the colors.

  • Wtf? Who's the one guy who obviously didn't get it that disliked this video?

  • Haha they played "Badlands". Hot.

  • What's that cymbal on his left? (not the hi-hats)

  • This group came and played at my camp. Outstanding.

  • Great words from a great drummer.

Great to hear from Armen again.

  • whoa is that the same kit from his previous modern drummer appearance like, 10 years ago? It's good to see a drummer that isn't a whore for what brand he plays or the best deal he can get for an endorsement, but just plays what sounds good to him even after all the years.

  • @holyshnikes5 I think it is yeah, but also i have a DVD of him with Goldings and bernstein where he plays what looks like a black gretsch kit, so he might be endorsing gretsch now.Or maybe he has more than 1 kit..? it's the dvd from Smoke in NYC. great band..

  • Man, that K Ride is absolutely beautiful. His toms are tuned beautifully too. Great solo from a great drummer.

  • I love that he's one of the few great jazzdrummers out there that uses matched grip, and he makes so many sounds out of his kit.

His really showing that you don't need seven toms to prove that your good. He's always playing perfect.

  • B.S. at modern drummer fest 2008 the name of dvd?

  • Read the video description.

  • @jez12 The description doesn't really answer 'kuahtai' 's question.

  • @blackwash There is a link to the DVD's official store page so yes it does.

  • GREAT style, taste, creativity, chops and swing. So nice to hear someone who isn't a whackaholic and knows about finese and dynamics. Great players play for the MUSIC and not their egos and are always unique and distinctive. I always know when Stewie is at the drums. Great band also.

  • @dawnstarnovack1000 You are completely right in what you've said, dear friend. Musicians like Bill Stew save the music and our lives from this bloody banalaty of the egos. Unfortunately music has become a matter of guinness book.

  • he looks like robert redford !

  • @obgyno No, Robert Redford looks like him

  • @MrFootball102 true

  • does anyone know what song this is?

  • is this on dvd?

  • Read the video description..

  • VERY nice!

  • Shit, I'll take it all.......

  • I want to steal his ride :D

  • I'll take his touch over his ride..

  • I'll take his time over his touch :P

  • i'll take his independence over his time :P :P

  • haha touche sir :]

  • I'll take his musicality and taste over his independence

  • The whole package, which includes his independence as well as his musicality and taste is what makes Bill Stewart have such a unique sound and allows his musical ideas flow in just the way he conceives them on the spot. Why would you want to separate the 2? Musicality (which IS taste) and his independence are the tools he uses to create. The only contemporary jazz drummer that comes close to having such a unique sound is Jeff Ballard.

  • he's one of my favorite drummers, a big influence. one rimshot and you know it's bill. you sum it up correctly. nonetheless this thread is not to be taken too seriously.

  • agreed
