@brreadd Chick Hearn actually preferred to give accuracy in his analysis, unlike the average announcer. It's one of the things that made him regarded as the greatest!

@brreadd because that announcer is the greatest basketball announcer of all time. and unlike now, these games were a simulcast. which means radio and t.v. at the same time. chick prided himself in calling the game for the radio listener as well. it was phrased as "the WORDS eye view". he was doing a service to the radio fans mostly and also being an accurate analyst. now we have radio announcers, t.v. announcers, home game announcers, away game guys blah blah blah.

I remember watching this game live on the big 10 foot dish. All through the time out I was saying, Just grab him when he catches the ball. DO NOT let him catch the ball without fouling. As soon as I saw him turned loose, it did not surprise me at all when he made the shot. The OT was just a formality.

One of the great things about Chick, he knew when to NOT to talk. After Magic makes his shot and Chick yells "good!" 20 seconds of silence. He lets the radio and t.v. audience enjoy the moment. Now every announcer wants to run their mouth on and on. Chick was simply brilliant!

I was at this game with my buddy. I remember that the Forum faithful were streaming out as the Lakers looked like they were going to lose. I was yelling "where are you going? We have Magic" Then my friend and I moved down to the 5th row midcourt for a better look. Just another miracle by the Magic man. OT was all L.A.
