Sound Advice: I'm financially dependent on my ex-husband

After watching this I'm left with a few questions. I read the, "I don't want to rock the boat" line as she didn't want to do anything that might make him stop providing for her. So I'm guessing the alimony has run out or something and now it's optional? How does this lady go about being financial independant of her ex-husband. If she learns how to do that then letting go of the other stuff might be easier because it won't mean her and her kids won't get fed.
