I took this video. It was posted here by someone else. The car is from Pittsburgh, Pa. and belongs to a friend of mine.

It is completely NHRA legal, including the fuel system. Back when this video was taken the car ran 10.30's at 13x mph.

The car in the other lane won this race. It ran 9.8ish if I remember correctly.

I haven't seen the car or its owner in quite some time but I've heard the car has been totally reworked and now runs in the 9's.

The problem with the pinto if I remember was some bolts behind the bumper facing the gas tank was pushed into the gas tank when it was hit from behind and it could explode. The scary thing was that ford thought it was cheaper to pay the law suits then pay to fix the problem.

There is no stock fuel tank in the car. It has a FUEL CELL. Do you actually know anything about performance vehicles? Why are you posting on this video anyway? yeah thats true stuff. someone i work with got rear ended in a 71 pinto and it exploded and landed him in a twin cities hospital. he has 3rd degree burns and his only good skin left was around his feet. hes gonna be in the hospital for a long long time. search google for st cloud pinto explosion. his name is jeff.

I actually took this video at Pittsburgh Raceway Park. Don't know how it got on here.

The car is owned by a friend of mine. It runs in the 10.30's-10.60's range. The car in the other lane was voted fastest street car in the USA a year or two before this video was taken.

i laugh at all the people that make fun of "pinto's" blowing up. mine never did. had alot of fun in it.both on the street and on the strip. very few realized that chevy made a bomb from 73 to 91. the pick-up's had their gas tanks mounted outside of the frame.

A lot of cars in late 60's and 70's have their fuel tank located behind the axle. Of course the media hypocrites are hungry for sensation and tried to repeat the Ralph Nader effect. Out of 2 million built, only 27 died in fires.

Actually you have to be rear ended by a fullsize car (like a Crown Victoria, Caprice) at 70+mph. The only reason they got the bad rap was because they got media coverage. Smash into a Vega of the same vintage and it would tear in half then blow up.
