If Scott Aaronson's words, and he registered them with the copyright office then he would be able to bring a suit against the producers for publishing his intellectual property. I don't know the exact law, but I do know that taking someones written words that have been protected is illegal.
@yourtubeormytube you don't need to take it to any office. the moment you write something it's copyrighted. registering stuff might make it easier to prove that it is urs, or when u came up with it, but that's it. copyrights come into being the moment you create something.
It shouldn't have taken them 5 minutes to write a better script or at least edit Scott's to not be verbatim. Were they really that lazy, or that stupid?
It's a shame they couldn't find two models who could even ACT like they understood what they were talking about. And a vapid piece of physics as well- I'm glad I don't have to attend those lectures
Given that he is not famous (in the fashion or Shakespeare, Einstein etc), most viewers would not know who wrote the words.
For instance, if it was a famous quote/comment, then many people would already know where the lines came from. The company or ad agency really ought to have at least contacted him and discussed it with him.
However, given he has now brought this to the attention of the media, he may well get the recognition (as original author) that he deserves.

What's the prof's problem? It almost makes speaking nerdish cool! Plagiarism is an issue when his work is passed on for others own. Not when these models are spreading his word.
I actually disagree with Aaronson. QM is about matter, damn it!

Brunette model: But if quantum mechanics isn't physics in the usual
sense - if it's not about matter, or energy, or waves - then what is it
about?
Blonde model: Well, from my perspective, it's about information,
probabilities, and observables, and how they relate to each other.

Amusing, first ad I've seen derived from a computer science lecture (by Scott Aaronson)...

LOL at the vapid acting. Where's Jodie Foster when you need her. Kudos for finally taking the correct route to TEH FINALZ PHYSIX.
Source for the dialog is scott aaronson's blog.

Dude, Scott Aaronson is actually pretty cool. You should check out his thesis before knocking him.

This ad is horrible. It's about as exciting as wet toilet paper.

Well if you ever had wet toilet paper stuck to your ass, that's pretty interesting. J/K
