ok, to be fair, libertopia is just that an utopia, but in all fairness, there is a difference between government and state, the libertarians especially the anarcho capitalists are a little confused over that. They dont want an end of the state, which is the legal use of force, what they want is to transfer state power from the state to the individuals, which means it would end up in the hands of corporations. Somalia is not only no government, but also no state
A lot of those old, fat, white, hicks are probably getting social security checks & spending the money on gas to go bitch that the Gubbment shouldn't do anything for them.
But FYI: Libertarians (or as the rest of the world calls it: a Liberals) don't regard Somalia or the absence of government as ideal in any way, shape or form. On the contrary. Libertarians are strong proponents of human rights, individual rights, freedom of speech/expression/religion, free trade, property rights, rule of law, equal rights, etc. (none of which you have in Somalia) and that requires stable and able government.
I actually knew a guy who once tried to set up a Libertarian venture in Somalia. Google Awdal Roads Company and Michael Van Notten. He has since died.
Hey, I can see the stretch marks around your mouths! Probably from my teabag getting so swollen in November 2010. 2012 is coming. Better do some jaw exercises.
How much fun is it for these brainless people to joke around with a country that has been in a dire state for 21 years and is currently hit with famine. I really hope that Americans get a taste of what the rest of world suffers and that they develop some common sense.
Yes, because the lack of a functional government is the root of all the problems in Somalia. It doesn't have anything to do with the fact that the people are heathen savages. If only they had a government to change their culture.
I have an idea. Let's send the US military to invade and occupy Somalia, so we can make it safe for democracy. After all, it's working so well in Afghanistan and Iraq so far!
@rebel7254 You are missing the point. This is not about making a democracy, this is about living the LIBERTARIAN DREAM in a country without any government.
I have a better idea, let's stop sending the U.S. military to invade and occupy other countries (in order to give them the same kind of government western countries have) and running up billions and billions of dollars of debt that makes us have to borrow money from China. Let's get off of that hamster wheel.
@rebel7254 heathen trash? well, you'd be the expert on who is trash. that's a comment that gives credence to that joke i saw recently about daylight savings time. "remember to set your clocks back 1 hour. unless you're a teabagger or republican, in that case, set them 200 years."
@revbookburn Let's just force them off the docks. They can swim on their own. If they start to sink, they can just pull themselves up by their bootstraps :)
That's just epic and totally what all baggers should do. they need to go to a place that backs their ideology and that would be Somalia. Have fun! See you later!
@severnayaguard Ayn Rand said it herself - if we all acted in our own self-interest, the world would be a better place. She seems to be the champion of every, single Libertarian I've ever met. So by that, this video is a direct point - Somalia is a Libertarian paradise.
I've dealt with arguing individual points with Libertarians in the past, this video is just the perfect way to address them all at once. Ayn Rand's libertarian world is a fantasy - just like Marx's Communist world.
i'd rather be in somalia than america... or any country where people are retarded enough en masse to believe all that 1950's cold war-esque non-senseical t-party bullshit propaganda...serious lack of intellect and education manifesting itself in "US politics"
I'm so glad that in America we have a big government! I mean, there's no poverty, people don't go hungry, there's no war, corporations don't have any influence over legislation, we don't have Trillions of dollars in debt, no inflation, people can marry whomever they wish, people from other countries aren't prosecuted for wanting a better life here, people aren't thrown in jail for using recreational drugs, it's the American dream!!
@freeforall232 and now we have reached the enlightened philosophy where we are entitled to anything we want- the government will take it away from those who have been too greedy and just give it to us!!!!
Yeah, and we have public beaches! Oh wait: you're being sarcastic. Waitaminnut, so because we have problems you don't like public beaches? Or... wait... oh, I'm all confused...
"Despite the seeming anarchy, Somalia's service sector has managed to survive and grow. Telecommunication firms provide wireless services in most major cities and offer the lowest international call rates on the continent. In the absence of a formal banking sector, money exchange services have sprouted throughout the country, handling between $500 million and $1 billion in remittances annually."
@AntiSchiff I've been to Kenya and Tanzania but not Somalia. Africa is a great place to visit but it is not my culture. Are you writing this from the workers paradise of Cuba. Do you want me to swing by at 2 am and pick you up in a boat? God I hope they don't shoot us. States kill more people than all the private murders in history. I guess two more won't change anything.
Nice that you also disabled ratings? Why is that? Like most commie scum you can't accept that nobody except you faggot friends agree with your retard propaganda?
@jknowles74 I love it when we don't even have to argue against people like you because we can just let you talk and you discredit yourselves. Keep it up!
@AntiSchiff US has better living standards than my country but I am not moving to US. Why? It's too expensive. And that's not the only reason. So stop posting bs and accept reality, that living without government monopoly is not only possible, it's actually working reality. And that's a point ronwandell wanted to make.
"Somalia's small industrial sector, based on the processing of agricultural products, has largely been looted and the machinery sold as scrap metal. "
@ronwandell yeah, obviously people are going to continue to try to trade and make a living, jackass. but it clearly is not an ideal situation. would you like to drink the water there?
@ronwandell Aren't "remittances" payments from people in countries where people actually have money and jobs? Somalia is like Mexico, which is another libertarian paradise. The main way of "making money" is simply for people to make the money someplace other than in their country. Total fail, dude.
@basicwil Ron Paul to the best of my knowledge generally speaks against war because it's too expensive o_o The irony recently has been that he's usually the minority voice in his party, but now everyone else sounds like him.
@thisrandomchannel Anarchism is not anti-government, it's anti-power and anti-hierarchy. There's plenty of room in anarchism for people to band together in public organizations (i.e. government). I'm doubting you've ever actually talked to an anarchist.
@assassthenation You can't reasonably avoid power and hierarchy if you're banding together in organizations of any kind. Anarchy only actually lasts for just long enough for someone to take charge, even a little. It is, however, a good catalyst for changing things, for better or worse, but unless the people doing it have planned to start it end it almost immediately after it's begun, in a very controlled fashion, the change is likely going to be for the worse. No one reasonable wants Feudalism.
Hippies vs. Slaves - America is doomed if we don't study our past and understand our forefathers ideas of limited government in our lives. Nice to see a mixed couple.
Fantastic. If you want an amazing view of Somalia check out "Vice's Guide to Travel: Somalia". Shane Smith will take you deep into the heart of Somalia's Libertarian Paradise.

Tea Baggers are NOT Libertarians very much believe in the Government providing a strong military and capable police force, something non existent in Somalia, so nice bullshit video micheal moore
@Daedalus1776 Hi. I am a libertarian who is incredibly against all war, as it amounts to government intervention in the marketplace... amongst other reasons.
@thisrandomchannel So you "like" (in your own words) the government to run your life? It's one thing to vaguely tolerate it, but to "like" it? If so, I will gladly take you in as my serf, just hand over all your possessions and freedoms to me. The plow's out back.
Libertarians never claim there should be no government.. that is what anarchists do. Libertarians claim there should be minimal government, limited to the sole roles of protecting our lives, liberty and property. Your freedom to wave your fists ends where my nose begins.
Let me tell you whats wrong with this PSA. That white conservative teabagger is in public with a black woman. That could be seen as an interracial relationship and thats not realistic for teabaggers because they are uncomfortable around any other race but white.
Between 2001 and 2006, Somalia began to make great strides in creating an economic and political system based on Xeer. However, in 2006, US backed Ethiopian forces attacked Somalia and plunged the country back into chaos.
For centuries, the African Horn, and Somalia existed under Xeer Law. After the failure and collapse of the Communist government in 1991, Somalia tried to return to pre-Colonial Xeer rule. Their attempts were greatly hampered by UN an other outside influences that wished to create a Western style, centralized Democracy.
Libertarians want a corporate utopia where we'll be the slaves. They want to make drugs legal simply for the fact they want us to not realize what's really happening. They are worse than Republicans. Much, much worse.
Tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea. These things are all drugs. Tobacco and alcohol are even more harmful than marihuana. The war on drugs on USA is a medieval war that costs the nation many taxpayer money, lives and suffering.
so much for the old adage "i disagree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it." if Ron Paul is such a threat to the Obama machine, why not make him the Repub nominee and destroy him like they did McCain(McShame), instead of comparing US citizens to Somalians...
Republicans and Tea Partiers are those people who claim that the government is bad and inept, and then get elected to prove it. If it's such an issue, why do these guys even run for office? Doesn't that just encourage the problem? Can anyone say cognitive dissonance? Don't even get me started about the people who VOTE for these candidates...
Libertarians did not invade Iraq, Afghanistan. Republicans did. Libertarians did not start dropping civilian-killing bombs on Pakistan and Yemen. Democrats did. Democrats also started America's participation in the Vietnam War, which killed about a million people. This is a juvenile video. Libertarians are anti-war, against laws that keep immigrants out, & against discrimination against gays being married.
@emperorkitten I dunno. Your same logic applies to the Green Party in that they have never started any wars or corrupted the political process, but it doesn't mean that I want them to run the U.S.
@emperorkitten When Libertarians want something they'll just take it by whatever means necessary, regardless of where it is and who has it. That's the "power of an unregulated marketplace" at work. Go read Ayn Rand. You'll see.
@emperorkitten Libertarians are spoiled punks who don't realize everything they got would be ruined if their idiotic childish policies were in full effect for even six months.
@emperorkitten Democrats also beat the Nazis and got us out of the Great Depression. And Johnson was a Democrat in name only he was a dixie crat from Texas that Kennedy hated but had to pick to get the electoral votes. Not disagreeing, in fact I would in fact go one step further by saying "Libertarians did not do anything ever." nor could they build an interstate highway system, put a man on the moon, protect the environment or guarantee the care and feeding of a single orphan.
@emperorkitten I here tale of the libertarian on the banks of the Missouri River who sandbagged his own property and suffered cardiac arrest when the flood waters went all Democratic on his ass and flooded him out anyway! Viva la Libertarian!
Letting gays get married, keeping hard working people within our country, and stopping our mad government from killing innocents abroad - stop patting yourself on the back for holding such commonsense views.
But when it comes to the economy, you guys are whackos at best, cynical manipulators at worst. You want to take everything our parents and grandparents worked and paid for and just hand it over to your billionaire masters. Not on my watch. Not now. Not never!
Yea, go fuck yourself AntiSchiff. If you love the goddamn State so much, move to fucking North Korea!
Farris's Law of Somalia Analogies: "Any internet forum discussion about individual liberty that goes on for any particular length of time, the probability of Somalia being invoked reaches 100%"
@SirHatchporch Glad to see that SC is still doing well. Maybe we can get an SCTV relaunch. It couldn't be any worse than SNL is now, and we need a Mad TV replacement.

Much, much worse.
sndman1964 8 months ago
@sndman1964 That is because libertarians are told what they want by the corporatists.
dangerouslytalented 8 months ago
@sndman1964
Drugs are already legal.

Wow, some people really don't understand Libertarianism. But it's otherwise kinda funny.

BRILLIANT!! If I play this video one more time, my neighbors are going to stage an intervention.

It's always really rich to see a bumper sticker against socialism on a vehicle driving down a public road.
MarxDezix 8 months ago
@MarxDezix driving down a public road and also sporting a state university license tag holder or "My child is an honor student at X public school."
sdpt897 8 months ago
@MarxDezix almost as funny as Ted Nugent telling Glenn Beck on FEDERAL LAND at the Lincoln Memorial how much he hates the government.

@emperorkitten Libertarians are against school lunch programs ... and public schools in general.

@emperorkitten hey dummy,
the messiah added 30 thousand troops to the middle east.
dummy.
ssharkman 8 months ago
@emperorkitten I dunno. Your same logic applies to the Green Party in that they have never started any wars or corrupted the political process, but it doesn't mean that I want them to run the U.S.
radradrudy 8 months ago
@emperorkitten When Libertarians want something they'll just take it by whatever means necessary, regardless of where it is and who has it. That's the "power of an unregulated marketplace" at work. Go read Ayn Rand. You'll see.
robhoneycutt 8 months ago
@emperorkitten Libertarians are spoiled punks who don't realize everything they got would be ruined if their idiotic childish policies were in full effect for even six months.

@emperorkitten yea... George bush, famous democrat. I think not.

@emperorkitten Where does this video say anything about war? You're butthurt because you know they have a point.

Not now. Not never!
somatzu 8 months ago
@somatzu If free markets are good for the billionaires, why don't they all support Ron Paul?
They don't because billionaires need government to bail them out and give them subsidies.

@SirHatchporch Glad to see that SC is still doing well. Maybe we can get an SCTV relaunch. It couldn't be any worse than SNL is now, and we need a Mad TV replacement.
