It will only reduce the number of planaria in the tank.

Actually planaria are harmful if you have anything in your tank that lays eggs. They can quickly destroy eggs of snails, fish and other animals that might be in there. When I had them they also killed my gourami fry. :(

I WISH I had a tank full of planaria, such cool little creatures, and they don't cause any harm :(
