Yes, you are correct. We tried, but the hook was embedded so deep I would have had to push it through some vital structures in the neck. I didn't think the bird would survive that maneuver so we did the next best thing.
Good work guys!! Yes, those barbs are tough. If you can push it through so that the barb pops out, then you can cut cut it off and the rest of the hook will slide out nicely. Not always possible, but one way to do it. Thank you for helping him!
