Iv recently gotten into modeling and im thinkking of buying an airbrush. Where could could i get an iwata airbrush like the one from part 1 of this tutorial? FIY i live in Melbourne...
I've restarted gundam models after a few years away from the hobby. Now, looking at the process and the handling of the craft, I appreciate the amount of interest put into the model.
I have never used an air brush before.
What is the best way to start on a project w/ minimal mistakes?
I think you've already started doing that aegis38. i recommend you start by watching some youtubes, join a modeling website and ask lots of questions. If you've never owned or used and airbrush, you can still get very nice results with a rattle can.
Also i have just finished to build my Gundam Nataku 1/144 it doesnt have a exo skeleton so .... im very scary how to start it or should I descontruct it, any special idea how to paint it?
PD: I have some pics if u wanna see it and recommend me some tips on it.
Wow, I like the paint drawers, I wish I had one. What do you use for Panel line washes for Gundams? Tamiya acrylics or Mr.Color acrylics? and how do you thin them? (the better and cheaper thinning material is more preferable, with quality being top priority)
Hi Chromejael, it depends on what i used for a base coat. If I used a lacquer base coat, then I'll use Tamiya acrylics, if the base coat was an acrylic, I'll use Tamiya enamels. This ensure that the solvents in the wash does not affect the base coat. Hope that makes sense. As for thinners, I normally stick to tamiya thinners, although I sometimes use isopropyl alcohol for acrylics.
I'm using Tamiya Spray cans, which is made of synthetic lacquer. Is it ok if I sprayed Mr.Super Clear, which is lacquer based, as my gloss coat and then used tamiya acrylics for my wash? are my choices OK?
one more question, what do I use to thin/remove Tamiya spray paints? Do i have to spend more money buying the tamiya thinners? or can I just use rubbing alcohol(91% Isopropyl alcohol) bought from the local pharmacy/drugstore?
Personally, I use Polly S Easy Lift Off (ELO) Paint and Decal Remover. It's expensive but literally works in minutes. I normally just dab an old toothbrush in ELO and brush away. No elbow grease and in 5 minutes flat you'll have a stripped paint job, no matter how many layers of paint.
I've heard people have success with Isopropyl, but it can take days in some cases. I wouldn't use thinners though, that could harm the plastic underneath.
this is a beginners workbench? ... I've been modeling for a long time and don't have near this amount of paints and tools....lol

Excellent choice, I do that for model cars all the time. Speaking of which, a model car will probably be the next series I do.

Hi FerJH2, check ebay, a lot of noname iwate clones pop up from time to time. I've got a few and they're alright for a first airbrush.

Hi Peter,
Great job on the vids, I'm sure that it has tempted many young & old people to get back to the workbench.... I know it has me =p
I see you don't use Latex gloves, I find these invaluable when using my airbrush & when hand brushing.
Keep up the good work & it's nice to put a voice to the face =p

Thanks Chris, glad you liked them. Funny you mention the gloves, I actually do use latex gloves. I wonder where I've put them LOL
Ah yes, there they are. In the second video under the count dracula figure :)
