They are fairly common in ponds especially around scum. Make a hay infusion with non chlorinated water and add a few drops of pond water . Leave it for several days until the water becomes clouded and then examine it with a microscope. Chances are you will see a paramecium amongst many other organisms such as rotifers ,stentor, ameoba, bacteria ect...
I didn't post this, but I made this. It is feeding on the rice bit we dropped in there by ingesting it, putting it in its body, and then putting the nutrients into food vacuoles (that will happen later.)
@chease319: LOL! Are they related to amoeba? I think not. They don't change their shape, they do not surround and eat their food, they do not have them false feet and they use cilia to move. Why do you say they're related?
@jba10028 It is amazing especially when seen with your own microscope. Now what with all due respect I do not understand what is so amazing in soccer. Watch people run after a ball AMAZING?!?!?!

for microscopic audio, you'd have to have a multi-million dollar sound amplifying sound tuner out-in recorder.... lol

do you know where i can buy microscope (Zoom x400)
mikamk123 2 years ago
Carolina Biologic is a good company to get em from. I got a microscope there with 1000x for 519, and its research grade.
I like the binolcular ones because you don's squint. I bought a Walter M Series Binocular Microsocpe and it works well.

I'm not sure what microscope we used, but there was extremely minimal backlight and i'm pretty sure we used x400 zoom

Nice but paramecium aren't really animals, but more like animal protists and related to amoeba.

...there both single celled prokaryotes. Nit picker.

Paramecia have nuclei -.-
TheSonOfDumb 2 years ago
Paramecium are sort of like amoeba except they use cilia to move. Cilia are hairs if you didn't know that.
