Living in Denver for pretty much all my life, I think it's reasonable to say he is by far the biggest name in this city ever. And unless you are a die hard fan, you can never understand how much he meant to the city and all Bronco fans
I get emotional when I remember the very end of John's Hall of Fame speech...when he said that everything was because of all of us Bronco fans. He gave the credit to us......me. He basically talked about....me, as well as all the other fans who stood with him since 83.
Elway is wayyyyy better then joe montana he would of been even better if he had an awesome running back or amazing recievers like montana did ELWAYS THE BEST The 49ers havent been to back to back superbowls and the broncos couldve one it three in a row if it wasnt for the afc championship game against the jaguars that was a horrible call BUT GO ELWAY!!!!!!
John Elway had a great career in the NFL. He accomplished some things while playing that others wouldn't even hope to accomplish in their careers. I was upset when I heard he retired, but now he is in the Hall of Fame. Thanks for the memories John! You were a great player!
The Monday Night Game between Elway and Montana was probally one of the most exciting games ever to be played...Masters of the Game Squaring off... been an Elway fan since I knew what the game was when I was punk kid .. Truely The Great One thx John
Don't get me wrong. Elway was good. I love the man. Hell I posted all these videos. But the best? The best ever? I'd be hard pressed to make that argument. One of the best? Fo' sho'!
ELWAY WAS THE BEST EVER! Yah I know Montana is the best. But Elway carried the Broncos on his back.Hes more athletic than Joe Montana.Joe was succesful because of the west coast offense.Bill Walsh made joe.Elway made himself & just listen to the head coaches he had.Elway had a weak offensive lineman & none of his receivers made it to the hall of fame-that I know of.I'm not a denver fan but I recognized
quarterbacks. He was also better at scrambling than joe if you compare them in their prime.
exactly, if john elway had jerry rice he would win more super bowls but he didnt have anybody until 97 and he still made more starts in the super bowl more than anyone!
seriously elway kicks joes ass. joe had the greatest receiver ever and one of the greatest coaches ever, along with one of the best defenses of that time backing him up. imagine wat elway could do if he had.
Dumbass. Joe won 2 superbowls before Rice showed up, Bill Walsh MADE Joe abut after Bill left Joe won yet another superbowl, and the '9ers defense was still under construction during most of Montana's career. That and Montana was 4-0 in the SuperBowl, compared to Elways' 2-3 (winning his in HIS LAST 2 YEARS).
Go watch SuperBowl 24 and see who was the better Quarterback.
Dumbass. Montana won in 81' with a #2 ranked defense. He won in 84' with possibly the best all around 49ers team of all time.
Super Bowl 24? Watch that game and see who the better TEAM is. Put Montana on the Broncos and put Elway on the 49ers, and see which team would still win.
From a neutral point of view, Elway's accomplishments are more impressive considering the teams he played on. And when he actually had a decent team, he won SB's.
Numbers mean jack. He put up wins and numbers with NOBODY on the team to help him. This is why they got crushed in the SB's. Stop Elway and you win, an thats what teams did. Name a GREAT WR that he had? Name a GREAT rb he had untill Terrell Davis. None.
peyton manning will be the only one to pass his numbers. maybe someone else will like 200000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 years from now
Yeah, cuz he's made it his goal to pass him. He sucks ass. He was good ten years ago, but all he does is lose big games for his team now. He just keeps playing to pad his stats. If he really wants GB to win, he'll pass the torch to Rodgers.
Did you not see him throw one of the ugliest picks of the season in the NFC Championship game? MVP's don't play that way. Favre WAS a great quarterback, one of the best, but age will do that to a QB. In big games against the Cowboys and Giants, he played terribly. And as for the MVP thing, the voters just pick the popular people. Brady's near unanimous win didn't help his team win a Super Bowl, so who cares about that.
That pick wasn't that bad. He had Driver open, just didn't get enough zip on the ball. Elway lost Super Bowls by like 40 points before he ever won one. If you think Favre sucks, who doesn't? Would you rather have Tarvaris Jackson or Jon Kitna? 95% of the QBs in the league must suck because there are only two I'd take before Favre right now. Brady and Peyton Manning. Don't even say Tony Romo, cus we know how great he is in the playoffs. At least Favre can get his team out of the first round.

Ryan Grant's 201 yards did more to get his team to the next round than Favre, and do you not remember all the other playoff games where he has thrown multiple, game-icing picks to kill his team's chances? Need I remind you of the 6-pick game against a decent, but not spectacular Rams D? A smarter, less careless QB is more careful to throw passes where only his WR can catch 'em, especially in OT. He was great in the 90s, but hey, Marino was great in the 80s, that doesn't mean I'd take him in '97
That story Bowlen told is hilarious. I wonder if it was true. He's the best owner in all of sports. You can really tell in his speech how much he thinks of Elway. That was a sad day.

@jamin121884 Yep. In John Elway's first 10 yrs. he had very little help. But he still got his team to 3 Super Bowls. 4 AFC Championships in 6 yrs.

You might have had an argument last year. Favre just finished 2nd in MVP voting and was the NFC's best QB.
Besides Elways numbers aren't even close. Favre passed them up a loooooooong time ago, before he ever started playing poorly.
I'm no Pack fan, but if you think Favre sucks you are nuts. Did you watchf ootball this year?
