Read the news in October, 2002 - Gashuku (Kenyu-Ryu Karate Association Brazil) AKKB - ASSOCIAÇÃO KARATÊ KENYU-RYU BRASIL
With few participants, but to a very high technical level and with specific courses of Jiu-jitsu and karate (Daniel Sete Câmara) and Ki Breathing (Vail Mungai) and Special Techniques (Akio Yokoiama). The event was a complete success, like all others conducted by AKKB. See the photo illustrations at HISTÓRICO, on the bottom of the page at: wwwakkbcombr/
We have seen several demonstrations in which practitioners of Karate aren’t able to win Ju-Jutsu fighters because the first ones don’t know what to do after being dropped to the ground. Long after the fight some of them use to tell that they couldn’t win without attacking the opponent's vital points.
i agree it all stems from tradditional and a form with a meaning! we can all take steroids and frow a few haymakers n a lil grappling but you cant do no tradditional jitsu if ya can do better wel wait for your vids!!!!
Traditional Ju Jitsu like many other "Old School" Martial Arts and dojo's have been overcasted by this huge BJJ/MMA Movement. Let me clear something up for ya. MMA/UFC junkies...it IS a controlled fight with RULES and a ref just in case you get hurt too badly to continue or even submit. I can't speak for this demo and their training but Traditional Arts are the root of all this MMA craze. Martial Arts were created, generally speaking, to defend yourself
i myself practice traditional goju ryu, what i dont understand is why do traditionalists(some of them) criticise mma/bjj, ive done some bjj and am planning to get back into it, it not only improves your grappling, it increases your stamina, improves your strength, you can really learn alot from these great arts, add them to your training, besides! boxing wrestling muay thai, are as traditional as you can get, no martial art dates back longer than wrestling.
this mystical bullshit is just silly. Your sensei probably thinks that he can kill people with a two finger death strike BAAAHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHAAAAAA
@eugdog106 People like you make me fuckin sick. You think that BJJ is dominate over all other arts. It is an art that has chosen to focus primarily on the NeWaza techniques from Kodokan Judo and emphasize strongly on that specific area.....that's it. It's the Martial Artist more that the actual art itself. Please don't be so shallow
you know what buddy? Your idiotic mystical sensei is a loser. You probably know it somewhere deep down inside. That's why your getting so mad at me. Everything he teaches is trash. I am telling the truth and you can't handle the truth.
This is the stupidest crap i have ever seen. I'm sorry if i offended anyone but this stuff makes me laugh. I cant believe people take this stuff seriously. This is so unrealistic and retarded it's incomprehensible to me why anybody would ever want to waste their money on this stuff.
I had a dream the other night, in reference to something similar ... about a Japanese root, a backbone. Perhaps, the foundation to all ... like a drawing is to a painting. I enjoyed your artistic presentation. Movements were like a dance with nature. Thank you. Peace & Blessings~
Nice, reminds me of when i was doing Shotokawn Karate-Do. From what is shown the class has out standing dicipline!!! your dojo is a little on the small size.... you should try and recrute people, and raise money for a larger one.
Snappyface - "are you sure there are punches and kicks in Ju-jitsu" - good question, the answer is yes and no. The correct term is "strikes". There are strikes in JJJ. Elbow strikes, knee strikes, open hand "dead hand" strikes. these types of strikes are quick, hard and effective in close combat. Most importantly, they do not require a lot of strength and energy to use. They are primarily "stun" moves that allow you to transition into the next move. If you knock them out that's a bonus!
Apparently you favor Brazilian Jujitsu. Nothing wrong with that. Just be aware that saying Japanese Jujitsu either does not exist or "doesn't help much" when Brazilian jujitsu stemmed from it, is completely contradictory. No school is "better" than another, just different. It's all the same moves, just different ways in executing them. The fundamentals stay the same.
"traditional" jujitsu doesn't help that much in self defense... basically because there is no "traditional jujitsu". Jujitsu has a lot of different schools in japan. Some are simply EXCELLENT, forming all around fearsome fighters who blend strikes and grabs effortlessy... a beauty to behold.
Others do not ever spar. These schools do not help in self defense, and do not compete, not even remotely, with any art with realistic sparring.
"Traditional" implies the core fundamentals of jujitsu. Granted since feudal Japan, schools have adjusted their techniques and have unique executions, but the fundamental moves are still the same. Traditional Jujitsu has strikes, kicks and elbows. It's still very effective in modern self defense. Yes you need to spar, no you don't need to compete. That's not a practical application of the art since in a real fight, there are no rules.
It would be better to say that some schools have those techs. Other schools have them nominally (judo has them too, nominally, in the katas, kicks and punches and elbows and small joints manipulation...).
The effectiveness does not come from the syllabus but from the amount of practice you have put into it, in a realistic situation.
Katas are useless - so, two schools of TJJ may form greatly different fighters - or rather, a fighter and a poser. BJJ schools are more uniform. Competion helps.
Are you sure that traditional jujitsu would have kicks and strikes? I have always been told that it is a gentle art developed by the samurai. Once disarmed and having to fight hand to hand kicks and punches would not be very effective considering the fact that samurai wore armor, punch a guy in armor lately? Thats why its all about blood and oxygen chokes and also the breaking or dislocating of large joints in order to kill your enemy. I could be wrong as I am not an expert by any means.
You do know that BJJis a siplified version of Japanese Jujitsu from the samurai right. BJJ just teaches grapling while traditional jujitsu teaches grapling, stand up locks, throws, and weapon disarms.
Did I ever tell you I actually took a year of jujitsu? When I was in high school, a thousand years ago. But muscle memory is so powerful, I can still feel how to do a simple hip throw, can still remember how it is to block, to forward roll, and break with my legs while slapping the mat. Thanks for bringing back those memories! You do have a diverse touch, don't you.

It depends on the particular school.

Hay, don't forget about Dan Zan Ru Jujitsu.///I think the key to the "Soft Air" lies within all jujitsu....what do u people think?...

Why all the bitching about what form is the best?
BJJ is great for those that want to compete whilst a more traditional Ju jitsu gives good grounding in self defence and Kobudo.
Everyone can pic and choose what they want. The masters of each system do not go round bitching about the others style.
