That's not a backflip. I've had the Hobie 16 go over backwards, that is, the front rises up and the boat goes upsidedown.

this is the helm or crew doing a backflip. Hobies will backflip when tacking in heavy winds - if the crew are too far back the wind can get under the tramp and in combination with lift from waves can actually make the hobie capsize backwards

We once completly flipped out 18SX over after an endo, and after that decided to always secure the dagger boards to the boat. We were lucky not to loose anything that time. This blow over could have easily been avoided, they were asking for it.

I'd say 16 if youre new, if you never sailed cats before you should even consider a dragoon, which is for 2 teenagers/children, the 16 is for larger persons. (also 2 ofc)

I'm trying to sail cats myself and have my cat on one of the larger clubs in northen europe. (Dragoon, since I'm only 14 ;P)

When you go over, put head of mast into the wind,hulls downwind, release main and jib sheets to free the sails. Stand on lower hull, grab the righting strap and lean back,, it'll slowly come up and right itself. With sails free it won't want to sail away from you, with the hulls downwind, the wind will push on the "tramp" and actually help you right it. If you don't go over,, your not sailing it hard enough!
