to do a backflip in a cat you;d need to be going as fast as a reach into a swell and the wind which wouldnt really happen. but hey cat's are narly boats
The guy leaves the Hobie as everyone should. Guess what happens when you fall into the mast or rigging? Broken bones. Have a clue how much flesh steel rigging can shred from your body? Learn to paddle a canoe before commenting kids.
@ssdd631 words frome experience. theirs a reason why my cat is named "BRUISER" nothing can describe the feeling you get when u notice the down side hull tip dissapear under watter. i don't have to tell you what happens next! ;P
Leave it to the americans to make a mockery out of flag etiquette. No offence, most americans I know personally are swell people in every other way, but most of them would hump their flag if they could. And sorry, but to have a snotrag sized croatian flag on the starboard shroud and a star spangled banner the size of a bedspread on the backstay in croatian waters is just rude.
this is the helm or crew doing a backflip. Hobies will backflip when tacking in heavy winds - if the crew are too far back the wind can get under the tramp and in combination with lift from waves can actually make the hobie capsize backwards
You're funny. You didn't even watch the video & see the guy backflip off of the boat! he he he. daaaaaaaaaa. You thought the boat capsizing was what was being described! he he he. daaaaaaaaa.
I don't see the comment you posted that I commented on... so either you removed it or you're coming back with a new online name. :) So, whats wrong with you?
We once completly flipped out 18SX over after an endo, and after that decided to always secure the dagger boards to the boat. We were lucky not to loose anything that time. This blow over could have easily been avoided, they were asking for it.
no. they must be right. that's certainly not a flip and it happens almost every time you take a hobie cat out in any good wind. not wprthy of uploading. boring as snoring.
yes. so nearly every time u take a hobie cat out the tiller breaks? if u read the info u would read tht the tiller broke. thts y he did a backflip off the boat
haha my ruder broke when i was sailing my arrow catameran..... i was sailing and i capsized and sumhow i snaped my rudder and ripped my jib.....thats what you get when you dont have a boat renameing ceromonie...this happened on my bday
umm no u stand on the hull that is in the water ,throw the rightening line over the top hull and then u and ur crew lean back and then wait until it is back up thanswim to the side and get in
i have had a tiller break on me when i was out on a jy-88 but the thing is the jy's rudder is plastic that is why the wooden tiller broke something must have been wrong with that hobi's tiller.
08SuperNova08, look more carefully. The helmsman, not the boat, does a backflip. You get an F-minus for assuming that Americans don't know the difference between a backflip and a capsize.
I'd say 16 if youre new, if you never sailed cats before you should even consider a dragoon, which is for 2 teenagers/children, the 16 is for larger persons. (also 2 ofc)
I'm trying to sail cats myself and have my cat on one of the larger clubs in northen europe. (Dragoon, since I'm only 14 ;P)
ive been sailing a 16 since i was 11 and a 14 before that age has nothing to do with what boat you sail its all experience i sail a hobie 20 now and im 15. i placed 18th at the north american championships
Do you get sick of leaning in the trapeze or is it only when you get up full speed you need to counter balance? Im keen to start sailing these this year. Any tips? Thanks
When you go over, put head of mast into the wind, hulls downwind, release main and jib sheets to free the sails. Stand on lower hull, grab the righting strap and lean back,, it'll slowly come up and right itself. With sails free it won't want to sail away from you, with the hulls downwind, the wind will push on the "tramp" and actually help you right it. If you don't go over,, your not sailing it hard enough!
Ouch.

That's not a backflip. I've had the Hobie 16 go over backwards, that is, the front rises up and the boat goes upsidedown.

The titles reffering to the person on the trap, doing a backflip after loosing their footing on the rail.
