  • Nice tune. But i dislike this video because of the misleading and inaccurate and cocky title.

  • is that pinky dead?

  • @kangarooshoes367 He don`t need that pinky. Django Rienharte had only 2 fingers and he could play cirlcles around anybody.

  • On a more general note, why not pay a bit more attention to what's behind you when recording tunes to upload. Think what a nice velvet curtain would have added to the viewing experience.

  • epic, title fits and i dont even listen to happy music =x

  • Can you please finish it?

  • Very very cool. It is on tabs or sheet music somewhere on line? I love the Celtic flavor. Nicely done!!! I wish it were longer.

  • Very cool

  • awsome, gratz

  • dude, nice work. you have definitely put in some time. however, the title is a bit ambitious and not true. i dont have enough gumption to claim to know the best hammer on song in the world. but i know it is not this. check out michael hedges or eric mongraine or a million candyrat record players or check me out malakaiekim before you start making statements like that. unless your just trying to get a billion hits on youtube this is pretty damn cocky and uneducated.

  • You are clearly a fantastic young player and people should check out your page. Being the Best in the World is a tough job, but someone's got to do it :-) Visit UK sometime and you'll find this weird irony thing going on.

  • @malakaiekim When you talk about the best anything you are talking in the form of an opinion, there is no real way to scale how good any tune is...

  • @malakaiekim LIGHTEN UP! Unless you can do better... if you've seen Coveywoods' vids, he is very self-deprecating and humorous, he definitely doesn't take himself so seriously, like you... Are you aware of humor? Can you laugh? Relax and enjoy, and don't be so literal and critical. you sound very young, innocent, and provincial, but we were all there at one time, no worries. All the best bro, keep on playing and let the good vibes flow, lose the negativity...

  • @cgtriplett so....if i could do better then your saying i wouldn't have to LIGHTEN UP!...what? Check me out then :) search michael jordan st. augustine

  • @malakaiekim putting yourself in the same sentence as players like hedges is cocky and uneducated.

  • Good lord, the title is no joke.

  • amazing!how u do this?

  • awesome playing and i am learning hammer ons too. ..thank you buddy

  • Lovely playing.

My wife loves your guitar sound and she wants to ditch me and marry you. Please don't take her too seriously. What guitar is it? She guessed it as a Martin.

  • Aww - its a musicians perk (the one that first got me into guitar !). I play a "Bartram".

  • hey dude nicely done! really super cool. What tuning are you rockin out in here? DADGAD?

  • wow very nice !!!!!!!!!!!

  • very Celtic

  • sounds like the movie August Rush. :D.

    very nice tune.

  • DADGAD?

  • Absolutely !

  • Very nice catchy tune.

It reminds me more of a folk duo I saw years ago from the Orkney Isles, called

The Knowe O'deale. Consisting of two guys (who's names escape me)

One on a guitar the other on a mandola.. bloody good they were !!

I just went off to try and find the cassette to have another listen and it's nowhere to be seen... Damn !!

    Anyhoo...thanks for that musical offering.

  • I'll check them out - thanks !

  • thats awesome! :D

  • Any particular recent you name everything "THE BEST" haha? It's awesome and silly. Not that it's not the best. I might very well be. Just wondering.

  • This is the Best Comment in the World

  • @COVEYWOOD and this would be the best reply in the world - but only if I was you! :-)

  • @COVEYWOOD

    Please keep doing ukulele lessons!

  • I'm waiting for my new Mele Uke to arrive. Should be here this week.

  • love your work man........ inspirational

  • :-) thanks

  • Did you write this? Very nice either way!

  • Tes and thanks :-)

  • My fingers seemed to make it up.

  • John butler doesn't have patent on hammer on technique...

  • Strangely enough he and I both spent many years in West Australia. Maybe the air breathes hammers there.

  • @COVEYWOOD seriously nice!

  • Reminds me of John Butler.

  • I'm flattered !

  • Incredible! Nice job ol' chap :)

  • Thank you young man.

  • beautyfull song

  • Did john butler get this from him?? or did he get it from john butler???

  • When this video started my lips started to move upward. By the time the video was over my face could hardly contain my smile. Thank you so much!

  • It was great! Can you tell me what tuning it is?

  • i hung a swan whilst watching this. in a good way

  • Awesome . I can hear Jimmy Page playing that before breaking into Bron-Y-Aur Stomp. Good stuff. Really enjoyed it. Now I am going to listen to Zeppelin's That's the Way. Thanks

  • Its got this celtic/folk thing going on i like it

  • pretty good, but id have to say Igor Presnyakov's thunderstruck cover takes the cake

  • Amazing man. I'm trying to learn hammer-on and pull-offs on acoustic but it is HARD. Very frustrating...

Great song, did you write it?

  • sounds irish or quite folk.... awesome!

  • wtf ! skillllls

  • DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE,

    YOU. ARE. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • -this is why i prefer acoustic over electric

-but more power to you electric players out there

  • i was a bit doubtful when i read the title, however once you started playing I knew that the statement was not a lie

  • Well . . it is a lie .. . . but in a good way

  • @sanman312

Search for "Rjukanfossen" and "jåså jakt" and give your opinion :-)

  • Thanks for the great tune. You inspired me to crank the tuning pegs on my old Martin to explore the rich Celtic sounds found in DADGAD tuning.

  • Whoa - an old Martin. C'mon lets see it - pots a video. I had an old D18 once and sold for the price of an air ticket. I often think about it.

  • @COVEYWOOD ooh martin envy kicking in right about now. every time i get any money i spend it on my electrics and my acoustic collection is sorely lacking in quality pieces.

DADGAD is a such a rich sound by the way.

  • Aerial Boundaries? :)

  • Thanks for posting this tune, and also for your "HOW TO PLAY......" video. You've inspired me to crank the tuners on my own guitar to DADGAD so that I can enjoy some Celtic sounds. The beauty of this tuning is that it's neither a major or minor tuning, so that you can play either or both modes (which you've done nicely in this tune). Now that I've learned "Part 1" from your video, I'm working on Part 2 on my own. I should have it nailed after another 10 or 12 years of practice.....

  • How many years have you been playing?

  • Outstanding tune. You've inspired me to explore more of the rich variety of Celtic sounds that DADGAD tuning has to offer. The beauty of DADGAD is that it's neither a major nor a minor key, so you can easily play either one. (A feature that you've taken advantage of very nicely in this tune). Thanks for posting this and also your "HOW TO PLAY " video, which was very helpful. I'm currently figuring out "Part 2" on my own. Should have it nailed after 15 or 20 more years.....

  • just beautiful and inspiring and tgoughtfull of you to share such a pearl... thank you, coveywood is in my" repertoire" now

  • beliisimo

  • How do yuo do it though? I don't care if you can do it.

  • i wish i could play like that.... THIS MAKES ME WANNA YODEL!!!! IM YODELING RIGHT NOW HAHA LOL!!!!!!! LALA YODEL!! AWWWW THE VIDEO STOPPED!!!

    ):

  • OMG! Hammer On Pull off - I do not get it! HELP HELP! You have a video? Do I just need to smash the heck out of the string? Hit with a specific part of my finger? On a specific location? This just don't work for me. The hammer on note is muffled and shallow, weak sounding. I assume the pull off is just plucking the string as I remove my finger?

  • Use your finger as a hammer - with practise it'll come. Chill. Things that take a little longer are truly satisfying.

  • @COVEYWOOD Hammer on with the hammer finger.

  • well thats your opinion . . . i can think of 10 that are better and i even listed 3 . . . . and they are all half your age . . .

  • difficult to talk when my tongue is buried so far in my cheek.

  • why do you call them the best in the world . . . i think craig d'andrea's : morrison county, guess who's my favorite, and maneli jamal ziur are all better hammer on songs

  • Nah ! Mine ARE the Best. Seriously. No kidding.. I don't mean them to be the Best, they just come out that way. :-)

  • damn , that was pretty cool

  • meh

  • this is amazing

  • part 2 pleaaasssseeee!!!! :-)

  • oh man! you're a genius ^^ sounds like a celtic tune

  • oh yes!!!!

  • Awesome but near the end it sounded like your bridge was out of line and some frets didn't make the noise they should, time for a new guitar IMO

  • jeez! at on point he just stopped plucking the stings lol. this is quite awesome i have much to learn ^^

  • Now THIS is awesome!! Great job

  • so much respect

  • Simply outstanding.

  • You sir are truly amazing.

    I salute you !!

    YOU RULE :D

That was so energetic and powerful I absolutely love it :D

    Again ... YOU RULE :D

  • Great stuff!! I am practicing the first part of this, this is a great exercise for the fingers. Love the DADGAD tuning, now back to practice, thanks!

  • Yes, its a finger dance really. :-)

  • You sir = win. From one guitarist to another, I salute. :P

  • Salutations to you too, Sir.

  • Indeed Coveywood,good stuff.

Is this seriously a part of the best hammeron piece in the world, or anything that could claim to be it at all??....

  • Nah, its not the best. Damn good tho ! :-)

  • is this is standard tuning ?

  • probably not open d maybe

  • DADGAD :-)

  • how? how is that possible? on my guitar i gta hammer rlly hard to make the slightlest bit of tune

  • Does take a bit of practise but no trickery, honest.

  • it could be the action or type of guitar you have

  • I think its a really long guitar, and you ahve 3 hands. So you can strumm we just cant see :D

  • Damn you got me there !

  • Nice, but why dont you use your pinky? :p

  • diff learning styles...i dont use my inky often but only on barred chords..

  • he could beat me up with his fingers =O scary but freakin awesome! keep makin ur sweet music and we'll keep listenin!! ur awesome!

  • Wwooww that's awesome D: the power in ur fingers must be immense (y)

  • dam... best song alright

  • Sounds pretty damn good

  • good stuff you refrainig from using your pinky hinders the higher notes that would occasionally pop in

  • beast

  • great! I love it

  • wow, you are amazing =D

  • omg Incredibly original and very well developed. Amazing 5 stars and thanks for sharing such a piece of composition.

  • Go watch Ocean by John Butler and this will not seem so orginal

  • @rwebb61 someone missed Michael Hedges along the way :p I don't like debates, but if you want to know who it was that changed the acoustic guitar world in the most massive way since the dang thing was invented, and where the idea for songs like Ocean came from, Hedges is the name you need.

  • asome

  • man you are sick

  • awesome

  • Amazing! 5 stars!

never seen anything like that before

  • ça j'adore!

  • Formidable ! :-)

  • Nice:D

  • Shake that turkey neck, huh ? :-)

  • ha ha!

  • What is wrong with our culture that you can't even compliment a guy without trying to insult him at the same time? You're not going to learn much by watching young people. It's the old people who have accomplished the most. You'll be old too one day, only you'll be an old asshole nobody cares about unless you change the way you are, and this guy has people that love him I bet. Bottom line: be nice to nice people or shut up because we don't need any more negativity on youtube. THANKS!!

  • Your comment was both an insult and negative...

  • Yes but when it's in response to someone else and you have a good message with it, then its ok. Its like, I hate fighting, but if I see a guy beating up a girl in the street, I'm gonna kick his ass. Sometimes you have to stoop to their level to make them listen unfortunately.

  • Did you say you have tabs gor this or sheet music?

  • this is great stuff! thank you for sharing!

  • Thanks Metalman.

  • dude that is fucking awesome.

  • SMOKIN'...Loved It !

  • :-)

  • Godly.

  • thats hard.

  • Absolutely Gorgeous

  • Thanks chinadude.

  • Beautiful :)

  • Has a really cool 6/8 jig feel to it. Made me drop my pipes and go to the closet to drag out my guitar again!

  • Very very nice!

Sounds a bit like Sonny Landreth's style of playing.

  • Is that lemon jelly??

  • hammer.

  • awesomeness, im going to learn how to play guitar pretty soon, i have an acoustic/eletric guitar, they are so cute lol

  • This is really great. Thanks for this video.

  • i love the begining, u strum once then hammer on like 10-20 notes awesome xD

  • thats not true. I know alot of people who can't play electric good at all but acoustic they rock..

  • You're tuned to modal D yeah?

  • these are mostly pull offs lol but w.e same shit.

  • FRIG.

    o_O;

  • Good Lord!!! When I hammer on it just mutes the string... am I doing it right?

  • i think u might just need to hammer a tad harder :)

  • Thats right - got to get that testosterone going ! Could try starting out on an electric and then building to acoustic.

  • or the other way around. I think its better to start acoustic because the transition is much easier to electric

  • so true because the action on an acoustic is usually higher and it's easy to play electric when used to pushing the strings so hard

  • Lol, no

  • sweeet!

    that's awesome!

  • ok, i'm giving up my playing :-D

  • agreed XD

  • why? to ensure that you will never play like this??

  • they were kidding man

    jokes

  • cool

  • fucks sake turn it down i'm trying to have a relaxing bath

  • Very good, Earned the right to be favorited =]

  • open tuning?

  • DADGAD

  • so basically just drop D?

  • No, cuz the B string is tuned down to A and the high E down to D as well
