The "full story" for something like Fate Stay Night is a little weird. You really need to go through all 3 routes to complete Shirou's character development
Actually, the series has 3 routes with 3 heroines: Saber, Rin, Sakura. Each route reveals some of the story as Shirou chooses his way of life differently. Fate reveals Saber's past and Shirou pursue his ideals; UBW reveals Archer's past and Shirou accepts the reality but still pursue his ideals as Rin helps him to avoid Archer's bitter future; Heaven's Feel reveals Sakura's past and Shirou abandon his ideals to protect her.
I think Fate is the main route because of Realta Nua's Epilogue
Archer, a heroic champion from the future has become so badass that he's gonna go back in time and knock the shit out of the whiny brat (Shiro reminds me so much of prequel trilogy Anakin Skywalker sometimes) he used to be as a teen. That pretty much sums up his back story.
@SemimaruSakagami I'd say Heaven's Feel (Sakura Route) is closer to the true story. It covers the most back story and characters. And the Greater Grail was destroyed in Heaven's Feel too.
The name of the movie...? Uh...Unlimited Blade Works, it's in the title. ^.^ And I'll warn you: This movie is difficult to understand, even after watching the anime. LUMPYSKULL is right, but I'd rather read the Visual Novel first and then watch the fighting scenes from the movie.
For people new to the Fate Franchise, it is reccomended to watch the anime first, then finish the Fate route (To see how awesome the Novel is), watch the UBW movie (Be amazed at the action and at least have an understanding of the Nasuverse), finish up the novel.
Obviously a movie is never going to be better than a novel, and understand that for a 90 minutes movie, it was REALLY GOOD.
Great acting, very few fantastic scenes (what you see in the trailor is about all there? is). Overall a great idea and concept and full executed I recommend it to watch at freecartoonsus.
Watch this film online and enjoy sound of silence. You don't need to listen annoying people around you at the cinemas, here you can have only you and this great çartoon, and believe me, you will have fun with yourself.. If you don't believe me, try this... I am having right, I know that :-). I had great time watching this home alone on freecartoonsus...it doesn't exist anything better!!

And bringing in another comics character wouldn't be smart.. Cause we're talking about the WORLD OF FATE.. Not the world of characters from different comics/animes.. Then DBZ would prolly win.

Next, remember Berserker from Fate/Zero? He used an F-15 jet as a Noble Phantasm and then submachineguns against Saber later on. The F-15 took down Gilgamesh's Vimana.

@Cypher0120 The "unique" clause is correct here. Most of our modern day's weapons have no association beyond being a purchased weapon. Custom firearms are rather rare. A good example alongside the Iron Man armor would be Dante's Ebony and Ivory pistols. Both are unique weapons with extraordinary powers and are highly unique, regardless of their origins as M1911 custom jobs.

Also, if you like Fate/Stay Night, go look up Tsukihime. (NOT THE ANIME. The anime is GARBAGE). Tsukihime, Fate/Stay, and Kara no Kyoukai all take place in the same world. I just watched it, and I was VERY DISAPPOINTED; It was a fast-forwarded version!!! In comparison to the VA a bunch of scenes were condensed and others weren't in it at all. The video was solely based on the assumption that all audiences read the VA or watched the anime. Was this really made by the same people who brought Kara no Kyoukai?
Goddamn it's like they fast-forwarded through everything in the movie. It's not even 2 hours long, so of course it won't cover the whole route. But still, they didn't have to rush through everything.

The reason I said it was the same but from a different point of view was because during the trailer some of the exact scenes happened and few new ones were added as well. Ok, basically in the game, there are different choices that you can make - once you complete the previous route.
For example, after the fate (saber ending) route is unlocked, you have the choice of using your command spell to stop Saber from going for the killing blow against Archer right after Saber is summoned (thus PREVENTING Tohsaka Rin from using her command spell to make archer disappear - and thus altering the timeline).
This act unlocks the path to the Tohsaka Rin ending.
Man! This arc rocks!! Unlimited Blade Works! I like Lancer because he's a noble knight. Rin is the main heroine instead of Saber!!!! I wanna watch it!!! Played the visual novel. However, I NEED TO WATCH IT!! hayaku!!

@VvFrostyvV uhh well im dont remember the first arc much, the anime... but think of unlimited blade works as an entirely new story, but with the same characters and concepts. EVERYTHING plays out differently except the beginning scene where he turns into a master.

i thought about, fate stay night's routes are all alternate timelines. i'm guessing that the route that led emiya to be an epic hero ran almost exactly like the fate route except rin summoned someone else instead of archer. as to which route comes first, i think it's up to interpretation. personally, i would put ubw and fate as the first two routes with ubw being first while hf is last.
@yatsutora50 in ubw, archer tries to kill shiro. i would put fate second which is where his desire to kill shiro sort of disappears especially when he fights berserker. than heaven's feel is last where he gives up entirely.

i've seen the pc novel version of fate stay night. what i didn't expect is that emiya actually has sex in all three routes. in the fate route, he gets freaky with saber and tosaka and once more with saber. in unlimited blade works, he goes at it with tosaka rin. in the heaven's feel route, he screws sakura 3 times and he dreams about screwing rin. basically, for anyone still new to fate stay night, shiro emiya is an anime pimp with negi from negima being second to him.

in the fate route, it seemed that archer couldn't bring himself to kill his past self and then he gets wiped out by berserker. in the heaven's feel route archer gives up trying to kill shiro since he sacrifices himself for sakura. i'm guessing that he repeats the cycle numerous times.
Basically, in one universe, Shirou became like Archer, who became a Counter Guardian because of his ideals. This enters him into the Grail's Heroic Spirit pool, and because the Grail transcends time, space, and dimension, he can be summoned to other parallel universes. This is why normally Servants don't remember anything of the other times they were summoned (with exception of Saber).
So basically, it's a matter of alternate dimensions.
@Geyrel i see. i think the whole time loop thing i heard about had to do with the jewel used to summon archer being the same thing used to save emiya's life.
someone please reply to this. i'm still confused. basically, has archer been summoned back to the past by rin numerous times or something? i read somewhere that it was the fate route or a route almost exactly like it that led shiro to become archer. if that's true, it would mean archer appeared summoned by rin in the same route that led shiro to become archer thus creating some kind of time loop? and then there's still the other three routes.
2. If anyone doesn't know; Archer is actually Shirou's future self. So in this movie, he's trying to kill him in order to stop him from being a servant...

Personally the fate route with the secret ending was my favourite path in the game since Saber was my favouurite and i'm a complete sap but I did love the attention UBW gave Lancer and Caster who were just sort glossed over in the fate route/anime.

@ofuroba I doubt they ever will. Heaven's Feel has a lot of iffy content, like all of Sakura's H-scenes, the fucking Lust worms(OH GOD THE LUST WORMS MAKE THEM GO AWAY), and the fact Dark Sakura is literally naked covered in nothing but ridiculously dense magical energy. I don't think they can get around all of that and make it "safe".

No. The first anime is based on the Fate route of the FSN game.
This movie is based on the Unlimited Blade Works route of the FSN game.

@bobsixtyfour Im sorry, I just watched the anime and have never played the game so I am at a total loss of what you tried to explain. The reason I said it was the same but from a different point of view was because during the trailer some of the exact scenes happened and few new ones were added as well. But if you can explain the routes to me that would be great!

Ok, basically in the game, there are different choices that you can make - once you complete the previous route.
For example, after the fate (saber ending) route is unlocked, you have the choice of using your command spell to stop Saber from going for the killing blow against Archer right after Saber is summoned (thus PREVENTING Tohsaka Rin from using her command spell to make archer disappear - and thus altering the timeline).
This act unlocks the path to the Tohsaka Rin ending.

No, its an entirely different story up from when Shirou alters the route by preventing Saber from attempting to finish off Archer.

Man! This arc rocks!! Unlimited Blade Works! I like Lancer because he's a noble knight. Rin is the main heroine instead of Saber!!!! I wanna watch it!!! Played the visual novel. However, I NEED TO WATCH IT!! hayaku!!

@blockscorp We likely won't get it fansubbed until the DVD is released in Japan, which is usually just under a year after the Theatrical release.

@VvFrostyvV uhh well im dont remember the first arc much, the anime... but think of unlimited blade works as an entirely new story, but with the same characters and concepts. EVERYTHING plays out differently except the beginning scene where he turns into a master.

i thought about, fate stay night's routes are all alternate timelines. i'm guessing that the route that led emiya to be an epic hero ran almost exactly like the fate route except rin summoned someone else instead of archer. as to which route comes first, i think it's up to interpretation. personally, i would put ubw and fate as the first two routes with ubw being first while hf is last.

@yatsutora50 in ubw, archer tries to kill shiro. i would put fate second which is where his desire to kill shiro sort of disappears especially when he fights berserker. than heaven's feel is last where he gives up entirely.

i've seen the pc novel version of fate stay night. what i didn't expect is that emiya actually has sex in all three routes. in the fate route, he gets freaky with saber and tosaka and once more with saber. in unlimited blade works, he goes at it with tosaka rin. in the heaven's feel route, he screws sakura 3 times and he dreams about screwing rin. basically, for anyone still new to fate stay night, shiro emiya is an anime pimp with negi from negima being second to him.

As for Negi, well, when he reaches puberty, he may control the most powerful Harem in all of anime.

in the fate route, it seemed that archer couldn't bring himself to kill his past self and then he gets wiped out by berserker. in the heaven's feel route archer gives up trying to kill shiro since he sacrifices himself for sakura. i'm guessing that he repeats the cycle numerous times.

Basically, in one universe, Shirou became like Archer, who became a Counter Guardian because of his ideals. This enters him into the Grail's Heroic Spirit pool, and because the Grail transcends time, space, and dimension, he can be summoned to other parallel universes. This is why normally Servants don't remember anything of the other times they were summoned (with exception of Saber).
So basically, it's a matter of alternate dimensions.

someone please reply to this. i'm still confused. basically, has archer been summoned back to the past by rin numerous times or something? i read somewhere that it was the fate route or a route almost exactly like it that led shiro to become archer. if that's true, it would mean archer appeared summoned by rin in the same route that led shiro to become archer thus creating some kind of time loop? and then there's still the other three routes.

1. In UBW, they follow the Rin X Shirou Arc.
2. If anyone doesn't know; Archer is actually Shirou's future self. So in this movie, he's trying to kill him in order to stop him from being a servant...
3. It's gonna be one helluva movie. Definitely gonna get it. ^o^

Personally the fate route with the secret ending was my favourite path in the game since Saber was my favouurite and i'm a complete sap but I did love the attention UBW gave Lancer and Caster who were just sort glossed over in the fate route/anime.
This looks like it's gonna be epic.

@ofuroba I doubt they ever will. Heaven's Feel has a lot of iffy content, like all of Sakura's H-scenes, the fucking Lust worms(OH GOD THE LUST WORMS MAKE THEM GO AWAY), and the fact Dark Sakura is literally naked covered in nothing but ridiculously dense magical energy. I don't think they can get around all of that and make it "safe".

@BoneBeastKimimaro Gar blargh, I forgot about that... I didn't watch the anime, but remember that scene (It was under "Fan Disservice" on TV Tropes :P).
In that case, if they ever get around to HF, expect some... changes. Possibly Tsukihime-anime-level changes, if not a total replacement of several elements (like teh penis worms. Ugh).
But wait... what am I talking about? There was no Tsukihime anime XD.

@Geyrel Shirou gets his arm ripped off by a fucking DRAGON, which I suppose is supposed to refer to the fact King Arthur is supposedly the reincarnation of a dragon, and the fact that Shirou was literally getting a magic circuit ripped out of his body and placed inside Saber(in other words, his arm inside the dragon's mouth/stomach)
