True, I believe they'd been attempting to get a visa for decades, first the korean gov. resisted then the U.S. government got involved and it was messy, but they finally came for a "goodwill tour" last year
Guys, I am a 2nd Dan in the ITF. The boards are not less than an inch thick, but are an inch thick minimum (part of our requirements). I have to break 4 roof tiles with my fist to pass for my 3rd Dan; no spacers in between. These demo team members break boards 4" thick and more. I was there. This is where the rubber meets the road. These team members are THAT good.

HAHA why don't you quit sucking up? Are there wrestling demos or boxing demos or any other legitimate fighting sport demos? "Train endlessly". I guess they have a breaking specialist and a forms specialist and an "I'm shaking, you hit me HARD!" specialist. They are the ones with black belts in bullshit. They should be using their athleticism to fight in MMA tournaments and show that TKD is not a pansy art to EVERYBODY not just the bozos who are impressed by a staged demo.
Dude, it's an ART. It's not some barbaric ground and pound BS, ANYONE could do MMA and train hard and be able to beat the hell out of someone, but it takes a real athlete to be able to preform the kind of movements those in this more hard-martial art types do. and who's to say it's not effective? front kick to the shin, knee, or groin, that'd most likely work in the streets. Demo's are to show off the beauty and gracefulness of the art, and the sheer athleticism these exponents have.
You wouldn't last five minutes doing this. It has so much discipline and strength involved. O and by the way Taekwon-Do isn't just a "pretty demo team" it is a martial art that takes training and you do compete in tournamets.

I rate this 1 for SHIIIIIITTTTTT. Cheeesiest junk I've ever seen. Blegh. The local high school gymnastics team would probably put on a better show. This is NOT martial arts. This is martial FARTS.
true, a high school gymnastics team COULD perform this. That's the point of martial arts. It can be done by anyone. Besides, keep in mind this is simply a demo. The kicks are exaggerated in the fight scenes, and the boards are less than an inch thick. The entire thing is made up. The throws and kicks demonstrated in the demo can be used by these black belts in a real fight. They dramatize this because someone could really get hurt if it was real (and someone broke a nose during the demo anyway).

I have to disagree. The demo team is just that - the demo team. Typically they specialize in this - demonstrations - not fighting at tournaments or on the street. I am disgusted by how the "victims" in the demo are shaking and doing the chicken. The throws are set up and executed at half speed. Why not have them REALLY spar at a demo? Oh they might get hurt? Ouchie - maybe they should've picked table tennis then.
Interesting to see the North Korean demo team have changed their lineup so dramatically this year... More and more throws and grapples. I wonder why they're changing so much? Personally I view this change in a good light, I prefer the ITF choke/throw hoshinsool to simply kicks. But it is intriguing.
quite funny how the 'bad guys' kept getting up..if those kicks actually made contact, there would be no getting up. oh yes and the flipping grapple moves, imagine landing on concrete..oaf
I was there!! It was soooooo awesome. NK Demo Team, Thank You for putting on a great show and proving TKD is a means for peace by bringing North Koreans, South Koreans, and Americans together under the TKD Philosophy!
