This is just a fantastic version, although I do miss his brother's flute playing that last part with him in the last minute or so. The Montreaux 1980 footage has it, but that one is marred by the camera being on the keyboardist the whole time! It's a classic track anyway you look at it, though.
I can never decide what to do after listening to Hackett. Do I practice for hours on end knowing I'll never get there, or just bin my guitars and take up the triangle.
True to form, the live version is faster than the studio recording, which makes all the more amazing to me. The tapping referred to earlier from 1971 is actually on all 3 of the epic songs, "The Musical Box," "The Return Of The Giant Hogweed," and "The Fountain Of Ralmacis."
Great live rendition of this song from 1980 from Steve's 4th solo album, "Defector". The song kicks ass and is "visual". His band "kept up with him" here. I've always been a fan of the "guitar tapping" technique, which by the way, Eddie Van Halen DID NOT INVENT- though he did "popularize" it in a very dramatic way, as we all know. Hackett was doing this technique as far back as 1971 with Genesis on the Nursery Cryme album, for starters....Oh- I enjoyed the light show from above live show....
I was complimenting how rediculously good this was. I love Steve Hackett and this song, so don't call me ignorant, when it is you who are ignorant of what I said.
Great!!! :)))

this is truly "classic rock", that is ... classical rock like debussy - fabulous!

classic rock is actually more like 50s, 60s.
this is more like art rock maybe,
with classical elements or something.

Jus work hard BevelBob. Music is beauty, so go for it. Think of Hackett as some sort of spiritual master.
