The #1 WORST thing anyone can say when they see a drummer who plays like this:
"Oh, I can see that he practices a lot." For a tutorial on some REAL drumming, check out Tony Williams in 1972, here on youtube under the title 'Tony Williams with Stan Getz". Its a one and a half minute clip that will melt your face.
Yeah let's hold on to the old school cause it makes us feel comfortable. Dafnis is the real deal. Buddy and Gene were great but they are dead and so is their music get over it and don't hate. But alas the world needs haters so the true players can play. And both Gene and Buddy masturbated on the drums all the time, shit they started that.
Hey zzzzzzzzzzzz sleepy, where is the art and music?????? Do you know what contradiction means?? You ask where the art and music is and then you say he is very creative....though....
This guy cannot be compared to Buddy man. Everything Buddy was playing had sense, swing and groove. What this guy does is only masturbation. he miss real technique (lol)
my friend, you must have never seen dafnis play live. He is the epitome of musicality as well as creativity. Obviously, Buddy is incredible, but what Dafnis does is a different bag entirely.
exactly...people need to open their damn minds and be able to grasp and enjoy the greatness that Buddy, Dafnis and every great drummer has. They all bring different things to the table and that's what makes them who they are.
Dafnis is a motherfucker. If you don't hear what he does, don't invoke Buddy Rich to bail you out. No one plays the way Dafnis does. Some of the venues he plays catch fire when he's on.
This dude was at the Stanford Jazz workshops 10 years ago and didn't speak a lick of English. He was there as part of the whole afro/cuban education movement. They didn't need an afro percussion section, they had Dafnis.
i saw this young little fellow in israel at eilat jazz festival, he's so tiny and yet he's an amazing drummer, so creative and technique, unbeileveable!!

The reincarnation of Gene Krupa or Buddy Rich.
mraphel 3 years ago
He's good, I'll say that but let's not get carried away. There's only one each of Krupa and Rich.
