  • come on people... the world was made FOR same sex marriage... not this... Some people are just to plain blind to see what the world is... i still say yes to prop 8

  • Back in the closet with you!

  • This all brings a curious question: can heterosexual couples get a civil union?

  • Yep, it's called Marriage

  • Majority rule shouldn't have sway of individual rights. Why can atheists get married but not gay atheists? Or gay christians?

  • You know, I really wish I had known about this. I would have been there, too.

  • i love this video.

  • Love the song btw. Artist?

  • The artist is Marcy Playground; the song is "Your Generation" (I believe). I plan to use it as the "theme" song of any videos I shoot on the Repeal Prop 8 issue. I also used it in the most recent video -- protest and nonviolent direct action on Sat. Nov. 15, which is featured in the "Video Responses" above.

  • What's the name of the song at about 6:30?

  • There are two more songs -- a snippet from the Beatles' "All You Need is Love" and "Bouncing Off Clouds" by Tori Amos.

  • EXCELLENT choice in song :D

  • Thanks, it's a great song I feel.

  • They can protest all they want. the fact of the matter is that this country is for the most part governed by the will of the people, and the will of the people in california was to not allow gay marriage.

  • We'll see about that. The California Supreme Court has agreed to hear the four lawsuits that have been filed against the outrageous breach of our constitution. Whose constitution? Our Constitution! It's the first time that "rights" have been taken away by popular demand. The civil rights of African Americans were never "voted" on by the "will of the people."

  • Up until 30 years ago, it was also the will of the people to prevent interracial marriage. Up until 50-60 years ago it was the will of the people to deny women and black people rights.

Sometimes the people need enlightenment, empathy, education, and a little tolerance.

    Prop 8 will not pass.

  • @GoodSoulDept Well, it looks like we've won the battle. We've come a long way since this video was made.

  • shut up nazi

  • LOL Nazi? I dont care if gays can marry or not; actually, they SHOULD be able to be as miserable in marriage as hetero couples. But the FACT is that the meaning of "marriage" is a political question, not one appropriate for the COURTS to decide- its for the legislature and the people to decide, and they have spoken. Deal with it. Theres always Massachusetts.

  • Last time I checked, the Courts were A PART OF the political system in the united states government. The fact that MARRIAGE is "a moral issue" that will be decided upon by exclusive religious groups such as mormonism and the right wing christian theocracy is ASININE!

  • Maybe they are a part of the political system, but that doesnt mean its permissible for them to decide political issues. And the fact that Gay rights activists are storming churches like the allies storming normandy beach is just down right disrespectful and Asinine if you ask me.

  • Whose political issues? OUR political issues! Whose rights are we deciding? OUR rights, asshole.

  • yes. OUR political issues. Last I checked America was goverened by the MAJORITY. The Majority has spoken. Its understandable that you dont like their decision but that doesnt give you the right to raid churches. And as for christians suffering? Apparently you dont remember history. They were burned, crucified, and thrown into the collesium to be killed by animals. I would call that persecution...

  • You may have missed this important lesson in third grade, but the U.S. is a REPUBLIC, which is NOT governed by a majority because it ensures the protection of the rights of the minority. Get your facts straight about your country. Rights can't be taken away, as Prop 8 did, backed by the Mormons and the Catholic Church and by folks who don't even live here but who were threatened by a victory in California. WHOSE RIGHTS? OUR RIGHTS! WHOSE STATE? OUR STATE!

  • Republic? Democracy? Doesnt matter, the people still more or less get to govern themselves. and yes its supposed to protect minority rights, but it is still ruled by the will of the majority. And it should never have come down to prop 8. The Cal Supreme Ct ruled wrong when it recognized gay marriage. Not wrong because it was morally wrong, but wrong because Judges ARE NOT supposed to legislate from the bench. which he did. All the people did was correct improper bench legislation.

  • Doesn't matter? Convenient response after you've been preaching the rule of the majority to oppress minority rights and take away basic freedoms that should be available to all. Our system was not set up to cram your self-righteous religious morality down our throats. If it had been to the "majority," blacks would still be disfranchised. Our founding fathers did not envision that the majority would operate under the rule of the mob. Equal rights for all, not just for the 52% of the majority.

  • @cameltoejoe69

Minority rights are not subject to the whims of majority.

Going by your logic, Nazi Germans were right to exterminate the Jews - it was the will of the majority after all, in those dark days ?

  • @cameltoejoe69 The bench is going to outlaw Prop 8.

  • @Orishanla the LEGAL principal that Judges refrain from legislating from the bench.

  • they obviously didn't get the point on shutting the fuck up...

  • Whats goes around comes around. After centuries of being persecuted, subjugated, beaten, hung, burned, called names, all around BASHED over something as trivial as who or how we love one another is coming to a head.

No one was hurt in the raid on the lansing church. IF all those people suffered is a little "DISRESPECT" who the fuck cares? You act like your life as a heterosexual christian is a form of suffering. Suck it up! You can only push people so far, until they start to push back!

  • This is our time! Time for Action! I'm inspired by all the courage.

  • For a city named after a saint, San Francisco is very anti-Christian.

  • This IS the city of St. Francis and we're proud of it. It depends on your meaning of "Christian." Is it the Christ-ian who ate with the tax-collector, the prostitute and the one who gave water to the Samaritan woman? Is it the Christ-ian who threw out the money-lenders out of the temple? It's a different face of Christ that we represent -- give me your poor, your hungry, your oppressed. Yes, this is the City of St. Francis and we will continue to show the world what it means to be a Chris-ian.

  • it's not anti-christian to be for gay rights.... why do people keep saying that. and who cares what the city is called, it doesn't mean anything. it might aswell be called gayland..gay marriage would still be banned. i hope more and more people protest over the coming months!!

  • lol sorry should pay more attention while typing.

re: the confluence of 'belief' and law.

    very interesting..

  • it's fascinating to be living through this. to think we live in an age then the opinion pol and the vote are no longer any different. i am over looking at noses, let's get signatures for a vote to force people to cut off their noses. because my brainwasher says noses cause death.

  • "At a fundamental level, the Utah Mormons crossed the line on this one," said civil rights activist John Aravosis, an influential Washington, D.C-based blogger. "They just took marriage away from 20,000 couples and made their children bastards. You don't do that and get away with it.

    - J Aravosis.

  • Rock on!

  • i was there friday night. it was my first time every being involved in the fight for my rights as a gay american. it was an incredible experience to realize how much i have taken equality for granted. to realize that people generations before me had to fight for all our rights. i have inadvertently inherited this fight because of my sexual orientation, but it's something we have to do for the sake of freedom and humanity.

  • ROCK ON EVERYONE

  • I think a rally should be held at night in Sacramento and let fog horns go off for several minutes or even longer (like they did in TAIWAN not too long ago ) to maybe catch THEIR attention that we will NOT be silenced. bring ear plugs!

  • insanely inspirational. PROP HATE doesn't deserve a place in our lifetimes.

  • Thanks to all of you for making this happen! There will be more opportunities. I will be filming our next "happening" to protest Prop 8 on the steps of San Francisco's City Hall this coming Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10:30 to 12. Be there! (I'll be the blonde guy with the Canon hdv camera.)

  • i was there and it was one of the most amazing things i had ever been a part of

  • i went to this on Friday too!

it was really moving to see that much people in one place!

    Thanks for the video post!

  • This was the most amazing thing i have ever seen or done! looking at 25,000 people from the steps of city hall and knowing that we are all fighting together was amazing. The fight is spreading across the country.

  • We will on and on. The first thing everyone can do is sign Facebook's petition to the IRS to withdraw 501(c)(3) status from the LDS chuch; secondly, protest your local Mormon temple or church. Picket them and pass out flyers to their parishioners so they know how their church is using their tithes, for political purposes and not for outreach to the poor, suffering and civil justice.

  • Unfortunately, I could not take part in the protest march. At same day I departed to Germany. Gladly i would have been present, side by side with my brother and his friend. It had been so important to say NoOn8 and it makes me sad that there are still so many who reserved once rights. I ask myself, when the conservatism mind changes and these people rinse her morality down the toilet!?

YES YOU CAN...Fight until your rights are given back

  • i wish i lived in california so i could be part of the march

  • :)

I've never seen anything like this. This is fucking amazing.. a new chapter in the civil rights movement has begun over the past couple days.

  • beautiful.

  • I've removed the negative comments because I don't want ignorance to rain on our parade. It already did so we don't need more of them. The replies to these comments still appear, but they should stand on their own. I've received one hateful comment privately from someone who is obviously in a lot of pain and bitterness. May she be well.

  • This is beautiful thank you so much for posting it I love it! While I still haven't found myself in there I will keep looking! Thank you again for taking the time out of your life to share this with the rest of the world!

  • Yes WE CAN! No on H8!

  • Dear Prince Imperial XIV, making the signs for all of us was such a gif, you were so generous with your time and intentions. It made it all worth it, making us proud of who we are and showing our true faces to the world. Thanks again!

  • It was an honor to make your sign. It is providence that our worlds came together. Thank you Sir for your wonderful work and talent.

    namaste

  • Thank you so very much for including me in your vid. I'm the guy that helped make your sign in the beginning. My vision of having people represent their home towns was manifested. I enjoyed every blessed second of last night. I felt the most cohesion and love this City has not felt in decades.

    In Service,

    Prince Imperial XIV

  • It was awe-inspiring to see so many of my fellow Americans and my brothers and sisters show up to fight for our rights. And we will fight, all the way to Washington if need be.

On a lesser note, I totally just saw me! Woo!

  • Great video! I'm so glad to see people so active! I wish I were there.

  • I was there! It was a beautiful, inspirational rally and I know we will keep fighting until our rights are given back.

  • I was there, too, shooting the video. I was very exhilarated by it all and I came home and uploaded the video. I'm so glad so many people have watched it and your comments are a testament of our shared common goals and dreams. Justice and history are both on our side. We'll not let hate or fear stand in our way. YES WE CAN!

  • The protest was a great thing. I love it.

  • because they didn't lose anything!!! or have their rights taken away you fuckin inbred redneck!

  • Thank you for calling my being able to marry after being together for 11 years silly. Let's see what you say when a right is taken away from you. You just simply cannot argue with ignorance.

  • That is exactly the problem. People did not understand what they were voting for. We had the right to marry...now we do not. That means rights were TAKEN AWAY!

  • Yeah, having a right actually taken away from you kinda does that.

  • Very cool! What a great march!

  • um...i watched the whole video. i sure as hella didn't see any sour grapes until you came along.

  • starting at 2 minutes, i see myself! the flag painted poster and "separate but not equal" signs is my group :)

  • starting at 2:00 you can totally see my sign! it's rainbow letters and it says "Seperate But Not Equal" that's me =]

  • tonight was amazing. i marched for about three hours, and never once felt tired.

  • i was there =] i just got home right now and my feet are incredibly sore but it was so worth it =]
