It's really great to take a look at all the incredible cycling coming up. Right here in the south of England the sun is very warm and bright, Spring looks to be not so far way...famous last words, and the Paris - Roubaix is here. While we are out on the bikes, you must stay in and keep uploading the video bits...we might just have one or two wet days when we simply cannot emerge, and we will probably want something decent to watch.
What? Ooooooooh, Lance never really raced Paris-Roubaix or any of the Spring Classics to win? Ooooooh, I guess that LeMond is still KING, you ignorant Armstrong fans!
This CBS broadcast was the reason I got into cycling!! I was 16 yrs. old and knew nothing. I watched this one Sun. afternoon and was hooked. John Tesh's music was a perfect match. I became a cycling nut and still am!!!!!! I am so glad I stumbled upon this again!! Socalrider you rock!
They changed the finish for about 3 or 4 years because the velodrome was falling apart. The race organizers finally refurbished the velodrome and they went back to it.
Dam, what an epic race'86 was!Kelly was as tough as they come. The great thing with Lemond was that he raced the classics to win.I always missed that in Armstrong,as the only classic he ever fought hard for was Amstel Gold. But we can thank Armstrong for boosting cycling in the US
Yeah, it's a shame Lemond never pulled off a classic -- Kelly always got in the way. Meanwhile, Fignon gets my kudos for being the last TDF-calibre rider to try to win Paris-Roubaix (third in '88).
For about 3 or 4 years the race finished outside of the La Redoute clothing factory (sponsorship deal). They returned to the velodrome about 1990 or so.
Sprint finishes are often a little dull to watch, but somehow it's different when Sean Kelly is in the mix. What a great rider. Thanks for this video.
Dude: the French loved LeMond. The chilly reception that Armstrong received has given rise to the notion that there's some French grudge against American cyclists. The reason they disliked Armstrong wasn't because he was an American, it was because he was a hardass -- they disliked Fignon and Hinault for the same reasons.
sjl62, I know all about Lemond. I started bike racing in 1985 and watched the above video on TV when it first came out. Watch the video again starting at 1 minute, 11 seconds. Lemond has a flat tire so a French woman is laughing at him. You can also so a girl behind Lemond chuckling.
They are laughing because they are close to the action and on TV!! the girl is clearly chuckling when she sees the camera... Find another reason to hate France...
If you are French, then you are the other reason to hate France. They are clearly laughing at LeMond, which means you are either a moron or in denial.
Let me quote Greg LeMond himself here, about his duel with Hinault:
"The thing that was amazing, was the level of support and respect the people in France were showing to both of us through the whole thing. I'm not sure where people come up with the idea that the French hate Americans, but I spent 12 years racing on French teams and I never sensed that. They were great... even when I was beating French riders."

common man, you hear the teenage girls just getting hysterical, the laugh is not cheerfull, more like they are f***ed up that lemond is standing there sooo long... btw, france is not that bad country: nice bicycle races, beautifull landscape, good wine...live at the bride side of life man!
Second Paris Roubaix for the great Sean Kelly (after 1984), I was so happy for him and the late Jean de Gribaldy, his french directeur sportif, who has discovered Sean in 1976.
Anyone know who the commentator is?

Good lead out by 'teammate' Van der Poel for Kelly to win! (Kelly lost to Van der Poel one week earlier in de Ronde van Vlaanderen)

It was a different era when the champions of the sport fought through the entire year. Oh well, times change and cycling certainly did.

They did away with it for a few years in the 80s . . . for no particular reason . . . and naturally thought better of it.

Bob Roll was an average pro, nothing more. And his commentating is embarrassing--lame, wordy, stupid. Poor Greg, always the victim. Go Sean Kelly!!!!
