@rockapartie This is definitely not a cover my friend. Steve Vai still did a video where he talked about how he "wrote" this song. You can't write a cover song, that's for sure. SRV would never be able to play this anyway. It is a fantastic nod in SRV's direction though.
@SanctuaryShred You're right about everything except that I'm sure that SRV could play this easy. He was really good and hammering on and pulling off, especially with the lower frets, so he could figure out the main riff and everything else would follow from there.
vc e muito pobre de cultura mesmo,eu fui nesse show e depois dessa musica todo mundo aplaudio eles de pe durante mais de um minuto,e se e que vc fala ingles, vai ver nos comentarios que todo mundo adora o steve,
Anyone who says they don't like Vai usually says they don't like his style.. well maybe that says something about you; maybe you should reconsider yours ;)
Any who witness Vai and say something negative can't wrap their minds around what they're hearing and/or seeing.
Also, the older Vai has been, the more crazy his music has gotten- and he started off at unbelievable. He's better now in his 50s and that's just wonderful. He's a mortal god in music ;)
Actually, If you listen to the commentary of this on DVD, Steve actually said that "Scuttle Buttin" was the influence to it. He said he always wanted to do a song like it :)
lol. pulling harmonics off of his relative placement to the auditorium, notice him steping very carefully trying to pull the notes out like he did at 1996 g3? thats skill.
Sounds like a heavy version of 'Scuttle Buttin' by SRV... Lol

There is a resemblance between SRV's "Scuttle Buttin" and Steve Vai's "Jibboom"
Am I the only one who thinks that?

Great!
even tough I like the style from lesley west (mountain) more.
but steve seems to be more sophisticated and a hard worker too!!
Steve is one of the todays guitarists who carry on the art of playing guitar on their shoulders.

how do they do that yelling thing at 4:00?
oejc 2 years ago
He screams into the pickup which picks up the vibrations and convert them into electric signal which goes to the amp. Roughly.
alexprincel 2 years ago
The Beattles used that technique on one of the Versions of Revolution.
Eyzeday 2 years ago
via the humbuckers..if you scream at your guitar's magnet and you have a bit loud your amp, then you'll listen to your voice coming through the amp

The sweep picking after that sounds weird. And I LOVE the harmonics he pulls off from where he stands. It's awesome.
