I just finished re-watching Day One. Haven't watched CoE since my first run through of it. Just barely made it through Day One without crying but don't think I have it in me to watch the other four days anytime soon. Killing Ianto was the biggest mistake I've ever seen on any television show. =(

I turned fluid the first time I saw it, and I still do. Every time. ANd since reading the books and everything, and after "House of the Dead".... let's be honest, they are so completely fallen for each other.... :)
@Asphyxiapallida Yes, they are. It's absolutely brilliant watching their evolution over the real Torchwood, series 1-3. Ianto was unquestionably the love of Jack's long life (in my opinion, taking ALL canon into consideration - the series, radio shows, and novels).
And yes, their evolution is great. They grow up, and so does their relationship. Ianto grounds Jack, keeps him human, and Jack helps Ianto... let's call it "finding himself".
I'd also go for the "one true love"-thing. He's never been like this with someone else, especially if you consider all the other canon media. It's amazing what Jack tells him, and just him. :)

@ltbrooks it really is. :) I try to watch intelligently, since I am thinking about writing my Bachelor thesis about Torchwood (it's huge!). I think these complexities are really important. Ianto is supportive, even if the rest of the team is pissed, and that's something really vital to this relationship. But he's also a critic!
oh, I really enjoyed the radio plays and the books! I don't think he'll ever get over it. Regarding all the small things mentioned in books & radio... :( I'm still sad.

Oh, me too. I still get choked up thinking about Ianto's death, and how long has it been? The best part of MD (there was so little that felt like real Torchwood) was the mention of Ianto @ Angelo's bedside. Love that Jack mentioned him - he doesn't really do that about for past lovers, just Ianto.

The fact that Jack pulls him into a kiss is so meaningful because it shows that all Jack wanted was to kiss Ianto one last time before he exploded himself. So beautiful:)
You know what's horrible about Jack and Ianto? You get sucked into the chemistry and the love between them, it grabs you into watching Torchwood over and over again, then bursting into tears once Ianto dies, or a sad scene between them of some sort comes into it...

You have obviously never lost, or come close to losing a loved one. The relationship between Jack and Ianto painfully reminds everyone who has ever lost a lover, or a crush, that other people have suffered too.
