That's something I noticed in the US - most places to eat will give you plastic cups to drink from etc. So I guess it's not too unusual to never have eaten at such a place, although it wouldn't be fine dining where I'm from.

I don't understand the need for constantly having a chaperone--are they really so afraid of what might happen if they were left alone?!? They both obviously have good intentions, so the chaperone is unnecessary. In the past, a chaperone was needed because one or both DIDN'T have good intentions and parent's of the bride were afraid of impropriety--it was the bride's parents who insisted on there being a chaperone before their daughter became unmarrigable.

It also shows respect to the girls reputation.

Hmm, I think that guy was just trying to do something to get noticed and on the show. I've been to that restaurant (and yes, it's nice, it's one of the nicest restaurants in town supposedly, though I think it's mostly just overpriced) and nobody ever acted weird.

I wonder if the waiter was a stooge to make something suitable for entertainment out of that restaurant scene. They are nice kids but not that interesting. I can imagine that if the waiter wasn't there the restaurant scene would only be comments of "Oh look how nice and fancy this place is. I wonder what is in that? Oh and so, did you know the wedding is only a month away? Isn't Anna a great girl?"
