Using actors simply made the job easier, a little more flashy and took the risk away from hecklers ruining the entire expensive setup.

The masked magician revealed that one....It's the same principal as the aquarium trick. The guy who explains this is spot on the money. Here below is the youtube url to see how these through glass tricks are done. Remember, almost everything Criss Angel does requires an audience that is in on it as well as elaborate props, and special camera angles. If you want impromptu magic, you have to go more towards someone like David Blaine.

this uses the same basic principle. on the inside of the shop, there are people who can slide up the glass making a hole. the paper he uses covers this hole and he breaks through. when he is through, they slide the glass back down to conceal it.

I think this explanation is pretty good, I don't understand why so many are getting defensive about it; how ever it is done it's still a good trick performed very well.

By the way if you look closely at the aquarium as the camera moves around you can see there is something odd about the sides: they either look too thick for an aquarium that size or double glazed... obviously not a normal aquarium anyway.

I strongly disagree with what you say at the end, that this trick requires no magic talent. Unless of course you believe that some magicians are actually doing REAL magic. Magic talent is about creating an illusion and he does it very well.

Look very closely and you will see that the glass of the aquarium is multi-layered, so there is no need to compromise the watertight seal on the side where the card appears. You only need one stooge to take the card from the magician, move around to the side of the tank and slide underneath.

If the glass is multi-layered, water would only leak out of the hole while the two holes were lined up.

Whatever - it's a brilliant illusion and I wish I could do it as well as the master...

Sorry, but I dont agree with anything you said, I saw this guy live in Hong Kong where he performed this trick, He did it on stage, which means no camera tricks and only one person was called on stage which means he couldnt have given the card to anyone that was surrounding him. He chose someone from the audience randomly by throwing an object into the crowd so its is really unlikely its an actor. Also, it wont be a sliding glass as on the live performance, he drew a fish on the actual glass.

If the aquarium is boxed in a frame which holds the sides tight against each other, then the glass doesn't need to be silicon bonded and could be slid up and down on both sides with little water loss.

As for the hole, I think a latex rubber circle set in the glass is more likely, with a slit which he can push his hand through. That is why minimal water escapes.

It is interesting that when you look at the narrow end of the tank, perpendicular to the hole, that you can see the "tracks" in which the sliding glass/lexan/plexi rides. It almost looks 'double thickness'. It would be nice to see a hi-defintion version of this and analyze it more thoroughly. He probably used some silicone spray to 'slick' the two contacting surfaces of the glass to eliminate any friction as well as some assistants to help raise and lower the glass.

The aquarium's 4 corners is sealant sealed, it is impossible to slide up or down in one side where there is water pressure pushing against the glass.

Also, if it is double glazed, it would be hard not to see any water drops on the window when sliding.
