  • This just proves you don't have to play traditional to be good.

Amazing technique, amazing dynamics, and I loved the back sticking.

By the way, the dancing isn't trying to add points. It's him getting into what he's playing and enjoying it, which makes him a performer instead of just another drummer.

    Great job bro.

  • Why are you dancing around?

  • Sounded a bit rough for my taste. Nice dynamics. Some rim shots in the wrong place, but it still sounded well read. Nice job with changeovers! Great performance Aaron!

  • a few years later and im still impressed!

  • a few years later and im still impressed!

  • veeery nice technique but also great dynamics!

  • very clean

  • YEAH, he is a drummer. Why should he stand still????

  • How long have you playing and how long did it take you to work up this solo?

  • It was good, but there were a few form issues. The movement was a bit much, haha. Why no traditional???

  • sounded good except for balance between hands in some of the double stroke sections. And stop dancing, it's not "expression", it's retarded. Movement and emotions are fine but you just made yourself look like a douche

  • f--ing PROPER TALENT--I was all-state jazz drummer back in the day-- and my hat goes off to yo!!!!! BAng right on brother!!!!!!

  • wow check out all these haters. personally, this dude's expression in the piece is awesome. if he just stood there and played it it wouldn't be nearly as cool

  • and why were you dancing? lol

  • personaly i think the only time match is needed is on set (if it isnt jazz) or in concert/syphmonic bands, great chops, way to many gocks,it was originaly writtin in 66 there werent kevlar heads yet and was played on deep field drums, so the only time i belive a gock is needed is a big ole' stinga at the end, other than that great job man.

  • mhm...

    - small technical weakness in 2:23 in the left hand

    - not playing exactly the right notes in 2:44 (original is harder with 5 left hand strokes in a row)

    - the double stroke roll in 3:03 is quite poor.

    - the penultimate accent of the piece was hitten too good ;)

but the rest is nice! :)

  • Hey BRo can u send me the sheet music to tornado Please and nice job

  • Well, sticking is usually a personal preference. But traditional does look pretty good with marching snare. But otherwise, it can only be applied to Jazz for drumset.

  • yeah he is pretty much amazing

  • What kind of drumsticks are those?

  • nice dance moves too

  • Nice to see someone paying attention to dynamics for a change. nice job.

  • whats the sticking for this???

  • he looks like guybrush threepwood :D

  • dude second page the bottom....A.W.S.O.M.E that was majorly freaking mega delicious.

  • is this in tyler, texas? this setting looks really familiar...

  • Greenville, SC.

  • This kid pwns. I've known him for a LONG time. So stop talking trash about him.

  • you my friend deserve a whiskey, and also FINALLY some one who plays with matched grip, i cant count how many people ive seen with traditional. ... i dislike traditional.

  • that guy's got great dynamics

  • Ha, he was here this year. I remember seeing him.

  • Shut the fuck up squidward this guy's insane.

  • Nice job

  • ur mom can get a hair cut A-rodds hair is beast

  • Get a haircut, and you're alright with me =D

  • I think its absolutely fantastic. I love your interpretation as well as excellent technical performance. Great Job!!!

  • Just thot id say im the one who performed this and it would be super boring i personally think if i just stood there and played the crowd dug it cas i moved and had fun with it

  • his rimshots are creating is own interpretation, being musical you know, or maybe u dont

  • Playing random rimshots are not really a question of interp. Thats like a trumpet soloist fracking high C's because he things a bach chorale will sound better that way.

The only thing i'd say about this video, is maybe use marching sticks. I can't really tell, but the sound seems too thin. My bad if you are already,...

  • I wouldnt call those rimshots random. They were always at the top of a crescendo or on an accent.

  • Always? No... While most of the crescendos end with shots, there were still many that didn't. Not all the accents had rimshots either.

  • i was just saying...either do this traditional w/ a the marching snare....or match w/ concert snare...bc match grip on marching snare just looks sloppy, and...this could be a decent one on concert snare.

  • no ur wrong... simple as that.

  • u need to be playin this on a concert snare...i can tell by the way u perform that u are a concert player...either that...dont make as much body movements bc it takes away from what u are playing...also switch to traditional grip...nice on the dynamics...right hand on the rolls is heavier than the left...yea...no more head/body movements...takes away from the performance.

  • a concert snare? this would sound awfule on a concert snare.

what benefits would be given to him if he were to switch from match to traditional grip? Especially if you want him to play on a concert snare.

  • I am pretty sure the composer wrote this for marching purposes. You would never get clarity on a concert snare drum no matter how tight the snares were.

In solo playing body movement is more accepted than in a line situation. Look at PASIC every year and DCI I/E. Can't say that I support it, but it is an established practice in solo percussion, especially on battery instruments.

  • finally someone who understands accents and taps. You can excelently tell the difference between his accents and taps because they are so distinct

  • a-rodd yea man u the best percussionist i know and u still in unwanted band right

  • haha thanks for coming to my defense doublebassheeltoe. yea dude i can play traditional as well im open to whatever i feel like playing i just felt like playin it in match that night

  • nice dude but i hate match stick players learn traditional =P

  • He can play traditional. I've seen it. He's good at it. Look it up.

  • well on my line we all play traditional and we suck at matchstick lol

  • on my line, we play matched, who cares what you play. It's according to what the player wants or is better at, not what his line does. He can d what ever the heck he wants

  • My apologies!!! The comment on lack of proper nuances was meant for another drummer. You are flawless and very sensitive indeed!

  • Good Job but... too loud all the time. I believe that Mr. Markovich marked his score with nuances such as piano, crescendo, diminuendo, forte, etc. Try to adhere to the indications and presto! You are no longer just a fancy drummer but a real musician!

  • Aaron.

You can't dance when you aren't playing, why try when you are?

    Haha, nice work though.

  • Dude, you went to Furman camp? Nice, Dr. Hicken is awesome.

  • Jay is better. But still good.

  • Aaron... You are awesome dude!! Tell the fam I said hey!

  • dude do you think you could send me the sheet music for this solo. pleaseeeee osters28@yahoo.c0m

  • THAT WOULD BE MEEE!!

    YAYYYY

  • That was very good!

  • Incredible.

  • Beast dude
