This film is one of the last 'slapstick' type movies that could be made, outside of Airplane or Blazing Saddles...back to 'Its a mad, mad, mad world...they were just too expensive...But Mr. Steve pulled this one off! Music aside, the actor/actress spectrum is a colourful one. "watch it Wally he's got a leg!"
Without doubt the most underated film of all time.ive watched this lots of times and still laugh till i almost cry, plenty stands out but when the airfield commander tells one of his men to kick jonn beluishs wild biil kelso in the shins to make sure hes not a jap on stills is one of my favorite bits.
The issue isn't that people don't like this movie, it's that they've never seen it! I've asked so many people if they like this movie, and they've never heard of it!
Someone told me that John Williams wrote a "Sousa-like" march and I immediately had to check it out. I'm going to have to see this movie now so I can enjoy some more John Williams.
this song has been stuck in my head the past couple of days, and I played it in band like 4 years ago. It MUST be a good march to still be stuck in my head now!
we had nothing to do in band class today. so my instructor hands us all the sheet music and says "Learn it" i saw 'March from 1941' on the top of the page and started laughing hysterically. all i could think of was the guy with the grapefruit on the top of the ferris wheel.
Classic Williams. Spielberg himself rates this as his personal fave Williams March. A wonderous piece of music for a vastly underrated (and very funny) movie (that has FINALLY received a belated DVD release in the UK!!).
what is recommended? single tonguing or double tonguing the rhythm played the lower brass? I find the articulation and air flow much more clean when i use single-tonguing, but the first chair tormbonist keeps telling me to double tonguing. :S
Whatever technique you're best at. If you haven't practiced double-tounging you shouldn't use that :P Indeed, the air flow will be cleaner with single-tounging.

I love this movie as well. I like Slim Pickens - "We fought your kind in the Great War, and we kicked the living shit out of ya!"

Had this song in my head on our final march when I graduated Marine boot camp in 1989. If I have to walk somewhere, it still pops in there.

I think that the best march of Williams is played at the end of Midway.

A greatly underrated movie. Maybe not a great movie, but entertaining and absolutely hilarious in places. And a great score.

I was one of the few who actually likes this movie!
Spielberg said he actually likes this march BETTER than the Raiders of the lost ark march.
It not only has a great theme, but the ENTIRE score is great like this, and WONDERFULLY entertaining!!!
1941 rocks!!

I also love 1941. This is Spielberg's most underrated film. This march is truly incredible and one of John William's absolute best.
TheAltair4 2 years ago 34
@janhammerrules well of course John Williams wrote it hahaha =D

@janhammerrules I wanna high five you so bad for saying that! This movie is probably one of my biggest guilty pleasures next to Troll 2.
