  • i love this song <3 and i am from Poland :)

  • "An American song needless to say?" Come on. Bowie can't be that naive. Or perhaps he can. This "American" song put a shitload of cash into his British bank account. Over time the Brits really have been showing their true intellectual colors. Foooool.

  • omg... my grandma looks like him O____________o

  • an american song haha

  • Y la percusionista que hace los coros pone y con mas tetas me pondria aun más...

  • Es genial unico...

  • it's STILL hard for me to believe John Lennon contributed to this song....Lennon wasn't exactly known for being funky

  • @fanofprotopic my guess (could be wrong, but don't think so), is that Lennon's contribution was primarily to the concept/lyrics. And that the funkyness was also a result of the musicians that David recorded with at the time, including Carlos Alomar on guitar.

  • @fanofprotopic I know he only said to Bowie write a song which motif could be fame... just that... and he also contributed to backing vocal. Just that.

  • omg, the girls are maRVELous

  • OH LORD! LONG HAIR! HAWTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!

  • fameeee

  • David said "This is an American Song" before the song started. How is this an American song? Isn't this his song? Or does he mean it gained popularity in America?

  • @rockthecityatnight yeah, It was from the Album Young Americans, written and recorded in America with American artists and his first no1 hit in america.

  • @ledgerdeathshit That makes sense. Great tune by Bowie.

  • Bowie is famous, and he's doing a song against idle fame. Oh, the irony.

  • This is a great video. Thanks for posting it. It shows Bowie in his prime. Love it.

  • very beginning of the vid looks and sounds like gh2. lol

  • bowie is one motherfuckin cool whiteboy.

  • Guitar Hero madness

  • ...21 thumbs down = 21 douche nozzles... heehee... :0)~

  • Goes to my theory of the fact that the 70's had the best music. Please compare with the sh't we have today, sampling, voice overs. I'm sick of it, what about real musicians playing real music. It's cause the masses are taking it, with a smile on their faces. Love this music and what it stands for, thanks for posting. One of my favourite songs, sounds as good as the firest day I heard it.

  • @zgolijan Totally agree with that!!

  • @zgolijan Go watch his performance of this on soul train and tell me he's not lip syncing to a song full of voice overs. What about Queen? Lots of their studio albums were full of voice overs.I believe bohemian rhapsody held the record for the most in a single song. Lots of musicians still do and have always played real music. You just have to look past pop.I agree with you that the 70's had some of the best music ever created, but there's lots of amazing songs that were made in the last decade.

  • Ich würde ihn auch über 60 Jahre alt direkt heiraten....das Tanjachen

  • i love that bass tone its just very up front and precise so tasty i love it

  • Earl Slick is such a badass....

  • Shit being there wuld have been like having him in your living room.

  • Only David Bowie could make improvements to this song. This version is awesome!

  • Is David Spade his brother or what??? I love me some Bowie!!

  • Woh das is ein hammer song

  • ich liebe diesen Mann u seine Musik soooo sehr.

  • @TheTanjachen ...ja richtig... :-)

  • yes im having a bowie morning lol

  • brilliant

  • That dude is playing a cherry Gibson SG, rock on! One of the best sounding electric guitars. Duane Allman, Neal Schon, and Dave Davies all used it.

  • man needs a hairdresser,

  • love the song love david bowe's music but seriously they have the strangest hairdoos!

  • i think some guy just goes around to all the good music and dislikes it

  • how can you dislike this?

  • @3:36,love that come on little suckers, omg can't get enough of David Bowie,he is so handsome and sweet and funny, all of what i love in a man.big fan in Canada, deathnotes mom,Barabara:)

  • i love u

  • I've always underestimated his vocal talent - looking back I only now appreciate his voice.

  • the people who disliked this video are all bastards!!

  • Monster funk groove...thanks to this video, my pants have even MORE funk in them!

    5 pies OOOOO

  • DAVID IS THE MAN!

  • Great DB and drums!

  • at 3:35 does he say "Come on Lennon sing it." ?

  • I love the version, his voice is so funky! I love his vocal range ^^

  • David,te queremos pronto en Barcelona.

  • And if Lennon said that about Bowie I think he was right, McCartney has no versatility proof are his newer records, that dont sell same for Ringo.

  • Bowie is a great vocalist and composer maybe not with a huge vocal range but you can clearly see despite all these years his music is still great!!! Even Rubber band!

  • @123wilhelm Excuse me but Bowie's vocal range is huge: "He had a typical baritonal range yet could belt into the high tenor range, around a Bb4 with a full and powerful timbre..maybe higher". His octave range is huge.

David Bowie can really do it all - low, high, whiney, screamy, gritty, a great voice for rock, pop, whatever.

  • @Cyndizdayswar He's a pop-rock opera singer wouldn't u say?

  • @subimedia In the last years his voice was losing potency, but thinking about his golden years..... yes!

  • grooooooovy !!!!

  • I remember this song as a kid being played by our next door neighbor, speaker rocking the walls sounding so damn good, not knowing it was a good looking white guy. I miss music being music having no color. Just jamming.

  • his hair reminds me to the hunky dory album. he got the long haor when his son born.its unique

  • Top video. Even with his silly hair, this is great...

  • This song was written by David Bowie and John Lennon. Lennon went on to say that Bowie was the most talented person he had ever worked with. Think he was having a pop at Paul, though.

  • @GeminiSpaceship

"This song was written by David Bowie and John Lennon."

Actually it was written by Bowie, Lennon and the fabulous Carlos Alomar. Listening to other songs from the same album, Young Americans, you can hear Alomars stamp all over "Fame". The funky R & B/ Soul flavored chordal work is vintage Alomar, and I would wager it was more his song than Lennons, whom I am a huge fan of also.

  • The moment I first heard this song, I was so blown away that it was Bowie. Goes to show how versatile he was and is.

  • From the "Young Americans" album (1975)

  • he is soooo cool,. great singer

  • wow youtube really has brought the world together.

  • John Lennon wrote this piece! Also, to make mention; the ENTIRE R&B world owes Bowie FOREVER cause he's the one that discovered LUTHER VANDROSS! BOW DOWN 2 BOWIE!

  • That is complete bull. Bowie co-wrote this song with Carlos Alomar. Lennon was in the studio shouting some words to the music which Bowie thought sounded like "fame", and that inspired Bowie to write the lyrics. If it was not for Bowie's huge admiration for Lennon he would never have gotten any writing credits.

  • @ivankaramasov Wait a second now little lady! John did in fact share writers credit to this #1 U.S. hit. I don't quite think neither the great Bowie nor Lennon needed any inspiration from one another while in the studio 2gether. David did in fact love John but 4 u to think that Bowie did Lennon a favor or something is totally incorrect. Both men were true musical geniuses that could easily hold their own. However, u are completely naive to the sheer mental musical GREATNESS of SIR JOHN LENNON!

  • Why take the condescending tone when you obviously have no idea what you are talking about? My account is based on what Lennon himself stated in interviews. Carlos Alomar said in another interview that he did not think Lennon would have gotten any credits had he not been Lennon. And I never said Bowie did it as a favor. He did it because he admired Lennon and thought it was cool to have co-written something with him. And you claiming Lennon wrote this... LOL.

  • @ivankaramasov SWEETHEART! Let me teach you a little something about life. 1st of all, DON'T believe everything you read. 2nd, this guy carlos is probably soar cause he didn't get a certain amount of money he wanted from the song.3rd, John is not here in the flesh to defend himself from those accusations by Alomar. You merely speculate your thought on this matter. Paul or Yoko would probably know all the facts I'm sure Bowie would know all the details. U just had ur 15 mins of FAME! LOL

  • You are amazingly stupid so I am not going to argue with you, believe what you want. I know what the facts are. "This Carlos guy" was Bowie's musical right hand for several years by the wy.

  • @ivankaramasov Hey knuckleHEAD what up wit cha? Yeah babygirl I agree with U, it's stupid 2 argue over an issue that I know I'm right about. Ya see LOVE, if u were a musician like me then u would do ur homework 2 gather & collect the facts. Your boy Carlos was James Brown's employee b 4 Bowie hired him to play guitar. I don't have respect 4 anyone that bashes or lies on John Lennon, so carlos is a lying ass punk 2 talk shit about the Leader of The Beatles! Enough of dat baby, r U sexy like me?

  • You still haven't explained to me why Lennon would lie about his contribution. But hey, I don't expect anything rational to come from you anytime soon. Get some help with your mental problems. All the best!

  • how can anyone argue at all on music videos. wtf.

  • I wouldn't normally, but when someone makes totally unfounded and untrue claims, I think it is a good thing if someone corrects them.

  • Why the hell do U continue 2 attempt 2 bash the great John Lennon? Do you understand the word GENIUS? Well, earth 2 ivan! Lennon didn't have 2 fuckin' lie about any piece of music he wrote, don't U understand that? U sound like ur not a Beatles fan & if ur not then that explains ur attitude. John was a brilliant musician who played many instruments&wrote hundreds of songs. It's crazy 4 u 2 even think that he made no significant contributions to this song. Stop reading all those comic books dude!

  • You are right he made no significant contribution to this song. You still haven't explained to me why Lennon himself agreed. But I guess you would claim that he also was heavily involved writing Beethovens 9th symphony, so there is no hope for you.

  • What is the point of continuing to state this obvious lie?

  • @ivankaramasov DUDE! Quit HATIN" on John Lennon ur starting 2 PISS ME THE FUCK OFF! BOTTONLINE, Lennon IS IN FACT credited as a songwriter on fame! What the FUCK is the weather like in Norway anyway? U need 2 visit my great country called AMERICA so U can get some real EDUCATION!

  • Yes, he is credited as _one out of three_ writers. Only a complete idiot could make that into "Lennon wrote this song." Also, you keep evading the point that Lennon _himself_ stated that he had a very small part in writing it.

By the way, if you are so proud of being an American, you should try to learn your language that is the "BOTTONLINE". LOL. End of discussion.

  • Well it's about time u did ur homework U FUCKIN' Norweigan PRICK! Bet ya didn't know that I got "fighting Irish" in my blood, so don't let me get dirty & reveal my canine side! BOTTOMLINE, Lennon wrote the got damn song! FUCK U, ur boy carlos & the got damn horse u sons of bitches & daughters of bastards rode in on! END OF DISCUSSION! And I HAVE THE FUCKIN LAST WORD! Come and visit my country and get a TASTE of some REAL FREEDOM. U FUCKIN" IDIOT!!! LOL on dat MF!

  • Im laughing my ass off at you therealraybaby "FAME" as David Bowie recorded it was written by Sergio Mendes in 1953, for a skinny little mexican by the name of Carlos Santana. Carlos didn't think it was all that good and he pushed it off to a stunning singer named TINA TURNER in the early 60's. IKE thought it was crap and it was picked up by the most OVER-RATED band in history THE BEATLES, who Refused to play it. If it's schooling you want, I'm yer huckelberry KID.

  • Your confused. Bowie wrote this while he was drunk with Lennon.

  • Poor deluded lil monkeyboy. Get yer head out of Rolling Stone and spin and actually go live a rock and roll lifestyle. I came across this thread listening and studying what what pop posers did to music waaaaaaaaay out of their beaten path. Who here knows that Dolly Parton wrote a Pink Floyd song. If it's schooling ya want, I'm yer huckleberry KID.
