It was a proprietary locking/cover system for a ceiling light, it didn't help that I couldn't see it at all when I was taking it off. I still don't even know how to put the cover back on....

I think those "risers" or "brass things" are called stand-offs. They prevent the motherboard from bonding to the metal in a sick melted shit lasagna. In this case, it would be better if you not use computers, you tend to post videos on it.
