Holy shit! You mean you had the full weight of the Green Party of Canada behind your coalition, Stephie? Dang, you just changed my mind. Too bad your party suddenly regained confidence in the Harper Tories just weeks after you recorded this.
"The Harper Conservatives have lost the confidence of the majority of members of the House of Commons." Boy, it sure didn't take them long to regain it though, did it, Stephie?
Anyone see that red book spine behind him? The one with the yellow title. Can anyone tell me what it says? Further, can anyone tell me that its placement is coincidence?
That's a nice theory but I'm afraid it doesn't work. That book was the whole reason I tracked this video down. And if you think about it, if it was so damning, it wouldn't be impossible to have it pulled from the intertubes.
Coalition Governemnt is not going to fix the problem because they plan to install this BIG stimilus package into the Canadian economy, but they don't even know where the pressure points that are causing Canada to go into a recession are. So how exactly can they fix Canada?!?!
What is going to happen is that The Conservative is going to make a reasonable stimulus package and everyone is going to go home atleast satisfied enough to stop bitching.
The Liberal word should not be used in a government that wants everything to be as absolutely cheap as possible. Focusing on making the majority of the public do things like take public transit and live in very small , deadend homes , that have almost no ability to inspire anything but the reliance upon government. You can expect that you will be trained , but don't expect that you will benefit in any way that allows you to profit unless government is taking the lion's share every time.
Dion and the Liberal government have not even taken issues in Canada seriously , yet he talks about "worldwide" issues as if we have a responsibility elsewhere. He clearly is the type of man who will play around with your bank account to get control of you. Who really is the Nazi amongst this entire debate? It happens to be those who fear standing alone and showing what they really do for their country. USE IT !
I warned Canadians about this type of "JOB" reliance long ago. It was because I could see that Liberals like Dion would simply laugh about how they were seriously promissed , through high pay rates , that they would never be held accountable for any actions that they took , or failed to take. With promissed exemption from any prosecution , Dion laughs in our faces with no remorse or guilt. He , like many others concentrated on that being their platform and their religious practice.
Also, don't be fooled by the accusations that a coalition with the Bloc will leader to a constitutional crisis. If anything, a coalition including the Bloc will help to unite Quebec and the rest of Canada under a single flag at least until we have a comprehensive policy for the economic crisis. If you want a constitutional crisis, why not go apeshit and publicly shit talk the Bloc and their supporters for being evil separatists. Oh wait, Harper just did. Nice one sweater.
well there is news coming from Quebec that quebecers are getting sick of the Parti Quebecois. They are starting to lead more liberal. I would rather have Quebec Liberal than have them be separatists. In all actuality, The Bloc Quebecois by definition are traitors to Canada, but somehow they are not convicted as such. And for some reason, every time I think Parti Quebecois I think F.L.Q.
Well, from the looks of things Dion is stepping down effective immediately and Ignatieff will become the next Liberal leader. Not sure if it will be permanent or just interim till the Vancouver convention but he will probably be the new face of the party. Dion's showing an incredible amount of humility and he's getting out so we can have a Liberal party that stands a chance and can generate the support of the people.
Why would we want to seperate from Canada? We realized a long time ago that Quebec would make more money if we stayed with Canada. The Bloc's idea now is simply to keep ourselves a distinct canadian society.
Bloc voters don't want to seperate, they want sovereignty!
Just once I'd like to hear from someone who advocates "sovereignty" for Quebec: what does that mean and how would it be different than the status quo? As an Albertan, it sounds to me like a purely emotional cause based on cultural pride with no practical implications. Anyone?
No I don't understand, which is why I asked in the first place what the difference is between "separation" and "sovereignty". But clearly you don't either so I'll move along. Bonne chance ma petite grenouille.
I am sick to my stomach. Does that mean those who voted for the liberals were actually voting for the NDP and Bloc Quebecois as well? They should have been told that their votes were going to the NDP and separatist party (the Bloc has separation of Quebec from Canada in its party platform).
I'm sorry, but it is very difficult to understand what he is saying. The video quality is inexcusable and what's with the piece of wood that seems to be connected to his head?
Harper scored a brilliant one here. He had no majority and no prospects for one. So he outlines a budget that is sure to produce a coalition non-confidence vote (if they did nothing they would be hamstrung by the election funding removal). Dion bet his legacy on Jean dissolving parliament instead of another too-soon election. He lost. Harper has 6 more weeks to talk about back-room seperatist deals. No change in liberal leadership will happen. This one's Dion's to win or lose.
... so we can get a new party leader who can regain the confidence of the Liberals, the NDP allies and the general population. In the general elections, Canadians clearly said: "Dion is not the leader for us" handing the Liberals one of their worst defeats ever. It's a little bit cold, but the bottom line is that new leadership is required and Dion needs to get himself out of the spotlight as soon as possible.
Dion is a smart man with a powerful vision for the country. He just never learned how to play the political game as well as his predecessors (Chretien, Martin) and as such shouldn't be the party leader. He would make a great minister of the environment and should be involved in policy-making but he can't stand toe-to-toe with Harper. The fact that his own party is calling for his resignation is the proof of this. I think he's a smart man and I hope he will step down before Jan 26
While I agree that it is a bit of an over emphasis on form vs substance, think about it like this:
Who's more likely to get a job? Someone with awesome content in their CV but submits it without formatting, spell check and on crumpled paper, or the person who submits their resume that has slightly less quality content but has been polished. I would say that most cases, the second resume is successful. Polishing your work is a sign of commitment to excellence, which is something a PM needs.
Yeah, following Dion's English sometimes requires a double-take on certain words. But I think complaining about his verbal style and the video's technical quality is a misplaced emphasis on form over substance. We at least see Dion at a real WORKspace, not in a set more appropriate to comfy seasons greetings. Harper's hypocritical harping on the so-called "coalition with separatists" just made me want to puke.
The Liberal party would be wise to use this period over Christmas to pick a new leader to replace Dion. Ignatieff is ready to go. Throw together a quick leadership convention. Enable electronic voting. Give the candidates 2 weeks to run. If the economy is so important then these committed politicians are going to need to *gasp* work over Christmas holidays! Get Dion out, make the coalition work.
This video is a pretty serious let down. After the election Dion apologized for letting Harper paint him as incompetent. He said that Canadians never got a real chance to know him.
Well this time there's no one to blame but himself. As leader of Canada's most electorally successful party, there is no excuse for such poor quality, AND such a late release. Blame the cameraman all you want, what it all comes down to is Dion though.
We gave him a final chance to prove himself, and he blew it.
Here's what you Canadians should do, put a coin with the queens head on it between your feet, bend over as close to the coin as you can, then kiss your ass goodbye, your country is finished, Martin signed your sovereignty away when he signed the S.P.P with Bush and Fox in 2005
Sort of. It was THEIR freedom THEY SIGNED away. THEY "DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE" of the HIGH TREASON THEY committed.
Now if the People that know how to PRESS such CHARGES would do Their "f'n" JOBS Canada should be able to get back everything STOLEN these PAST 30 years, since P.M. Trudeau's demise.
You are absolutely right! While MP's through shit at each other like monkeys at the zoo, Canada is being sold like a naive runaway on a street corner by NAFTA, the SPP and Bills C-51 and C-52.
The whole world is screwed! It's only a matter of time before we are chipped like cattle and forced to serve the Beast.
What kind of a leader is it to make a video to address the nation using a $5 logitech webcam with a built-in mic and didn't even bother to edit out the timer beep at the end?
Coalition? Are you serious? This is death to Canada!! All who want our country split into 3 countries and the destruction of our Democracy as we know it, vote for the coalition!
did he just say stibulate? in my world its stimulate.lol..i think this move from the libs, ndp, and bloc was a short term political disaster, but long term enough that the next election will give the tories a majority. i guess it remains to be seen, but i hope my vote will mean something next time. because 3 parties just told all canadians who voted our current government in to power that it did not matter to them, and they will take controle anyways. a sad day to be canadian.
Blurry images? What a load of crap? My image is fine - oh perhaps I don't have a 3000 new super high-definintion crap TV. Who cares. And his english is perfect - there is not one word that cannot be understood. Bizarre lies. He has an accent - this confuses you - what are you a 2 year old?
4:48 he stumbles over the word significantly 3 times and still never pronounces it correctly! This guy gets 24% of the popular vote and wants to run our country?
I think SO. We're not Americans. We don't vote for a President. We vote for local representatives. Usually the leader of the party with the most seats is PM. We never directly vote for our PM. The current PM is failing to do his job and only has a minority of seats. The coalition has a majority of seats, and therefore the coalition's leader will be PM. Unless the Liberal party changes its leader, Dion could very well be our new Prime Minister. I doubt you're even fully bilingual.
Let me get this straight. The Liberals don't want this guy to lead their party, but they want us to accept him as our next PM? How ridiculous does that sound? Both Dion and Layton received less of the popular vote than Harper, yet they are in your opinion the voice for the majority of Canadians?
As for being bilingual or not, what are you implying? That only bilingual people have a right to vote? Only their vote counts? You are starting down a slippery slope.
Why are you talking like we're Americans? We don't have a "popular vote" for our Prime Minister. Notice how we don't even have a President? We vote for local representatives called MPs. The leader of the political party with the most MPs becomes Prime Minister. If parties join to form a coalition with a majority of seats, then the leader of the coalition becomes Prime Minister. Liberal + NDP + Bloc seats > Conservative seats.
Anyway, Dion will probably be gone soon. Be quiet.
Nothing is interesting now in Canada! Harper is shit liar and we have not really an awesome alternative! I will like someone as Obama now! USA have make a great choice. Someone else wanna be first minister in Canada? Send your name please!
Wow!! Listen to his rhetoric! Il m'a deja convancu! The green party supports you??? Don't say... what other democratic juggernaut? Maybe a party who got seats, like the bloque quebecois... haha certainly you support their agenda.
Dion thinks that a strange group of bedfellows will make a coalition? hardly
If anybody had an idea about how to fix the economy, then it'll all be fixed. But nobody knows what is going to happen in the future, so wouldnt it be safer to see what will happen rather then try something and worsen it. Harper did not lose the confidence by doing nothing, but by winning the election. You saw the oppositions trying to destroy him then, and it was unsuccessful and this is the only way they can do this now. They can't win alone. So they must destroy parliament itself.
overthrow the government and then let it go to another public vote so that we can decide who will run Canada. Some voted for Liberals so that the Bloc would not win in Quebec. Some voted NDP because they believed in Layton as their leader. Now if there are only two parties to choose from, I bet that the coalition will be loosing more votes than they will gain.
Cutting a deal with the Bloc, who called him a rat once, shows the integrity of this idiot. He showed up at Prime Minister Chretien's official residence years ago wearing a toque and a backpack, covered in snow from walking to 24 Sussex Drive. Chretien thought "my God what was I thinking"
It's time to dump the monarchy and become a republic!
You guys think Dion here is bad? Listen to the alternative, Stephen Harper! This guy has a funny accent, Harper is the most disgusting, horrifying force ever to take control of Canada.
