ALS (Anti lag system usually using a standalone ECU) lol 99% of the responses I have ever seen on a car video are crazy. So much misinformation!
This is done to build boost on the line. ALS are very tough on exhaust manifold and turbos and should only be done for a few seconds (unless you want to destroy your car).

The car is setup to run "rich" of fuel and therefore have more gas in the combustion chamber to burn at the moment.
You never want to run lean on a turbo car.
