If you want to measure the man watch him at Donington - 5th place at the start of lap one, on slicks, in the rain. By the end of that SAME lap he is first. Passing Hill, Schumacher and Prost in the process.
A 40 second masterclass in F1 driving skill and determination
Senna Forever, drive to perfection!
Sorry speaking portuguese, but i dont speak english very well.
Well, if they had counted ALL the points like they do today and not just the 11 best out of 16 races, then Prost would have been champion both in 1988 and 1989.
Senna drove to win in every single race, whereas Prost knew consistency was the key.
Many fail to realize Prost has 41 fastest race laps, whereas Senna has 19.
Jackie Stewart is statistically better than both Senna and Prost if races won compared to races contested ratio is counted. Let's not even mention Jim Clark.

@shoeme69 LMAO I'm not upset whatsoever about you personally rating Clark higher than Senna. Clark was a genius and the best that ever came from the UK. He also ALWAYS had the best car! It actually comes across as YOU not being the one accepting the fact that Senna is touted so highly amongst those who have actually DRIVEN in F1. Still like you said, everyone has their own opinions. It's just a shame some people whine and make stupid comparrisons when it's not their man getting the kudos.
ayrton senna.......the best 4 ever, nobody is the king......just senna....all people love this pilot.....The USA was have michael jackson....and brazil was have ayrton senna =]
@livebest2000 Are you serious man? Well... In my mind, Senna was only paying in the same way that Prost did with him one year before.
The most spetacular thing about Senna was his unique way of driving u know? He was very agressive like some others drivers like Mansell, Piquet and Prost, it's unfortunately that we don't have that kind of races anymore and only those boring things that formula one had become nowadays
Btw... Talking about Dirty, i think on Schumascher
@Diogopam I also seem to recall that it was Prost who actually turned in on Senna the year afterwards. Prost never got the stick for what he did in 1989 because he was seen as this good guy.
Because here in Brazil, Senna is a Hero, and lost him was a tragedy in our Brazilians Heart. We Breathed Senna in 90' times. All explained in BBC Top Gear programm, we Brazilians know better than all other guys in the world. But I think its good for so many other people know how is senna really.
@shoeme69 LMAO so that's what this is all about huh? You cant handle the fact that many people Pick Senna over Clark? You quote Senna about his nethew, yet miss out ALL the other quotes from passed greats about Senna LOL. All that this boils down to is the FACT that you cant handle the whole 'Senna is the greatest' debate. GROW UP.
@shoeme69 LMAO DONT JUDGE ALL SENNA FANS BY YOUR STANDARDS, not all of us hated Schumacher, but seen as HE has actually driven a race car and the OTHER DRIVERS who've said great things about Senna, I'd sooner listen to them because they know better than anyone. Sterling Moss said there was only one other driver on par with Senna, and that was Fangio. And again I'd sooner listen to an EX F1 DRIVER as opposed to some biased net idiot. So get over yourself and get a life.
@longeassim lol totally agree. Senna was as he was and some just cant accept the FACT that Senna was a better driver then the guys they support. It's pathetic really.
@shoeme69 LMAO keep the insults coming boy, you are just showing how pathetic and childish you are. Your nothing more than a jelous idiot who likes to rubbish the talent of a racing legend. Get over yourself. Mikka was blown out of the water, 65 poles compared to Mikka's 26, no contest. And Senna beat the better drivers! So stop with the DUMB comparrisons. Like I said, given a choice between listening to people LIKE YOU and people like SCHUMACHER I know who I'd sooner listen to LOL.
Oh yeah @shoeme69 one more thing for you masterful argument, how many races did Senna win against Mikka as team mates? Mikki joined Senna for the last 3 races, Senna won 2 out of the 3. Where was Mikki? He was BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER by Senna! So what if he outqualified him ONCE, he was destroyed by Senna in the races. So get over yourself, and by the way Jim Clark does not have God like talent, he's dead as well. You cant even get that right lol. I rest my case.
Fact is SENNA critics he was a genius, and in the wet he was the master. Only his death stopped him from acheaving even more. Given a choice between listening to half of you debate about Senna, or listening to people like 7 times world champion Schumacher on the subject, I know who I'd sooner listen to lol. He said Senna was N01, and that's good enough for me!
@shoeme69@shoeme69 LMAO and how many times did they race together in the same team? And how many times did they race in the same era in different teams? Senna beat the likes of Nelson Piquet, Nikki Lauda, Alain Prost to name a few greats! It's pretty obvious that you are biased and blatently ignore the facts about Senna. He was a great driver, get over it.
@shoeme69 its sad that people can't accept that someone has a true talent, and due to their own jealousy claim their skill and achievements are over-hyped or worthless.
@shoeme69 You mention the McLaren having driving aids but ignore the fact that the other cars had it, and furthermore that the Williams has been said to be the most technologically advanced car ever in Formula 1. Then take Prost and Hill, 5 World Championships between them, and put them in the cars -- Senna passed them both in less than a lap, also after passing Schumacher, a 7 time World Champion.
@nismo007 Bruno actually drove one of his uncle's old Mclarens at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year... That said, I think it's equally appropriate to have Lewis drive the car, as he's not only someone that grew up idolizing Ayrton (just look at the color of his helmet!), he is also a world champion for Mclaren so his awe and joy at being able to drive that Mp4/4 is even more meaningful IMO.
@waterpolodan@nismo007 yea ok bruno drove the mp4-4 at goodwood, how many people saw that 2000-3000? this is going to near it makes no difference 350million, a tribute to someone should always include someone from his/her family, he would of talked about his uncle, he would of told jc and the world an inside story about his uncle, i rather hear that then hamilton giggling like a little girl driving the legend's car, i don't hate hamilton, but just thought wrong person to have
@TheGumball4once according to wiki, he has the yellow helmet so his father could identify him when he was driving karts. having hamilton to talk like the other f1 drivers is fine, but for a tribute to Ayrton, not having bruno there at all, is kinda an insult to bruno.
@nismo007 Aparently Bruno was interviewed by Top Gear. He said something about how Ayrton could calculate tyre pressures in his head. But obviously, he did not make the final edit. It said this on the top gear blog that he was going to be in the tribute, but wasnt included.
@nismo007 yer i see where your comin from mate, but as the bbc is british and the main audience is also british, i think havin hamilton makes for better TV
@nismo007 Bruno has driven his uncle's cars on several occasions, most recently at Goodwood this year. I was very touched by Lewis and Jenson's humility and genuine appreciation of Senna and the 4/4 in a McLaren video you will also find here on YouTube. I'm glad Lewis had the chance to live his dream of driving it. A very nice tribute from him.

I was glad to see Lewis live his dream and have a chance to drive the 4/4. A very nice tribute from him and from Top Gear.
@nismo007 I think, after reading Hamilton's biography, that he has a genuine admiration for Ayrton Senna. Senna inspired him and you can see that in his style, on and off the track. Hamilton also has a F1 World Championship in his curriculum, he is already part of the hall of fame. Not to say that he from England, just like TopGear show. I believe the choice was correct: two brilliant F1 drivers, Senna and Hamilton.
@nismo007 Plus its to do with holders rights. Mclaren car so its easier to put a mclaren driver in it. I agree that it would be nice for Bruno to drive it, at the end of the day, Ayrton himself said that Bruno was faster than him.
@nismo007 i think bruno would be to obvious of a choice, to chose the best current drive, a champion, from a racing country like england with their great idols to do so i think its a lot more significative. thats how i (a brazilian) feel
@oimpiedoso the people going with hamilton are one eyed british fools, if michael jackson had a tribute, would you want his kids to say something about him or chris brown who idolized him. That was my point, not having bruno was an insult, AYRTON LEGEND!
@nismo007 i think it would of been more fitting for Hamilton to drive it then Bruno, why? because Hamilton however much you dislike him, is probably the best driver on the grid and was an unrelated fan of Senna, hell Hamilton styled his driving completely on Senna and Senna was Hamiltons Hero. Bruno Senna isnt as accomplished as his uncle and the fact Hamilton likened his helmet to Sennas tops it off
@FRAFPDD you idiot, i said i have nothing against hamilton, he is a fantastic f1 driver,i support him the most, but i thought for a tribute to ayrton bruno would of been better, stop being a one eye british fuck and look at the bigger picture, when doing a tribute a close family member can be the difference between a good tribute and a amazing one.
@nismo007 Dont hate me cause im British, its not my fault im from the best country in the world. I see your profile doesnt let me know where your from, wonder why that is.....
@shoeme69 Hakkinen did indeed outqualify Senna....er...just ONCE lol. How many times after that did he do it and how many times did Hakkinen finish ahead of Senna that year? Mikka was not in the same league.
Best F1 driver ever (100% focus, 100% human, 100% horry about the safety of everyone, 90% of F1 die in May, 1st 1994, After just fast drivers, nothing more.
I stood right next to the MP4/4 at Goodwood this year. Can't begin to imagine what Hamilton felt while driving it. I'd have loved to have done the same.
This was bar far the quietest the studio has every been at the ending of any Top Gear program, with the except for Series 13, but that was just a film to end the series. Ayrton really was great and I have to say I agree with Jeremy. There maybe other spectacular drivers, but no one was as spectacular every time they got or get into a car than Ayrton Senna. I was only 4 when he died, but I'm happy to say he truly was the best. Long live Ayrton Senna.

It's just a shame some people whine and make stupid comparrisons when it's not their man getting the kudos.

ayrton senna was ungentlemanly.
he was dirty driver..
livebest2000 1 year ago
@livebest2000 Are you serious man? Well... In my mind, Senna was only paying in the same way that Prost did with him one year before.
The most spetacular thing about Senna was his unique way of driving u know? He was very agressive like some others drivers like Mansell, Piquet and Prost, it's unfortunately that we don't have that kind of races anymore and only those boring things that formula one had become nowadays
Btw... Talking about Dirty, i think on Schumascher
Diogopam 1 year ago 2
@Diogopam I also seem to recall that it was Prost who actually turned in on Senna the year afterwards. Prost never got the stick for what he did in 1989 because he was seen as this good guy.

different from TV Globo, the BBC was not speaking extensively Senna's death, but showed how good he was as a pilot.
tribute of respect and good taste, too exciting.
and the words of Clarkson at the end were perfect.

Because here in Brazil, Senna is a Hero, and lost him was a tragedy in our Brazilians Heart. We Breathed Senna in 90' times. All explained in BBC Top Gear programm, we Brazilians know better than all other guys in the world. But I think its good for so many other people know how is senna really.

rnrgod 1 year ago
@rnrgod Eu adorava os Mamonas...eram incríveis. Entendo sim.
godsmackssa 1 year ago

@shoeme69 LMAO so that's what this is all about huh? You cant handle the fact that many people Pick Senna over Clark? You quote Senna about his nethew, yet miss out ALL the other quotes from passed greats about Senna LOL. All that this boils down to is the FACT that you cant handle the whole 'Senna is the greatest' debate. GROW UP.
sabred78 1 year ago
@shoeme69 LMAO DONT JUDGE ALL SENNA FANS BY YOUR STANDARDS, not all of us hated Schumacher, but seen as HE has actually driven a race car and the OTHER DRIVERS who've said great things about Senna, I'd sooner listen to them because they know better than anyone. Sterling Moss said there was only one other driver on par with Senna, and that was Fangio. And again I'd sooner listen to an EX F1 DRIVER as opposed to some biased net idiot. So get over yourself and get a life.

Like I said, given a choice between listening to people LIKE YOU and people like SCHUMACHER I know who I'd sooner listen to LOL.
sabred78 1 year ago
Oh yeah @shoeme69 one more thing for you masterful argument, how many races did Senna win against Mikka as team mates? Mikki joined Senna for the last 3 races, Senna won 2 out of the 3. Where was Mikki? He was BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER by Senna! So what if he outqualified him ONCE, he was destroyed by Senna in the races. So get over yourself, and by the way Jim Clark does not have God like talent, he's dead as well. You cant even get that right lol. I rest my case.
sabred78 1 year ago
Fact is SENNA critics he was a genius, and in the wet he was the master. Only his death stopped him from acheaving even more. Given a choice between listening to half of you debate about Senna, or listening to people like 7 times world champion Schumacher on the subject, I know who I'd sooner listen to lol. He said Senna was N01, and that's good enough for me!
sabred78 1 year ago
@shoeme69 @shoeme69 LMAO and how many times did they race together in the same team? And how many times did they race in the same era in different teams? Senna beat the likes of Nelson Piquet, Nikki Lauda, Alain Prost to name a few greats! It's pretty obvious that you are biased and blatently ignore the facts about Senna. He was a great driver, get over it.

@ljw571 yea but this is a tribute to his uncle, and no better having a nephew talking and driving a car of a Brilliant Legend
nismo007 1 year ago 2
@nismo007 Bruno actually drove one of his uncle's old Mclarens at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year... That said, I think it's equally appropriate to have Lewis drive the car, as he's not only someone that grew up idolizing Ayrton (just look at the color of his helmet!), he is also a world champion for Mclaren so his awe and joy at being able to drive that Mp4/4 is even more meaningful IMO.
waterpolodan 1 year ago
@waterpolodan @nismo007 yea ok bruno drove the mp4-4 at goodwood, how many people saw that 2000-3000? this is going to near it makes no difference 350million, a tribute to someone should always include someone from his/her family, he would of talked about his uncle, he would of told jc and the world an inside story about his uncle, i rather hear that then hamilton giggling like a little girl driving the legend's car, i don't hate hamilton, but just thought wrong person to have

@nismo007 true, but y do u think Hamilton races with a yellow helmet, and y does Hamilton always mention his hero Ayrton Senna
TheGumball4once 1 year ago
@TheGumball4once according to wiki, he has the yellow helmet so his father could identify him when he was driving karts. having hamilton to talk like the other f1 drivers is fine, but for a tribute to Ayrton, not having bruno there at all, is kinda an insult to bruno.
nismo007 1 year ago
@nismo007 Aparently Bruno was interviewed by Top Gear. He said something about how Ayrton could calculate tyre pressures in his head. But obviously, he did not make the final edit. It said this on the top gear blog that he was going to be in the tribute, but wasnt included.

I believe the choice was correct: two brilliant F1 drivers, Senna and Hamilton.
eanselmi 1 year ago
If Hamilton was a true fan he would have declined driving that car as a sign of respect.
The only man that should ever drive that car, is Bruno
rockyfroggy 1 year ago
@nismo007 Plus its to do with holders rights. Mclaren car so its easier to put a mclaren driver in it. I agree that it would be nice for Bruno to drive it, at the end of the day, Ayrton himself said that Bruno was faster than him.
lewiscmbrit 1 year ago
@nismo007 i think bruno would be to obvious of a choice, to chose the best current drive, a champion, from a racing country like england with their great idols to do so i think its a lot more significative. thats how i (a brazilian) feel
oimpiedoso 1 year ago
@oimpiedoso the people going with hamilton are one eyed british fools, if michael jackson had a tribute, would you want his kids to say something about him or chris brown who idolized him. That was my point, not having bruno was an insult, AYRTON LEGEND!
nismo007 1 year ago
@nismo007 i think it would of been more fitting for Hamilton to drive it then Bruno, why? because Hamilton however much you dislike him, is probably the best driver on the grid and was an unrelated fan of Senna, hell Hamilton styled his driving completely on Senna and Senna was Hamiltons Hero. Bruno Senna isnt as accomplished as his uncle and the fact Hamilton likened his helmet to Sennas tops it off
