The Folks in Byrdstown deserve to be proud Ive been playing for a very long time and Sierra is the real deal a true musician true to the form and art! Bess you Sierra and may you bless us with your talent
It's so refreshing to see a real talent among the young, and someone who has worked to achieve her level of success. With the Lohan's, and Hilton's and other wastrels on the front pages....you start to lose hope. But to see Sierra Hull, who is a reflection of the essential goodness and excellent character of the people from her part of America (I'm from Pa...so I'm referring to those people who inhabit the "blue grass" gives me hope for the future not only of real music, but our youth.
its so good to see the young generation carrying on the music that i love . sierra... you will go very far in life . that i know! just keep on pickin and singing. bluegrass rules !
Indeed. She is quite brilliant, even better now a days. That video is a wee bit old. I think she is around nineteen that one. I am not for certain. But one cannot deny she is brilliant, and will only advance still further.
Sierra is wonderful and so humble. When she was 8, she was in my 3rd grade class. After she had taken mandolin lessons for 2 months, she asked to play for the class. I wasn't thinking that this would be the greatest talent in music that I had ever taught. When she got through the first 4 measures my mouth was hanging open. I was totally in awe of her ability. She played very fast songs which is not typical of a beginner. She's a super person and Byrdstown people are very proud of her!!!
WOW ! I went to see Sierra tonight 09/06/2008at Isothermal CC in Spindale , NC . She and her band were the warm up band for Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinchfield Mtn. Boys !Sierra is much better in person than on youtube !!! Prettier too !! She was fantastic , an unbelievable talent ! It was a priviledge to watch her play in person !!
I love to see He and Alison Krauss helping bring up younger ones who are gifted, I think she produced Nickel Creek and now He's helping Sierra get started. I'm a musician and have decided to start getting the gifted young ones under my "musical" wing, so seeing this was moving to me.
I featured Sierra on the Fitzgrass radio show this past friday...along with The Infamous Stringdusters. It was fun because I got to feature a girl with a lot of talent that enjoys playing bluegrass music. It makes it so much more fun doing a bluegrass show when you know that the talent will continue onward.
I have the cd i DEFENTLY recommend it...... ITS AMAZING~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sierra and Ron and everyone who has worked on this record has done an AMAZING job !!!!
The first one I ever saw her with was a Gibson F5 (The Gibson), But I've also seen her with a Weber (The Weber), and an acoustic electric mando, probably a Gibson, also saw her with an Epiphone Firebird solidbody electric mando. Probably the Weber in this vid.
My bad, man. I meant to say Epiphone Mandobird V-III, I got the Gibson Firebird guitar and the mando names mixed up lol. The Epiphone Mandobird has 4 strings. The Mandobird V-III has 8. I Only saw her with it once, never heard it played.
Well I'm not a salesman hah, But the only production model Archtop guitar that comes to mind is a Gretsch G100 Synchromatic, the list price is $850.00 but you can probably get it for 6. The only Mandola that comes to mind is a Michael Kelly, they're over 1 grand.
Thanks for posting this video. My hubby and I have been watching videos of Sierra for some years now. We knew she would make it big! The debut album is fantastic. I wish her much success in bluegrass and look forward to seeing her. If she's looking for a fan club President, SIGN ME UP! 8-) Blessings for much success and prosperity Sierra. You truly deserve it.

I really enjoyed this vid, such a talented young lady, with a real down-to-earth attitude.
Very refreshing in this age of plastic pop "celebrities".
Long may she continue to produce great music.

Sierra produces, you pontificate. Those who can do, those who can't criticize. A wrinkle on an old quote.

Yeah. You sound like an OLD WRINKLE !

You should also look up Adam Steffey and Chris Thile if you havn't heard them. They are unbelievible mandolin players

Don't forget to add Sam Bush and David Grisman. They set the standard as far as I'm concerned, at least among their generation.

found Ms. Hull right here on youtube! What a debut!!! What
will she do for an encore? Her voice is stunning!! Well done,
bravo to Sierra, Ron and everybody...too bad these players
won't be in her band (unless she tours with Alison Krauss).
Never mind, she can play solo for all I care....sublime!!!!
ps...Alison could use a mando.....

That's allright. I do the same thing all the time. While i'm on the topic, what would a mandola or an archtop guitar cost?
