actually I think she's great and her pronounciation is very good.
just a mistake when she sings "per non morire al primo incontro" which sounded like "per non morOre", but the pitch was quite high and maybe it's the only reason why the pronounciation of that "i" sounds so difficult.
Commenting on my own post -- I don't mean to imply that anything Puccini did detracts from the quality, the beauty of the work. It's magnificent. It's performed and loved around the world and people will still be weeping at the fate of Cio Cio San a century from now. On a personal note, i spent 3 years in Vietnam. I met more sad Butterflies in Saigon than one could imagine. In some cases Pinkerton did return and marry his once-abandoned love, there really was un bel di. I did.
Wonderful performance by a woman with an angelic voice! I've heard this aria more times than I can count (I first herd it 50 years ago) and this was one of the most beautiful, most moving renditions. A few points: Puccini based the opera on an American play, based in turn on a novel by JL Long, which may have been based on a French story. Pinkerton and Sharpless are much more Italian than American. Puccini knew no English and infused his characters with Italianate manners and ways.
Great performance in one of the most beatiful aria of my favorite composer Giacomo Puccini I'm proud to be italian like him!! great genius!! grazie Giacomo Viva l'Italia
I would love to be able to download this. This is the best version of Un Bel Di Vedremo I have ever heard. It made me weep, because I could feel Cio-Cio san's longing. Absolutely wonderful!

Firstly I have and still find from time to time a singer who shines in a differing light to the others. The music although the same sometimes the artist manages to amplify the meaning and feeling within the piece to a higher degree and therefore makes it her own with the inner light of expressing the emotions that are meant. I have for the first time listened to this voice and at 71 I can say I was moved the interpritation was much more in keeping with the cultural setting. Thank you so much.
her movements look westernised because Giacomo Puccini wrote Madama Butterfly on a japanese story, but the opera is Italian and if you performe that kind of opera like, for example, the Kabuki it will not be more an italian opera but something fake.
If you want to be shure of that look for the Butterfly's video made in La Scala in Milano with the japanese soprano Hayashi and you will see that the stage director, Keita Asari, wanted her to make perfect japanese movements but the result was very cold and without soul.
I'm very happy that you are interested to my wife Mika, I'm a tenor and an Opera Orchestra Conductor, and I will be happy to share with you our feelings.
So you call any Japanese "darling"? AND you are taking about Madame Butterfly while you are married to one....yuuuuuck. Now I wonder if I'm pround of her compariot.
Oh really a magnificant performance. Great voice and acting, she has a natural "glamour" for these arts. I wish that someday I could sing with you, Giovanni and Mika; ^_^ oh really it's a beautiful dream. So I'll keep studying and giving my best in this
I have listened to lots of perfomings of this area, and for me the most impressive is the final note, which anyway, comes at its best from Montserrat Caballe and Mika Mori
that¨s right, I¨ve heard like 100 sopranos, that can not sing this first note clear, is really hard, it¨s a F sharp, right in the passaggio!!, and still she does it perfectly.
Beautiful. Moving. What more can I say?

Hi, this aria is so great, but so sad too, anyway could you tell me what's the meaning of 'l'aspetto' and westernised ? thanks
donjuliocorralejo 2 years ago 2
Dear Don Julio,
thanks for your interess in Mika Mori.
L' aspetto means - I'm waiting for him
Westernised means in english something not oriental, much more like the west.
If you need anything else just ask us.
palmierigb 2 years ago
I'm a Japanese et I'm very impressed by this aria. In fact, l'aspetto is excellent !
But her gests are a little too westernised for me. How about her pronounciation of Italien for you?
Neverthless, I'm so proud of being her compatriot ! Her voice is vigorous!

Koniciwa darling,

She is fabulous, is this avaiable on DVD?
I love Callas, Tebaldi, Te Kanawa, and Freni, but she is just so different.
Not that she is better than them, no, she just contains points that they don't, though they do contain points she doesn't too.
But this is one of the most beautiful version I have ever seen.
