  • Beautiful. Moving. What more can I say?

  • Música linda! P ti Sol.

  • This is the best rendition I've ever heard <3 Just amazing, perfection really!

  • mika mori in italiano è bellissimo

  • actually I think she's great and her pronounciation is very good.

just a mistake when she sings "per non morire al primo incontro" which sounded like "per non morOre", but the pitch was quite high and maybe it's the only reason why the pronounciation of that "i" sounds so difficult.

    anyway, great singer, no doubt.

  • Commenting on my own post -- I don't mean to imply that anything Puccini did detracts from the quality, the beauty of the work. It's magnificent. It's performed and loved around the world and people will still be weeping at the fate of Cio Cio San a century from now. On a personal note, i spent 3 years in Vietnam. I met more sad Butterflies in Saigon than one could imagine. In some cases Pinkerton did return and marry his once-abandoned love, there really was un bel di. I did.

  • Wonderful performance by a woman with an angelic voice! I've heard this aria more times than I can count (I first herd it 50 years ago) and this was one of the most beautiful, most moving renditions. A few points: Puccini based the opera on an American play, based in turn on a novel by JL Long, which may have been based on a French story. Pinkerton and Sharpless are much more Italian than American. Puccini knew no English and infused his characters with Italianate manners and ways.

  • I'm sorry for you, MAAK 95, but she is my wife and I know her name.

    MIKA MORI

  • @palmierigb anyone know who did the singing for Shirley Mc Clane in the movie My Geisha?

  • Bravissima

  • A great singer with perfect resonance.

  • molto brava

  • wowow Maki... Que diera por escucharle en vivo!!

  • very beautiful rendition, and so nice to have a japanese singer! i wish her makeup and hair wasnt so awful....to have the perfect canvas for geisha makeup and come out with that... tsk tsk tsk

  • SSSUPEERRR!!!!!

  • the way that she hits the crescendo of the song made me just start sobbing...absolutely incredible!!!

Would like to know more about her

  • brava

  • Wonderful!!!

  • Firstly I have and still find from time to time a singer who shines in a differing light to the others. The music although the same sometimes the artist manages to amplify the meaning and feeling within the piece to a higher degree and therefore makes it her own with the inner light of expressing the emotions that are meant. I have for the first time listened to this voice and at 71 I can say I was moved the interpritation was much more in keeping with the cultural setting. Thank you so much.

  • i saw this in Houston when i was 11 or 10! I LOVED IT!

  • Brava!

She is so talented that I ended up sobbing towards the end of the aria. Thank you for sharing.

    Grazie mille!

  • her voice, expressions and all evoke tears!!! this is fantastic, thank you for posting it!!

  • Sehr gut!!!!! Schöne große Stimme!!!!

  • Poignant in sound and sight

  • Hi, this aria is so great, but so sad too, anyway could you tell me what's the meaning of 'l'aspetto' and westernised ? thanks

  • Dear Don Julio,

thanks for your interess in Mika Mori.

L' aspetto means - I'm waiting for him

Westernised means in english something not oriental, much more like the west.

If you need anything else just ask us.

  • I'm a Japanese et I'm very impressed by this aria. In fact, l'aspetto is excellent !

But her gests are a little too westernised for me. How about her pronounciation of Italien for you?

Neverthless, I'm so proud of being her compatriot ! Her voice is vigorous!

  • Koniciwa darling,

    you are right,

her movements look westernised because Giacomo Puccini wrote Madama Butterfly on a japanese story, but the opera is Italian and if you performe that kind of opera like, for example, the Kabuki it will not be more an italian opera but something fake.

  • If you want to be shure of that look for the Butterfly's video made in La Scala in Milano with the japanese soprano Hayashi and you will see that the stage director, Keita Asari, wanted her to make perfect japanese movements but the result was very cold and without soul.

I'm very happy that you are interested to my wife Mika, I'm a tenor and an Opera Orchestra Conductor, and I will be happy to share with you our feelings.

    Arigatougozaimas,

    Giovanni Battista Palmieri

  • @palmierigb

So you call any Japanese "darling"? AND you are taking about Madame Butterfly while you are married to one....yuuuuuck. Now I wonder if I'm pround of her compariot.

  • @jeannepoisson I'm italian, the pronunciation is acceptable :)

  • that was the most outstanding 'l'aspetto' i have EVER heard.

  • niente male!

  • beautiful! Where was this performed?

  • In Beograd, Serbia,

    thanks for your interess

  • A BIG UP TO MIKA MORI....WICKED!!!!

  • wow that made me fuckin cry lmao

  • Me too. This piece is so moving and beautiful, I love it. <3!

  • Perfect

  • Amazing performance!

I wish I had the chance to see this!

  • Oh really a magnificant performance. Great voice and acting, she has a natural "glamour" for these arts. I wish that someday I could sing with you, Giovanni and Mika; ^_^ oh really it's a beautiful dream. So I'll keep studying and giving my best in this

  • Finally, a Japanese singer performing Cio-Cio-san! And a great singer!

  • i'm in love with this song and she is the best i've ever seen.

  • That is rather stunning.

  • This part always makes me cry, without fail. Even if I'm just thinking about it.

  • What a performance! so moving! actually had tears in my eyes! just beautiful!

  • FABULOUS!!! Absolutely fabulous!!!

  • that was breathtaking, i couldnt help but cry, thankyou so much for posting this.

  • Magnificent! Could only be compared with Kabaivanska!

  • Simply magnificent.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • very pretty

  • Amazing, simply... amazing. Thanks for posting this video.

I hope to see more parts of this operah. Best wishes from Argentina,

  • I don't think I have heard a better version of "Un Bel Di" than this one.

  • Pucinni's 'Un bel di' is a Tsunami that is guaranteed to raise all boats and Mika Mori manages that nicely...

  • Her voice has a rich, honey-like quality to it.

  • ...it's kinda like real life!

  • Last note is awesome! Brava

  • I have listened to lots of perfomings of this area, and for me the most impressive is the final note, which anyway, comes at its best from Montserrat Caballe and Mika Mori

  • Glorius! BRAVA!

  • Glorious is the only apt description of this performance!

  • bravo.

  • i had a recording of miko singing un bel di vedremo and it's great to see her in action. thanks!

  • tears tears tears sweet tears of emotion !!!

  • I cry every time I watch this...this is the best interpretation of this song I have ever seen. :)

  • Please somebody up load the complete opera in video

  • Grand Dieu, merci pour cette merveille!

    Je pleure d'émotion.

  • my god, BEAUTIFUL!

  • Great clip! Can you post the death scene? Thanks!

  • wow!she's great!amazing voice & perfect Italian actually!!!

  • aww geezz

  • wowsers...that is amazing!

  • Agreeing with Drelnis. It's so cool to see/hear a Japanese sings this role. There's a strange dignity to it.. not just being tragic. Wonderful.

  • That was beautiful.

  • Brava!

  • She is fabulous, is this avaiable on DVD?

I love Callas, Tebaldi, Te Kanawa, and Freni, but she is just so different.

Not that she is better than them, no, she just contains points that they don't, though they do contain points she doesn't too.

But this is one of the most beautiful version I have ever seen.

  • her voice has a honey-like quality...there's a thickness to it, in addition to being very sweet.

  • the very first entrance in the aria was immaculate.

  • that¨s right, I¨ve heard like 100 sopranos, that can not sing this first note clear, is really hard, it¨s a F sharp, right in the passaggio!!, and still she does it perfectly.

  • Brava!

  • Brava. Fantastic lyric soprano sound. An ideal Butterfly.

  • bravo, bellisimo

  • terrific.....only an oriental sprano should sing this part to give full impact as this young lady does..

  • Bravo

  • Excellent! And she doesn't have to spend too much time in make-up!

  • bravissima!

  • muy hermoso, le kedo bien interpretacion voz ja le falt aun poco mas peor en general me gusto

  • gracias, muchas gracias. Divina!!!!

  • wow something about her voice just sounds awesome, i like it.

  • She sounds very nice. Pretty voice. I like her low a lot too.

  • oh god por dios santo me he quedado anonadado i'm astonished

  • Bellísimo cuanto hace que quería disfrutar de esta opera maravillosa, un deleite a los oídos y al corazon..
