So long as there's no visible number count after my name anywhere in-game, and it's simply an under-the-hood deal to keep track of my own personal character then I'm fine with that.

And it's more like IRL this way: People can name their children after others before them without some explicit law or ordinance forbidding it.

However, I do think that a name should be unique to each account unless there's some sort of variance in spelling or an additional "Jr." or "Sr." added to avoid confusion.

You will get a random character code at the end of a name. I don't think it works like force001 and force002 it might be force981 even if you are the 1st force to make a name. that way people don't feel the need to reroll if you are force002.

A) No, not at all. No one has gotten beta keys yet as Force has clearly stated in just about all of these vids.

B) Even if you don't get in on the first round due to the expected high attrition of player interest in the beta more keys will go out in subsequent waves (again, as Force has said in a previous video).

Since he's already stated these things I have to assume you just don't understand. There's not much, pretty much just wait. You'll probably get a key.

Force, you have covered a lot of stuff over Diablo 3 from characters, bnet features, animations, names, community site, and so much more. I have yet to hear about soundtrack and instrumental. Everyone knows how nostalgic listening to Tristram village can be or any of the "in-town" music. It brings me almost 10 yrs back, those epic nights playing in the dark. It really created a unique atmosphere to the diablo series. That is something I will be paying attention to. Do you know anything?

Coming up with a cool/funny name for a character was, at least for me, a part of D2.

If the community is that lazy when it comes to creativity, i suggest we are going to have a D3 community full of lazy and boring named characters.

The motivation for this non-unique naming system has pretty much nothing to do with creativity. It has to do with getting the name you want.

I've seen someone musing about a generalization just about as ignorant as yours with something like: "all the stupid WoW kids coming to D3 will make the community stupid and childish."

That notion is just as foolish and baseless as yours. :P

Oh and I'm right there with you thinking of fun and creative names. My DK in WoW was Kausway (origin: Koshchei the Immortal), a variation of the name of an evil Russian mythological character known as the birth of the lich concept.

What I'm trying to get at though is that this doesn't mean anything about the general player base. Have a non-unique naming system means as much about the names you'll see in D3 as does some moron's opinion of WoW means about the players of D3. Nothing

Yeah, sure. My point is that the system Blizzard chooses to use for controlling character naming has very little to do with the names you're going to see in game. Your original comment seemed to reflect negatively on this name management system because its going to allow players to pick Sephiroth and Sin 100x over.

I think the naming system is great and I think the idea of stupid names being enabled by the system is mute and invalid, that shouldn't be considered as a pro or con.

This is good to know info on the name. I think it will help when people pick their name. Because you might see 100 people named AxeBarb in the game. I know how original you people like to name your characters. But This will just encourage me to find a more unique name to choose. You will not see the numbers in game or in chat or anything like that. They are more or less hidden and are only used when adding someone to your friends list or looking them up, etc.

So if you wanted to add me to your friends list you could expect to have to do something like what is done in SC2.

1. Enter Characters Name: "Force"

2. Enter Characters Code: "001"

But if you saw me in game or in a lobby or chat channel, you wouldn't see Force001, you would just see Force.

My nick is really unique in itself i've never seen anyone else use it anywhere so i don't have to worry about it being taken but i have to say i do not like the name system they are using. If you have a cool name and you like it then you also want to be the only one using that name. And if it's a really popular name it also proves that your probably started playing early which i find cool in some ways. You want all the E-fame you can get and you don't want hundreds of players with the same name.

Every name needs to be different like in WoW. If not, everyone will be named like Blizzard or Diablo. Trust me, it will be lame. Also, it will be easier for people to look up yourself or others on the armory.

I agree with the naming scheme. It allows everyone, especially the later game purchasers, to have a chance to name their character whatever the hell they want. See my own Youtube name for example of being forced to add numbers to my name.
