  • The Jackson Five did this song a lot of justice... check it out

  • That lead blues guitar is deadly down the stretch....Funk Brother specialty.

  • i, was 13 when my mother came home from shopping and this was the first album ,pyschedelic shack to start my collection,

    thanks mom.

  • That was not a scat pattern that Otis was doing, that was a chant.

  • like if you know the scat patterns by heart. or is that just me ?

  • @FANNINGIII That is really not a scat. A scat is something like with Micheal Jackson has done in his epic version of "State of Shock" with Mitch Jagger in the 80's. Most scat is different pitches that the artist do to the rhythm of a song. This style of vocalization has been around since our grandfathers and great grandfathers listened to the music in their days. This style of vocalization is normally in jazz and everyone really cannot pull it off. It is rare that words are in a scat pattern.

  • THE PURE FUNK.

  • I love the ending chords to this song: "Come man, Take a Drag, Don't be Afraid, It Won't Hurt You!! (Otis Williams). He chants this over and over again which made the song even more political sounding. Then it goes straight into "Take a Stroll Thru Your Mind". I am still looking for this album or CD so that I can get these two songs together, but unfortunately, I believe it is out of print

  • @hosgeldinez4 The Album you can download from iTunes is Psychedelic Shack. If they don't have it, you can download Psychedelic Soul. That's their greatest hits double album that features Dennis Edwards as Lead Singer on all the songs from this Double Album.

  • Old school soul... gotta love it...

  • Good old Disco ...

  • where is part 2?

  • @ochogritos7929

Check out my video response. "Take A Stroll Thru Your Mind" is the second part to this song.

  • it's not a question of who's version or better. Norman Whitfield was taking them and Motown a whole new direction. This is a radical departure from their previous style and Motown's established style by H-D-H (holland-dozier-holland.) Whitefield wanted to take advantage of the new style by Sly and the Family Stone. which is why they broughtr in Melvin Wah-Wah Regin on wah-wah guitar.

  • I was 14 and moving from a soul to a hippie rock phase of my life. To me the Temps were the most progressive of the soul bands and this album proved it. Before Funkadelic blew my mind this album was one of my favorites especially since this was the year I first discovered mind altering substances

  • Jackson5's version IS BETTER... but they are all great MOTOWN groups! i like all of them!

  • melvin franklin is the best bass singer in the whole wide world in my opinion ray davis of p funk is second

  • What are they saying at the end of the song? Between 3:29 and 3:52. Please help.

  • @RLW1967 chick a boom boom

  • Owwwww! Classic dance music before ther was "disco"! LOL Funk alligned with moving grooves.

  • GOOD GOD !!!!!!!!!

  • @hapzap13 : I LOVE THAT PART!!

  • no I didn't read it SO WHAT!! I guess this makes you very smart. Congratulations.

  • magistral!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It don't get no better than this my friends !!!!!! Thanks for the post.

  • a new side to Eddie--great as usual

  • seems to me, you all need to listen to Rare Earths version.......

  • Jacksons is better?????/

Hey these were the big boys... all up in the deep water..... I love the jacksons, but they cant hold a candle to the temps on this song...

  • Wrong LP cover. This came out on the Psycedelic Shack LP in 1970. But A CLASSIC!!! Motown clowned the Best in 1970 to me. Many of the artist were at the top of their game!

  • *clap clap clap* Wow genius, figured that out on your own? I'll take a wild guess: you didn't read the video description, did you?

  • This version is just way funkier than The Jackson 5 version.

  • Love it!

  • this version is rawer than j5's version. its just harder.

  • HOT!....But I like the Jackson 5's version better on the GET IT TOGETHER album

  • @wingchundragon I like both of them. Jackson 5's v. is more disco and hipnotic but both are psychedelic as they should be.

  • Sang my brothas.

  • Simply superb - only the Temps could do a song like this - this is truly classic - the way music ought to be!!

  • There was only one MELVIN FRANKLIN.

  • boom boom boom--ah boom boom boom---im the bass get down now.

  • @01tnql good god you think like me!

  • @wilhoitsux thnx. sorry for late reply. yep, melvins voice is deeper than where the titanic is.

  • @01tnql good god you think like me!

Melvin Franklin is awesome on this track!

  • Blue's voice just amazes me :)

    Temptations forever!<3

  • The recording engineer Russ Terrana did an awesome job on this too.

  • sky is the limit, the greatest album ever, exception to the rule, man, smiling faces, just my imagination, unite the world, love can be anything, keep on trying, and if you can find anything better let me know........lol

  • Corn and Blue, baby.

    Sybenett-

  • Listen to Melvin Franklin deep bass voice playing off Eddie kendricks's falsetto -- excellent!!

  • And then Dennis Edwards bringing in his baritone. ;)

  • You are right!!!! Can't forget Dennis.

  • R.I.P norman whitfield, producer of this and many other hits

  • Most definitely, I still don't think he got the recognition he deserved in my honest opinion. Norman Whitfield was a fantastic talent that will be greatly missed. :-(

  • Norman was to revolutionary for Motown look at all the songs he wrote for the Temptations that Berry Gordy wouldnt let them release as singles but let others release them and they became hits,( War ) for example.

  • Not all the credit should go to whitfield. Don't forget Barrett Strong with his lyrics.

  • whats up essential. you are right about barrett strong, but that SOUND was Norman. he was one of a kind

  • without eddie they no temptations

  • I will never disagree with that. But, always remember, there were five. All five plus Whitfield, plus a few others gave the world something unique. The bar was set so high that the entire world of music went in another direction to avoid comparisons, much like Beethoven's Symphonies. After each, the Temptations and Beethoven, music took another turn rather than try to out-Temp the Temptations and to out-Beethoven Beethoven. Thanks to you all who love this music. Enjoy.
