In Japanese, 'sensei' doesn't only refer to teachers, but can be used for people with professions such as doctors, and in this case, professors. Though since he is in the teaching field, it's also appropriate.

I bought the first game for my 77 year old grandma, who completed everything in the game and really enjoyed it. I haven't played it myself, but they look interesting... It's been 2 years since this one was released in Japan, so I guess it won't be coming to the US? How sad :(

personally i don't think it would work as a live-action film, part of the series charm is the studio gibli style animation. without it, the series would just be a generic detective story.
