18,000 people killed in Mexico in the last 3 years!! Holy shit. 40 billion US dollars PER YEAR we spend to fight this "war" on drugs. This is absolutely unacceptable. Why are politicians letting this happen?? Why do we let them let this happen?? Why do old people laugh when Obama brings up the decriminilization of cannabis?? The last bit of faith I have left in this country is hinging on Dr Ron Paul for President..
The comment below is a complete lie. It's first impossible to overdose on pot. Second it is not chemically addictive. Third it has never been linked to a single case of cancer. This guy must want attention really bad.
I'll be laughing in a year when you have cancer, marijuana smoke is linked to over 20 different types of deadly cancer and smoking weed just ONCE is enough to become addicted. I have known at least 3 friends who have OD'd from a stupid decision like smoking weed so please think twice before you start glorying a deadly habit.
without drugs america would be fucked when u buy your weed or meth or whateva the person who then uses it to buy like a car would use the money then the money would get taxed and without that taxed money people would be screwed but the problem is these stupid anti weed people cant quite get that
"Law enforcement succeeded in taking out the leaders of the Mexican Drug cartels, and instead of ending the problem, that lead to an escalation of the violence because you have within the families fragmentation and fighting to get to the top. And how do they do that? It's not through voting and reconcilliation" - very well said! The policies may not have started the drug industry but they certainly do fuel the criminal element of it!
drug war succeeded? well I suppose in the sense that it eliminated competition against the government, and corporate bank's monopoly of the drug market. Yes, it should certainly be legalized, however, the government will never allow that to happen, since they and their well connected friends reap the largest share of profits from the sales of both prescription, and illegal drugs. Not to mention the money flowing through the justice system, they're buttering their toast on both sides.
California who has more than 4 million marijuana smokers is leading the way by making it legal this year with Assembly Bill 2254 and California Norml estimates it could have a state wide annual economic impact of $12 billion every year plus an additional 50,000 new jobs
I am voting for it, I want to see health care providers for the disabled make more than a minimum wage, public library's open up again and public services open 5 days a week in California
@UnoRaza Indeed! Finally we get to listen to each person, instead of listening to all of them talking on top of each other trying to discredit the one who makes sense!
If you believe all drugs should be legal, study the Opium wars.
Cannabis is a completely different subject and the fact it's illegal is purely economic. It's a frigging miracle plant/drug for crying out loud, but too easy to produce.
Legalization would seiously compromise their bottom line. Pot is a big profit center for the cartels, and its mostly profit. They grow the stuff in Mexico, the coke they just smuggle, lessening their cut.
Seriously, growing crappy pot and taking it over the border is super easy. Production costs gotta be almost nill, people in the sticks don't make jack shit in MX.
America could cut its military spending in half if we shut down our bases overseas and made all of our soldiers become students. Take them and say "go home with a pink slip and severance... or get into some foreign school and we'll pay for you for like 6 years". But America will NEVER do this, nor will we EVER give up our War on Drugs. This country just loves killing things are great personal expense... other countries have these things called "brains", it's astounding really
I wish it weren't so, but there are such powerful forces working against marijuana legalization that it probably isn't going to happen in my lifetime. Politicians are cowards, and people that support the criminalization of marijuana have more money, are bettter organized, and will use fear mongering/lies to support their stance.

Dylan could of at least promoted the tax and regulate initiative in 1 of the 50 states and that's California.
This november 2010, California will Vote up or down The Regulate, Control, and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010 initiative.
A field poll in April 2009 said 56% want it legal.
I believe Oregan and Washington will have similar ballot initiatives.
