I breastfeed my last two and it hurt for the 1st week with all of them and I feed then on demand and I will also watch them up to feed if they went to long. I also plan to breastfeed my 4th baby in july and will know it will hurt the 1st week.
Jess, I was watching through your older videos and watching this made me wonder about how you plan on breastfeeding Kyson & Kaden? I'm not sure if you've already answered this or not. lol :)
Great video! Thanks! I'm about 9 weeks along and you inspired me to breastfeed when lil one comes! Anyone ever tell you that you look like Bryce Dallas Howard?
I am not pregnant yet, but we do plan to have a baby soon. I want to breastfeed. Found this video helpful. Stupid question, did your hospital offer the breastfeeding class? And when did you take it, like when you were pregnant, or when Lilia was here?!
@sydneyelizabeth16 That's not a stupid question at all! :P The class that I took was one that the hospital offered and it was actually a package with the birthing class we took. I believeee it was around $60ish if I remember correctly but it helped so much! And we took it after our birthing class but before she was born :)
I cannot believe that is Lilia. I have been subscribed since before Lilia was born so I've watched it all take place but still, it's like... who's that lil baby Jess is holding?. Lilia is such a big beautiful girl now. So crazy to realize all the film there is of her growing up.
ok i have a question. i never got the hang of it with my first child but i am pregnant again. what do you do if they don't open their mouth when you are trying to feed them? i was told you are supposed to rub your boob to their lips?
@brooklynnA10 Yeah that should definitely do the trick. If it doesn't, then they're probably just not hungry :P And make sure they open very wide before you try to latch them.
gosh this was SO helpful! I am due in April with a little girl. I tried to nurse my son when he was born but I don't know if I was doing it wrong or what so I just stopped. I don't want to do that this time around! Thanks for this video!!!
Question: you're talking about your "milk coming in." Does this mean that the baby isn't actually getting milk until your milk comes in? 2-4 days you said?
Thankyou so much for making this video! So helpful!!!!!! I'm 25 weeks pregnant and adamant I want to breast feed but all of my friends that have had babies have formula fed because they say they 'couldnt produce enough milk'. I've learnt so much from watching this, and I think knowing what I know now, I'm not gonna give up! Wishing you all the best for Lilia and the twins, emily xx
Great video!! I Get so frustrated by hearing "if she's latched right it won't hurt" Psshh my daughter had a fantastic latch and it still hurt for 2 weeks! And God bless Lansinoh nipple cream hahaha!!
this is a great vlog for first time mums who want to breastfeed. the cluster feeding is intense and im sure thats when alot of mums stop becus they think they dont have enough milk. but it helps bring it in. love ur vlogs
Just out of curiosity, how old were you when you gave birth to her? :) By the way, Lilia is the most beautiful baby ever. You picked an amazing name for her too, I love it :D
You are seriously in need of friends. Sitting alone in a room all the time talking to no one at all like they are sitting there...kinda makes you wonder how stable you really are. Social Skills are in need of some tuning.
Im 34 weeks and wanted to try out breast feeding but now I am getting scared because I have no idea how to do it! I dont know any of the positions or how to correctly do them :c I dont want to look silly, lol! any help or advice?
hey jess im 31 weeks pregnant and i just wanted to say that you did a great job documenting your pregnancy =) this video is very good it helps the moms know that you don't have to freak out and that what the nurses in the hospital tell you aren't always true... do what is comfortable for you =) love what you did

Also when did you introduce bottles and a binky to her, going to work when he is about 6wks, gotta go back to work :(, he will be there with me tho since its a daycare lol. but how often do you have to pump? Did you start pumping a few weeks B4 you went to school. ugh i have so many questions for you hope to hear from you?
Hey girl just had my baby boy Feb 4th, you were in you last month of pregnancy when I started watching but I love all of them. Quick question though did you boobs ever get engorged since you only feed on demand, and only one boob at a time. Breast feeding is going great for me he will eat for like 15 on one detaches, I burp him then at least offer the next boob he will eat anywhere from 5 to another 15 on that one. I just want t make sure I can BF for as long as I can.
Thanks so much for talking about cluster feeding! And probably the reason they don't eat much the first day is because the whole birthing thing is REALLY exhausting! I can only imagine since my firstborn is due next month! It could also be their stomach is still full from nutrients from being inside the womb. As for pain, did you mean engorgement or sore from the feeding area? Maybe it's like when your lips get chapped? I don't know. I just like to ponder :-P
When I was in the hospital after I had my daughter, she did that thing where she didn't eat for a long time. And the nurse asked me when she ate last and it had been something like 10 hours and the nurse was like, "Oh my god you haven't fed her since this morning???" She made me feel like a horrible mom!
@emmyemmyoxenfree It reduces the chance of getting several different types of cancers (inclusing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, etc), reduces postpartum bleeding, reduces the chance of osteoperosis, it helps the mother loose the baby weight, and you won't have your period for a longgg time, which is always good ;)
yes i didnt want to breast feed and my daughter is now 18months so it so late but i watched the video anyways just cuz the way u talk i just wanted to listen lol.u should b a teacherlol
Thank you so much for your video, all my friends said you dont have to breastfeed, but me mom did for me and so on and so fourth. Did it feel funny when you first put her on you?
Thank you for taking the time to post this video. I desperate want to breastfeed my baby when it's born! I can't believe how many women don't do it. It's SO much healthier for the baby and I think most women don't because they are uneducated. I've read up on breastfeeding a LOT,the only thing I didn't know about was the cluster feeding, thats so weird! lol Thanks again, you seem like a wonderful mom and looks like Lilia has a great daddy too =]
you are amazing. i have enjoyed watching all of your videos and i have learned so much! i am 18 weeks along. thank you so very much for exposing such a treasured moment of your life. =)
oh and the whole switching sides during a feeding or not. I do the same thing NOW...I feed on one side then switch for antoher feeding instead of unlatching BUT in the beginning I was switching sides during the feedings which come to find out...feeding on both breasts during a feeding does 2 things...1) it makes you REALLY full...you will most likely spray milk, be really sore for a long time, choke your baby. lol, etc. and 2) it also means that your baby isn't going to get as much of the hind
......milk, the fatty stuff. Feeding from one breast at a feeding will make your supply more normal...not so full, less sore breasts, etc. And they are feeding longer on one breasts which means more fatty milk which is good for brain, eye development and just over all growth. Hope this helps. I've been breastfeeding for 7 months and counting.
yeh you don't really make MILK in the beginning days..it's colostrum which is the most important substance for baby. It's important to go ahead and nurse even though babies aren't hungry or asking for it...for multiple reasons...they need that close contact with mom, it's comforting and it will increase your milk so that when she does get hungry on day 3 or so, you will be producing and you will continue to produce.
Respond to this video... so im 9 weeks pregnant and i was thinkin about what i should do and i think that you pretty much helped me make my mind up. so i just wanted to say thanks!
@GabeandJesss i am sorry i have to correct you. your milk will not stop when you stop BF . . I BF my daughter for 9 months. I am 16 months PP and I still have milk
@KIMBURLEExMAHREE everyone is different. Some people that slack off breastfeeding (even if they are still breastfeeding) can experience a dimished supply of milk. Just like how some women's milk comes in within 3 days postpartum and other women's milk comes in at 7 days postpartum.
You are one of the lucky ones with a good supply. Many women have trouble keeping their supply up if they introduce bottles, especially when they go back to work.
@TheLadyShred what is your point? you are giving me useless information that makes no sense.
Okay . . Some women NEVER get a supply at all. If you do your research on breast feeding you will know that you can take pills, eat oatmeal, drink mothers milk tea
I am stating the fact that I stopped BF my daughter at 9 months. I am pregnant again now found out last month so my milk " dried up " up until then i still had milk so if i really wanted to i could have increased my supply again.
@KIMBURLEExMAHREE what is my point? It's so people won't be mislead by your comment.
I'm sure everyone with children has done their research, you don't need to tell me to do so - i already have. :)
Everything in this vid is legit info. You shouldn't have tried to *correct* her in the first place - she was right. If you want to *correct* her experience with yours then make a vid about it yourself.
@KIMBURLEExMAHREE In no way do I mean to "fight". I am supporting jess. Attacking a fellow mom claiming she was wrong is immature. There's no sense in that. she made this vid to help and it has in fact helped countless women. She is an amazing mother with only the best of intentions. Questioning her is perfectly fine, but full out attacking her is a questionable act in itself.
that's my bottom line. I have more respect for her than to fill her vid forum with senseless posts. good luck
@KIMBURLEExMAHREE I won't necessarily stop for everyone but for some it will. It did for my mother and a lot of my friends with children. There's no definite answer either way.
Your milk will not just run out, so don't panic. lol Breastfeeding is designed like supply and demand. Your baby demands it...you make it....it's that simple. So yes, if you slow down on breastfeeding such as start to supplement formula, etc. your supply will decrease. Some people actually supplement formula often in the beginning because of pain, lack of sleep, not thinking to pump during those lost feedings which in turn decreases supply and then milk will dry up.
thank you sooo much jess. i am almost 36 weeks and my little girl should be coming soon hopefully. i missed the chance to take a breast feeding class in my area and i really really want to breastfeed. thank you for shedding light on this topic. you make me feel bettter and more confident about the choice i have made in deciding to breastfeed. thank you. by the way, you look awesome!!! and lilia is beautiful just like her mama! : )

You're just a couple weeks ahead of me (baby was due 4 days ago haha) so it's nice to have someone's videos to watch, y'know to see what to expect and what not.
You can read it in books, and hear from doctors and everything, so the facts aren't new - but hearing it from an actual person is helpful.
I'm sosososososo excited to breastfeed. It's sad how many young moms these days don't do it, I love well educated young moms =)
i had a few questions. first of all shes gorgouse! and you said your milk didnt come in for till she was 2 days old. did you ever leak before she was born?? im only 31 weeks and leak all the time, so i was wondering if it would take a few days for my milk to come in to or no... i donno. help!!!! lol
...do everything in order to help his little girl.
She was 25 weeks when she visited us and she wasn't nervous because she thought she was gonna have a normal pregnancy still!
The thing is... Could you make us this HUGHE favor and mention her (or them) in your next video? She's been watching your videos recently and we think she will really appreciate it and it mean a lot of support to her.
Thanks thanks a lot! Sorry for asking that much!
xoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox Alejo and Julia :)
Hi Jess! We're so so sorry for commenting this much recently but this is a special occasion... One of our american friends, Alexa, just had her baby yesterday. It's a girl named Lexie and Alexa is so scared because she was 30 weeks and 4 days pregnant when she gave birth to his daughter. The baby is in the incubator and Charlie and Alexa, are so worried for her. The doctors say everything is gonna be ok but they're shattered. She wasn't gonna breastfeed but she's pumping because she wants to...
She is a beautiful child. I commend you on your perseverance with breastfeeding. You are are so right that many give up in frustration. My grandson was brestfed until he was three and he has a much stronger immune system than his friends and is very healthy. Good luck with your lovely family.
Just wondering still if u got my package?? From Orangeville ON. I sent it a while ago & Canada post said it should be there. I wanna know if I need 2 call them? If u did, did u like it??? I hope so : S I haven't heard from u, so I thought I'd try again... ~Natasha~\ artist_writer.
i have another question although it aint brestfeeding related lol, just wondering does lilia ever cry lol she seems so calm, n how often does she sleep? i know i shouldnt compare but i just like to know since our babies are so close in age lol
@delwynnenz Haha OH yeah she cries! She actually screams when she gets too unhappy, lol. She probably sleeps for 15 hours or so a day in about 1-3 hour intervals =)
Aww thanks! That's what Alejo says and what his mom never stops telling me! Alejo was breastfed until he was 2 and then he was breastfed too when he was 4 and his brother was born. His mom is soo probreastfeeding!
@aacosta26 I'm SO proud of you for not giving up!! So many women probably would've given up if it took them that long to get it down. Good for you!! I hope breastfeeding continues to work well for us as well! =)
how often do you feed lilia?? I wish I went to a breastfeeding class..........:(
I had that moment when I thought the baby is hungry and i am not producing anything!! then a nurse did our great damage- brought formula to the baby! since then I had to give him formula beside breast milk!! Now I am desperate to get rid of formula!! Can you help???
And may be because I did'nt do the cluster feeding that's why my milk is not coming enough yet!!! I am so frustrated.........:(
@adoinia2004 Seriously?! I can't believe she did that!! That nurse should not have budged in like that... Just stick with it girl, if you keep trying then you'll get it down eventually! I seriously wish you the best of luck! Just make sure you constantly feed your baby with the breast and no more supplementing. Again, good luck! =)
just wondering if you have been on any outings with her either to a store or a family members house...i am due right around thanksgiving and am not sure if im comfortable taking the baby anywhere in the first 2 weeks but i dont wanna sit it out either...sorry if its a dumb question..
@tripper3313 We've really only taken her to Chevy's once, Target once, and two appointments for her. Other than that we just take her to Gabe's house and back. She does great though! =) I felt the SAME way though. But after being in the house for days on end, you'll want to get out. That's not a dumb question at all! =)
fab video!! you are doing an amazing job, I love ur video's. (look out for cluster feeding again when she is around 6 weeks as most babies hit a growth spurt at this time. My son did and it was crazy for a while)
trust me it'll get MUCH easier! the first 2 weeks for me were hell but eventually it wont hurt at all and the baby wont nurse for as long. it takes a lot of dedication and commitment to breast feed so congrats! my son is 4 months now and nursing him is no problem..your boobs will feel normal so enough lol
also howas gabe at being a father? does he help you out alot? or are you doing most of the work?
anyways yeah i guess your next vid should be a Q&A video lol.
plus i'm SO jelous of how easy your loosing your baby weight! i STILL have my babyweight and i wasnt even full term, whats yoru secret lol? (i think its just your metabolism ) but stil!! ba. lol anyways sorry for rambling! i love watching your blogs and i can't BELIEVE how ADORABLE lila is. add mroe vids of her :D
@kaitlyn6415 I get a break when she sleeps or when Gabe is holding her. I get some time to myself but it's not longer than a couple of hours. Gabe is an AMAZING father. He changes diapers, gets up in the middle of the night, and does everything he can to help. Haha, I've actually always had a slow metabolism, I think it's the breastfeeding that's helped me a lot. I hope that helped!! Thanks! =)
@kaitlyn6415 Trust me, you'll know. It feels sore on the sides of your boobs and they'll feel really heavy. The pain is just from the constant sucking, it'll feel really sore and your nipple can get really chapped sometimes. I find time to do my make up but usually I just have my hair down and I eat quickly lol. I don't do that much laundry yet because she has SO many outfits so it's just sitting in a pile, lol. (Next-->)
oh ur body doing great i hope i will lose weight as fast as u after deleviry..by the way u said u dont need to whipe when u breastfeed affter putting the nipples cream. is that ok with all type of creams?
@ReillyAJ Thank you! lol, She spits up sometimes and she burps once in a while but I can't get her to always do it. The pain is mostly soreness but sometimes when she first starts sucking it'll be sort of a stinging pain. And when you're milk comes in you'll know, lol. It just feels EXTREMELY full and sore on the sides, not painful, just different. I hope that helped! =)
You only feed on one side per feeding? My sister let her son eat on the one side until he unlatched himself, and then he burped and then he would eat on the other side. But, whatever works for you!
I think u r a great mom !!!! and ur Lilia its beautiful congratulations!!! and yeah u have some awsome videos too!!! I really like how you help other people and how you explain things that aren't that easy to explain or nonbody has ever really talked about like the way u do, like the post partum video were u explain what to expect after u have the baby. Keep up and I wish u the best luck for this fall semester, u will be a great student !!
your video is VERY informational. THANKS!! :-) i plan on breast feeding and when i get stumped im definetly going to watch your video again for some pointers. and your baby is SOOO CUTE!!
I breastfeed my last two and it hurt for the 1st week with all of them and I feed then on demand and I will also watch them up to feed if they went to long. I also plan to breastfeed my 4th baby in july and will know it will hurt the 1st week.

@DMKmomma15 I know! I completely agree. It's SO healthy, I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to at least try it! Thanks so much! =)

oh and the whole switching sides during a feeding or not. I do the same thing NOW...I feed on one side then switch for antoher feeding instead of unlatching BUT in the beginning I was switching sides during the feedings which come to find out...feeding on both breasts during a feeding does 2 things...1) it makes you REALLY full...you will most likely spray milk, be really sore for a long time, choke your baby. lol, etc. and 2) it also means that your baby isn't going to get as much of the hind
jtamboer 1 year ago
......milk, the fatty stuff. Feeding from one breast at a feeding will make your supply more normal...not so full, less sore breasts, etc. And they are feeding longer on one breasts which means more fatty milk which is good for brain, eye development and just over all growth. Hope this helps. I've been breastfeeding for 7 months and counting.
jtamboer 1 year ago
yeh you don't really make MILK in the beginning days..it's colostrum which is the most important substance for baby. It's important to go ahead and nurse even though babies aren't hungry or asking for it...for multiple reasons...they need that close contact with mom, it's comforting and it will increase your milk so that when she does get hungry on day 3 or so, you will be producing and you will continue to produce.

iv heard that later on ur milk stops coming.. im breast feeding only and i love to but i dont want my milk to stop coming is that true?
sadafasif6708 1 year ago 3
@sadafasif6708 No that's not true. Your milk will only stop if you stop breastfeeding.
GabeandJesss 1 year ago 4
@GabeandJesss i am sorry i have to correct you. your milk will not stop when you stop BF . . I BF my daughter for 9 months. I am 16 months PP and I still have milk
KIMBURLEExMAHREE 1 year ago
@KIMBURLEExMAHREE everyone is different. Some people that slack off breastfeeding (even if they are still breastfeeding) can experience a dimished supply of milk. Just like how some women's milk comes in within 3 days postpartum and other women's milk comes in at 7 days postpartum.
You are one of the lucky ones with a good supply. Many women have trouble keeping their supply up if they introduce bottles, especially when they go back to work.
It's a lot of work in general!
TheLadyShred 1 year ago
@TheLadyShred what is your point? you are giving me useless information that makes no sense.
Okay . . Some women NEVER get a supply at all. If you do your research on breast feeding you will know that you can take pills, eat oatmeal, drink mothers milk tea
I am stating the fact that I stopped BF my daughter at 9 months. I am pregnant again now found out last month so my milk " dried up " up until then i still had milk so if i really wanted to i could have increased my supply again.
KIMBURLEExMAHREE 1 year ago
@KIMBURLEExMAHREE what is my point? It's so people won't be mislead by your comment.
I'm sure everyone with children has done their research, you don't need to tell me to do so - i already have. :)
Everything in this vid is legit info. You shouldn't have tried to *correct* her in the first place - she was right. If you want to *correct* her experience with yours then make a vid about it yourself.
TheLadyShred 1 year ago
@TheLadyShred No. Her info was completely wrong.
But i'm not going to sit here and fight with some random woman on YOUTUBE.
Her info was WRONG. I am not going to sit here and say " oh yea she's right " when no she is wrong.
And i will make my own videos. When baby #2 is born. With the right info.
Kellymom.com . . Do your research
KIMBURLEExMAHREE 1 year ago
@KIMBURLEExMAHREE In no way do I mean to "fight". I am supporting jess. Attacking a fellow mom claiming she was wrong is immature. There's no sense in that. she made this vid to help and it has in fact helped countless women. She is an amazing mother with only the best of intentions. Questioning her is perfectly fine, but full out attacking her is a questionable act in itself.
that's my bottom line. I have more respect for her than to fill her vid forum with senseless posts. good luck
TheLadyShred 1 year ago
@KIMBURLEExMAHREE I won't necessarily stop for everyone but for some it will. It did for my mother and a lot of my friends with children. There's no definite answer either way.

@sadafasif6708
Your milk will not just run out, so don't panic. lol Breastfeeding is designed like supply and demand. Your baby demands it...you make it....it's that simple. So yes, if you slow down on breastfeeding such as start to supplement formula, etc. your supply will decrease. Some people actually supplement formula often in the beginning because of pain, lack of sleep, not thinking to pump during those lost feedings which in turn decreases supply and then milk will dry up.
jtamboer 1 year ago
@JensPregnancy I have no idea, lol. I know it's enough if you continually pump though. That's SUCH an amazing idea =)

She wasn't gonna breastfeed but she's pumping because she wants to...

how often do you feed lilia?? I wish I went to a breastfeeding class..........:(
I had that moment when I thought the baby is hungry and i am not producing anything!! then a nurse did our great damage- brought formula to the baby! since then I had to give him formula beside breast milk!! Now I am desperate to get rid of formula!! Can you help???
And may be because I did'nt do the cluster feeding that's why my milk is not coming enough yet!!! I am so frustrated.........:(
adoinia2004 1 year ago
@adoinia2004 Seriously?! I can't believe she did that!! That nurse should not have budged in like that... Just stick with it girl, if you keep trying then you'll get it down eventually! I seriously wish you the best of luck! Just make sure you constantly feed your baby with the breast and no more supplementing. Again, good luck! =)

Thanks! =)

wow i didnt realise that the feeding time was soo long!
i have a few questions !:
how do you know your milk has "came in" like..how do you know you have milk?
why does it hurt..they dont have teeth so what about it, what part hurts?
can you feel them suckking? is it a weird feeling..?
do you have time everyday to like get up do your hair and makeup have meals?
how much laundry do you have to do now?
do you litterally have to spend 24/7 with her doing things with her or do you ever get a
kaitlyn6415 1 year ago
@kaitlyn6415 Trust me, you'll know. It feels sore on the sides of your boobs and they'll feel really heavy. The pain is just from the constant sucking, it'll feel really sore and your nipple can get really chapped sometimes. I find time to do my make up but usually I just have my hair down and I eat quickly lol. I don't do that much laundry yet because she has SO many outfits so it's just sitting in a pile, lol. =)
