  • She sings Tsigan (Gipsy) song, 'Hey, yamshik, gonika k Yaru'. Yar is a name of the owner of a restaurant that had been on Myasnitskaya street in Moscow.

  • This is a song that Jackie Evancho would do well with.

  • BTW, according to wiki she's still alive

  • Yes, truly Russian style singing (of that time of course).

    Very good!

  • What a lovely performance. Thank you. Maya

  • Such a wonderfull song, even though i dont speak russian i understand the tune, she sang with such feeling and emotion, artists of today could never compete with this, no matter how good there voices. songs of this period and songs and artists of the 40s and so son sang with feeling, those days you had to have a voice, not like now, everything is handed on a silver plate to upcoming artists today you dont have to work hard to get a rec cont, it is given to you

  • i have no idea what shes saying but, i'm sold! SO BEAUTIFUL!! <33

  • WOW! I had forgotten what a terrific singer Deanna was!

  • they don't make them like that any more! Beautiful!!!!

  • whats the name of this song? its very beautiful. i would like to see what the words r in english.

  • There are no great singers anymore

  • It's amazing, but though she sings with a pretty strong accent, you can clearly understand every word if you know Russian. But what is even more important is that she sings it with such a true Russian feeling like the best Russian singers of the same era. I Love You Deanna!

  • Super!

  • beautiful voice, beatiful signing, it's russian gypsy romance

  • Darling Deanna, What a delight for eye and ear. How I wish TCM would feature HIS BUTLER'S SISTER! Thanks for posting this delightful excerpt!

  • What is the meaning of this film?

  • @12345678927269 do u mean the plot or the films point of eistence cause i feel the second one to be a bit harsh haha

  • @ClassicMovieClub i MEANT TO VOTE UP

  • old russian romances

  • I wish I could undestang all the russian comments.

What a beautiful talent. She had it all!

  • The songs are "hey, coachman drive to

    the ravine

    Garden wicket

Two guitars or dve gitari I wish i knew the Russian for the other two and the composers because i would like to learn them too

  • Anyone know the names of these songs?? I've always wanted to learn them. I have all her movies and this is my favorite medley. Opera's loss was our gain.

    Operafilli

  • @Operafilli

Largo Al Factotum from The Barber of Seville, was written to be sung by a male.

Watch and listen to Deanna sing it!

  • @TOMSLASSIE ....

Mustache a nice touch. Have known Barbiere backwards and forward for 40+ years...I am an opera fanatic. Rosina's aria Una Voce Poco Fa would have been terrific. And note Clavelitos, a real tongue twister, how she did it so fast!!

  • Stunning! Bravo! TY.

A Vam znakomy drugie? Schastlvyj tjeovek

  • Gorgeous!!! In every way indeed!!! Best performance of these songs, so nuanced!!!

  • She should very well be the idol of every aspiring singer. I wish I had such a beautiful voice.

    Such an astoundingly lovely person.

  • Gorgeous!!! In every way.

  • A Vy, ebena vsosh´, veli

  • That's what I was wondering! I never had the chance to sing russian. I sang French, English, Italian, Latin, Greek, German, and I almost did sing Russian for one recital once. I LOVE Russian folk music, and though her diction might not be good, God does her voice sound incredible in that song!!!

  • Cute accent.

  • I would have loved to see Deanna Durbin in a recital. I'd love to see the songs she would choose and have her talk her way through the recital, the way Dawn Upshaw does. And meet her backstage (I have met Dawn Upshaw backstage on 6 different occasions - what a gracious, unaffected diva) chat a few seconds with her, have her sign a CD and have a picture of me with her, as I have of Dawn Upshaw. I just love Deanna Durbin and wish she had continued her career longer.

  • Very beautiful, quite amazing!!

  • superb

  • Where is she. She is wonderful. I love hearing her sing.

  • Great, thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i have always loved my great-great aunt deanna and i am pleased to hear everyone thinks well of her too.I am trying my best to follow in her footsteps.

  • @gravitygirl911 are you really her great great niece ???

  • @fitz8098 haha yepp ^^ she married into my family and i grew up listening to stories about her, but i've never actually gotten the chance to meet her.

  • I like her hair and she's stunningly beautiful.

  • and durbes=durpes comes from the name for peats(=durpes), that is from a peaty place

  • family name stems from Lithuanian name...in 14th century Lithuanian beated Crusaders in Durbes batle...and -inis is Lithuanian sufix for persons' names...and by adapting more English version of the name Lithuanian names loose endings in this case -is, so Durbinis became Durbin

  • she cannot be beaten...she's an angel...she's perfect...

  • The songs used for this marvellous Russian medley are 3 popular songs(in the direct sequence order):

    (1) Эй, ямщик, гони-ка к яру (Hey, Coachman, Drive to the Ravine)- this one is considered to be a gipsy song;

    (2) Калитка (Garden Wicket) - this one is not quite a folk song, it's kind of romance;

    (3) Две гитары (Two Guitars)- yet another gipsy song well assimilated into the Russian folk. Enjoy! :-)

  • Thank-you so much for this excellent information!!!

  • WoW,Great,great knowledge!!!

  • If this is a medley what is the other song called?

  • What a voice. She has lightness and depth, emotions and so much maturity for her age.

    Viva youtube!

  • Eh, raz, da eshio raz, da eshio mnogo, mnogo raz! She is beautiful

  • Guys, don't bother waiting for the TV stations to show Deanna's excellent movies. I bought all 21 of her movies on the Internet and play them over and over again!

  • WOW! Thanks so much, migmit, for sharing this terrific rendition of TWO GUITARS by Deanna. I saw HIS BUTLER'S SISTER on tv over 30 years ago and was so impressed by her singing of this well known Russian Gypsy song. How I wish Turner Classic Movies would show this film..and some of the other DD classics that haven't been on tv in years. What a wonderful talent she was!

  • A dream -visually and vocally!

  • She is a beautiful soul and has the most angelic voice. Just look how the man were enarmored with her at the table. Just like an angel.

  • Or is it a medley?

  • It is.

  • Does anyone know the name of this song?

  • Hello,

The song Deanna sings so magnificently in HIS BUTLER'S SISTER is the Russian Gypsy song 'TWO GUITARS'. She is so incredible in this excerpt!

  • BRAVA!!! Check out the rest of this scene in the Russian cafe and look closely at Deanna's left hand as she is dancing with Franchot Tone. She refused to take off her wedding ring so it was covered with tape.

  • I think this is one of the greates cinema performances ever!

  • This has to be one of her finest screen moments!

  • This stands as one of finest screen moments!

  • I simply cannot stop listening to this "haunting piece" of lovely music.

  • This is simply genious! I haven´t heard so lovely singing the last twenty years!

  • I must say...This deserves five stars!!

    Absolutely breath-taking!

  • Deanna is just amazing. She can sing anything!!!

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my new clip of 1930's cigarette cards of Deanna Durbin, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Gary Cooper, Fred Astaire, Errol Flyn, Vivien Leigh, George Formby and Gracie Fields.

  • I would say that she was and always remains the greatest singer in the history of cinema.

  • I TOO AM A BIG FAN OF DEANNA. i have this delightful film but it's great having it on youtube.

  • Deanna at her best. Powerful and crystal clear tone that exudes emotion. When she drops the volume her projection remain perfection. I really love this performance.

  • Thanks for posting this. Deanna is the best! She has enjoyed an iconic status in Russia practically from the time her films were first shown there in the late 1930s/early 1940s. I read that HIS BUTLER'S SISTER is shown annually on Russian television much as THE WIZARD OF OZ was here for many years. It also was selected by the American Occupational Forces as the first American film to be shown in Japan following Japan's surrender in World War II.
