  • I love love LOVE Steph, but her Nellie seems too...harsh. I prefer Kelli O' Hara's softer, gentler version.

  • She's a fantastic singer and I'm glad I saw the belted version of this song, but I prefer the more classical version of the movie. I do love the last note, though.

  • WHAT KEY IS THIS IS? :) PLEASEE COULD ANYONE TELL ME? XX

  • Belting every note is the way this song should be sung! She does a fantastic job!

  • Wasn't she in 'Wicked'? Or am I thinking of another Stephanie? Anyway she's great

  • @Sarcasmize Yup. She was an Elphaba. :)

  • such a wrong role for her. she's practically belting every note

  • Wow, I never knew she was in South Pacific! I only know her as Elphaba...

  • when did she play Nellie Forbush? wow i didn't know that! *embarrassed*

  • ah she doesn't use enough expression! its buggin me, her arms are pinned down. but beautiful voice

  • She lost a lot of weight for this role.

  • She is just really young. The very beginning of her career at the Cabrillo Musical Theatre/San Gabriel CLO.

  • My 9th grade choir sang a South Pacific medly, but I've never had any desire to see the film. This makes me want to see it. SJB is a charmer, plain and simple. She can sing a song I'm not crazy about and make me like it. The only other person I've encountered who can do that is Julie Andrews.

  • I love Stephanie J Block! Especially in Pirate Queen. haha :-)

  • You're right... I want to like her, but...

  • she is so much better than anyone on itunes

  • i am singing this on sat. at a solo compotitipon!!!

  • what the hell's with the women goen "hello" ??

  • I think she's great but I much prefer Kelli O'Hara's voice for this role

  • What a treat! I've not seen a Steph performance before Boy From Oz. This is wonderful, thanks so mcuh for sharing!

  • you don't happen to have the entire video do you?

  • LUV this woman! she always rocks it out!

  • Marvelous!!! :D

  • SJB is phenomenal

although her vowels sometimes eat themselves

especially "Sky" in the first line

  • Beautiful voice!

Does anyone know where this was performed and when?

  • Stephanie starred in this production in 1997 at the Carbillo Music Theatre in Thousand Oaks, California, before she made her Broadway debut.

  • Absolutely lovely! Stephanie never fails. She's my favorite leading lady!

  • will some one please send me a msg giving me the theme of this play i think we are doing it next spring and my teacher was hinting at me to look at this song im trying to research the song and if any one has ever played her character can you tell me how you developed your character! thnx

  • Rent the movie South Pacific

  • i did i bought it lol

  • this is one of my voice songs. my name is paige and im a singer. im trying to get noticed so please help me. look for my video's and i might be on america's got talent soon.

  • Ack, THANK YOU! Stephanie is incredible.

  • does anybody know how old she was in this?

  • Stephanie was about 25 when she played in this production of South Pacific in 1997. Anest was even younger even though his character is supposed to be much older than Nellie Forbush. Both Stephanie & Anest got rave reviews for their performances.

  • She's awesome! One of the best on Broadway!

She must have just been starting out in this video.

    What a treasure.

    Thanks!

  • AMAZING! i love her...and it's nice to not see her in green makeup for once ;) do you know the date or year of this?

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for sharing this!!! Awesome!

(She looks very different, but the second she opens her mouth--yep, that's our girl!)
