No It's not "Tell Me" its "Ta'me!" as in "Too Me", from sailors pulling ropes to hoist the Rigging on ships! They Pulled the Rope towards themselves or "Ta'me!"
Yep Thats EXACTLY how they sounded when my father and I got the rare chance to sing and drink with them when they came to Irish Fest back in the 90's.
UP The Long Ladder and Down the Short Rope, To HELL With King Billy and God Bless the Pope, If that dosn't do I'll Tear him in Two and send him to HELL With his Red White and Blue!
@thatsdyn He's singing "to me". This was the sort of song sailors would sing while hauling on lines to raise sails or the anchor. The "to me" part was their cue to haul.
@MacBloscaidh As a life long fan "The Clancy's" ... that's just my take on same and i do respect your opinion, anyhow... ..they are now having those mighty sessions up above ...I think "The Parting Glass" is the song that should be sung at every wake... God rest them all we shall never see their like's again ....
I was lucky enough to see Tommy Makem shortly before he passed away playing with one of his sons. His voice was as rich and resonant as it was in the 70's and his stories- incredible! I was raised on this original line up, and, Man, there's nothing like 'em.
It's true he never aged at all till the day he died, fair play to him it wasn't from mindin himself!!! They had a great time. I always wonder did the south park boyos get Timmy from Tommy?? lol
Can't quite understand the comments below about Tom Clancy. Lacks passion? Doesn't want to be there? Tom C's voice was the foundation of this group's belting, blasting style on about half their songs. Paddy was straight up strong; Liam and Tommy M. had lyrically fine voices - but Tom C. was the rock at the bottom. He was also by far the most successful actor (all 4 tried), appearing in dozens of productions and TV shows in its Golden Age.
Comp, I think they were talking about Tommy Makem (who's not even wearing his obligatory sweater), not Clancy. Tom Clancy always seemed to be the most passionate and boisterous of the group.
I meant to reply, rmm - of course you're right. Tommy M. seemed more comfortable by this time in his career as a solo - a bit of strain shows even in his duo with Liam at times. Note though that the sweater ("jumpers," as they called them) is on the stage near Tommy. Those things are warm in Arctic conditions - under TV or stage lights, almost unbearable, I'd think. I've had one I bought in Connemara 25 years ago and have worn it comfortably once here in So. California!

I will explain why Liam Clancy has not aged in forty years.
He does what he loves. He cannot do otherwise. And in this way, he is immortal.
