  • 4:14 - the water's boiling! :D Amazing Pickett - wish i saw that in person! wow!!

  • holy shit dude, i just got back from seeing him preform in Broken Arrow and he hit higher notes than a piccolo ON A TENOR SAX!!!

  • L.P. Lenny Picket!!

  • Someone in here mentioned the look on Doc's face. Did you see the look on Tom Politzer's face. He was shaking his head. That fact is the only other Tenor Sax player that TOP had that had a pretty good altissimo was Norbert Stachel and even he was limited to what he could do compared to Lenny. Lenny is in a class all his own. He does things on a sax that no human should be able to do. Unbelievable!!! I just wish I was there to see it in person. Lenny owns Knock Yourself Out.

  • Knock your self out

  • 2:03. the power of the saxophone altissimo had been too great for any mortal to use to its fullest. Then Lenny Pickett was born.

  • @tkdkid100 Listen to some Earl Bostic.

  • @vpsaxman earl bostic is THE man. lol is it me or can you hear some bostic in pickett's playing...?

  • I like to think I am good at what I do. And so, it is doubly humiliating to be reminded of just how incompetent and uncreative you are at what you do for a living while so thoroughly enjoying the agent of your humiliation.

Ali, Gretsky, Frank Lloyd Wright, DaVinci, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Sinatra, the list of the truly GREAT could go on and on. They all possessed a talent/gift which at the end of the day escapes description. I must add Lenny Pickett to that list.

  • I guess the one million hours LP practiced payed off. You guys see the look on Docs face during that amazing rant? It's like "what the fuck?"

  • The Tightest Horn Band Ever...!!

Harmonically,Melodically,Technically........If anybody out there would like to add to these words we may be able to come up with one word that describes this monstrous Band.

  • it's a shame this is posted sideways...

  • @wakoflacko

Just listen to it sideways.....sounds great too... ;p)

  • dg and rocco plus the horns are setting up a fat groove for him. great solo, its lp, its lenny pickett!! lol

  • WOW!

  • Did someone succeed to count how many darm octaves he takes out of his horn??

  • Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!

  • I have the live in Oakland recording (on cassette tape!) from the late 60's of the band doing this tune and LP ripping a solo...his circular breathing solo on one note is still a classic I have used in my teaching many times over...not always how many notes you play...it's always HOW you play them! LP is a genious!

  • @mbandguy

plus his effortless altissimo range and his control of it. one of the greatest, if not the greatest experimental jazz saxophonist. :)

  • LP = the man

  • dam hes the shit...hes the reason why i still play

  • @mk2mikedc2

LOL he's the reason for me not playing !!!!!! How can we as mere mortals top this!!!???

  • holy crap

  • Three words to describe this....Dy No Mite

    Absolutely unbelievable!!!

  • NOT OF THIS WORLD

  • i think this was on his birthday.

  • It was his 54th bday.

  • Ha Ha, it happens to the best to us.

    Fab solo.

spicginny is right. Let your ears take over!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the post

  • i love LP...he's so epic

  • Doesn't matter what the video shows! I was there that night and it was amazing. Close your eyes and let your ears take over!

  • sorry about that I was holding the camera sideways, three minutes through i realized it and righted the camera - my bad - still an awesome solo

  • the video is upside down

  • We just got the camera, and my friend who was holding it was just TOO excited to see Lenny Pickett to even pay attention to what was going on.
